Several high end Android phones use LCD displays too, so your anti-Apple whine is a bit misguided (oh no, everything positive about Apple is a conspiracy!). Always important to point that out.

Also, I can definitely see the negative effects of the Note 3's pentile screen when looking through Oculus Rift DK2's lenses... Thin red text is pretty bad because of it ;) (before you flame, that was a joke.. mostly)

For you tech guys here is the actual color accuracy of the note 4 blowing apples best "LCD" screen away

Better blacks
Better colors
Uses 14% less power then note 3 display
No uniformity issues
Faster response latency then LCD
Doesn't take a power hit from more pixels

Samoled>all other displays period!

Such a stretched misleading thread title

BUT, those thick plastic antenna bands at the back look really ugly.

Agreed, but thankfully they put it on the side I don't look at. ;)

Mine was for many years, when I got up in my 40's it started deteriorating.

Ha ha...me too. Mine has been better than 20/20 my whole life, but at 45, I finally noticed in the last six months it's starting to deteriorate. I'll have to get tested to see where I'm at.

I know right! The title should have made it clear that its the best LCD display on a smartphone ever...

Oh wait it did...what are you so upset about?

I used to be on the S rotation too. My first iPhone was the 3GS. On the 5S, I dropped the contract and signed up for AT&T Next, since they started offering a $25 discount and waived the activation fee. I figure it's almost a wash dollar-wise (I'm not gonna mess with a time value of money calculation), and this way I get a new phone every year. :)

I did run into a snag this year. I would have had to trade in my 5S in order to preorder the 6 Plus. Well, obviously I need my phone for the next month and a half (ETA November), so I ended up paying off the remaining balance on my 5S in order to preorder the 6 Plus. I will have to use one of those third party sites like Gazelle to trade in my 5S for cash once I receive my new 6 Plus (I say third party because it's not through AT&T). That is what I used to do to get the money for my new contract phones, so it's nothing new to me. It's just not as smooth a process as I would have liked it to be. The trade-in values currently are higher than the pay-off balance was, so as long as it stays that way or is at least equal, I don't mind.

Sounds like a good system. I don't think we have anything like the PLUS system in Canada. I just do it the old fashion way and throw $50 in an envelope every two weeks. Should have $1300 by the next keynote which would be a 128GB 6S+ in Space Grey (or Black fingers crossed ;) ) and a case.

Damn phones.

D.

Loving my 6 Plus as well. For the "is it too big?" crowd...after 4 days using it you get used to the size and wonder how you ever lived with your 5 or 5s less than a week ago.

That said, the 6 is pretty awesome too and a great compromise between the 5/5s and 6 Plus. People have wanted screen size options on the iPhone for years. Now we have it and it's great.

I came from the 4s as was convinced I would get the 4.7" screen. Ended up with the plus despite declaring it to be way too big. I did it mainly for the OIS, but I am so glad I did. There will be times I wished my phone was smaller, but not nearly as many as the times I used to wish my screen was bigger.

No one ever used display tech to stretch the truth and make a phone look like the best display over all.

The funny part is last night my co worker with a new iPhone 6 texted me saying the iPhone had the best display because we were comparing them at work and we all agreed that the gs5 was a better picture over his iPhone 6

See how this thread title is misleading he even called me saying the iPhone has the best display ever tested.

The second he found the gizmodo review spinning and wording the displaymate review he called me and was gloating about how apple is the best and was in fanboy heaven with his iPhone 6 display

I got my 6 on launch day. loving it…
but from reading all the comments about 720 is right 1080 is right for plus, etc…

I wonder what people is gonna say when Apple puts 1080p on next iPhone 7 and 2k or even 4k on 7 plus…

I never missed a version of iPhone from the first iPhone launch, and own many other apple products… but Its just so funny that these apple fanboyz making excuses for stuff they don't know about.. XD

I think it was the iPhone 4 AD that I made comment about years ago… AD was about iPhone being perfect size for your hand… and I asked… what are they gonna say when the iPhone gets bigger?? your hands grew, so iPhone is bigger for you? I still got the 4 on launch day, but yeah...

I stuck with my 4s until they came out with a proper screen size. I cursed Apple for giving such a great phone and not enough screen to properly enjoy it. I agree with a lot of Apple decisions, but holding to the 3.5 = perfect size thing then coming out with a longer, but same width screen pissed me off.

Your friend should read the title closely. It clearly says best lcd display. Just because he didn't understand the title doesn't mean it's misleading.

Hell, the article itself mentions the n4 being best overall

Title should not say best display period.the best display is the gs5 and note 4.

99% of the general public have no idea of the screen technology in the galaxy phones and will read this and think apple has done it again and is the best.

Even in the display mate review they burry the gs5 and note being the best deep down at the end of the review

Sorry I cant keep arguing this. The title and article are blatantly clear.

OK bud what ever u say

This is the first time sub categories has been used and its 100% done to make the iPhone screen look better then it is.

What's next...best pentile and then best diamond matrix displays?

Or best IPS vs led

When the general public read headlines like this they will think the iPhone is the best and its why I said its misleading. The Samsung's are the best

Funny part is I have a galaxy s5 and without googling it I don't know wtf amoled stands for and don't really know the difference between that and LCD and IPS tech

But...But....the iPhone 6+ ONLY has a 1080P screen resolution...that's so two years ago.

Human Eye cannot see higher than 1080P resolution Until you get to 6" So if you bought a phone with higher than 1080p resolution on a screen smaller than 6" I'm afraid you have been fizzled fazzled sir.

What? This is absolutely not the first time screen technologies have been compared and subcategories used. Not from gizmodo, and not from any other source. They always compare amoled vs lcd, and they have said amoled is better plenty of times. Stop trying to invent conspiracy theories. The headline clearly says LCD, and the article clearly says it's not better than the Note 4.

I cannot explain how you were misled. This will be my last post about this. I mean it this time :)

You know what funny the other kid with the 6 plus at work just texted another coworker with a note 3 gloating about how the iPhone is the best screen lmfao

Title is misleading just admit it and 2 people at my work are already using it to show off there iphones to us at work.I can't wait to have a field day with them lol

I'm not mislead the general public are and I have 2 examples from iPhone owners to prove it.

I bet the people that were camping in line for 2 weeks busted a 10 min nut when they saw the gizmodo link saying the iPhone is the best screen u can buy

You just can't stand the fact that better screens than the iPhone exist.... There are no negatives on the note 4 screen

You are wrong a ophthalmologist stated in a previous thread , people with over 20/20 vision with the help of contacts or glasses can see up to 800 ppi.... And u can definitely notice the difference between a 300 ppi phone and a 500 ppi phone

Just curious - what are the benchmarks in this graph. Is it measuring to sRGB, AdobeRGB, etc?

Want to understand fully. I have no doubt (from what I've read) the Note 4 display is amazing. I also know from experience the 6 and 6+ displays are amazing as well. Which is better is of little consequence - I'd just like to understand what we are benchmarking the two displays by.

"Color accuracy" has various meanings depending on which standard you think is most accurate.

Hey - just because you have friends who are idiots doesn't mean this article is misleading.

The question is "does this article clearly state the iPhone has the best LCD displays and does it clearly state the Note 4 has been judged the best overall".

The answer to both is unequivocally 'yes'. How people choose to interpret and ignore is not the article's or author's fault. Some people just choose ignorance.

I waited in line, saw the article you mention (and this one here) and my "nut" remains "unbusted".

Going from memory that was done on sRGB 709 standard witch is what most movie content goes by

DisplayMate, which routinely performs thorough testing of display quality on a variety of electronics, has released its iPhone 6 Display Technology Shoot-Out, taking a look at the performance of Apple's latest handsets using new "Retina HD" technology. While DisplayMate's Ray Soneira has not shied away from criticizing Apple's displays on some recent devices, he found the iPhone 6 Plus to have the "best performing Smartphone LCD display that we have ever tested" while the iPhone 6 also scored well in testing.

While the "best ever" designation includes the caveat of applying to LED displays and DisplayMate continues to rate the OLED display from the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as the best overall smartphone display, the gains seen in the iPhone 6 and particularly the iPhone 6 Plus are impressive. In particular, the iPhone 6 Plus display sets new records among LCD displays for peak brightness, low reflectance, and several measures of contrast and accuracy.

DisplayMate finds the iPhone 6 display to have many of the same strong areas of performance as in the iPhone 6 Plus, but the lower resolution and pixel density hold the smaller model back somewhat.DisplayMate's report includes a variety of charts and tables comparing the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to the iPhone 5/5s that are worth a look, as well as some discussion of how LCDs such as those found in the latest iPhones compares with OLEDs favored by Samsung.

But DisplayMate never tested the LG G3.
So interestingly enough, it may be the best they have tested, but they have not tested them all.

Anyone with a good eye can tell you that the LG G3 display has issues.....when it comes to brightness and contrast that display is a mess......thats why DisplayMate didn't even bother to test it.

I love this argument. People fail to understand that there is more to being good that a dick measuring contest over numbers. A 5MP DSLR will take vastly better pictures than a 18MP point and shoot.
And 1GB is better than 3GB!

Lol just another Sammy Boi trolling and upset seeing this on a iPhone blog site. No wonder.

G3 display is defitnetly not the best, worse viewing angles, colors seeem a little washed out , doesnt seem like full sRGB support, and the brightness doesnt go as high as the 6/6 plus

OMG pentile is not a problem at all anymore. That was two years ago and pentile is far superior to Apples technology at this point of time. IPhone does not have the best screen and its obvious you are trying to insult Samsung. At least we have the chance to experience VR and it will only improve throughout time. There is no longer a issue whatsoever with pentile technology since the Note 3.....

----------

Also LCD gets dimmer overtime, there is no burn in in the Note 3's screen.......dont be surprised if your iphone 6's screen has those bright white heat spots within the next several months since its IPS LCD and gets hot alot....while your phone is bending slowly in your pocket....

----------

Sorry but samsungs AMOLED technology significantly uses less power than LED/IPS LCD technology....

----------

Lol that was said about the Ipad 4th generation a couple years ago....the irony

dude get the hell out of here with that ********, OLED's suffer terrible burn in and 6 months in you see a permenant status bar burned in on any Galaxy device with the black notification bar where it shows the battery and all that, I prefer LCD, goes much brighter then OLED panels can and doesnt suffer from burn in issues like OLED's do. just go to a verizon store , youll see so much burn in issues on all of them (yes i understand there on all day but ) this also occurs from day to day use slowly over time, its happened on every single S4 I have had and even the S5

----------

It was solved with the 1080p resolution. I have to backtrack a bit on the Galaxy Note 2, I incorrectly remembered it was pentile but actually that was the S3 I was thinking of and the reason for buying the Galaxy Note 2 was because it had an RGB arrangement.

Again 1080p resolution solved this. I'm not sure if you've seen the Note 3 but the screen is stunning and I'm sure the Galaxy Note 4 screen will be even better, empirically proven of course

red/pink pixels on a Galaxy s4/s5/note 3 screen shows pixelation, just go to a website with a dark background that has red/pink text, you can easily see pixelation of these colors due to it being Pentile, if a screen is pentile, its reported PPI is not its true PPI due to Pentile
