Good job!

BAM!!!! iPhone 6 Plus is by far the best handset in the world. I flipping' love this phone. So glad I went for the big boy. It is gorgeous and feels awesome in hand. Everything runs so smooth and snappy. I made my Samsung S5 into a surveillance video cam mounted on a shelf.

This is funny! Good job!

To try and bridge the gap here... They're changing the way they market these things as they go. So, really... nobody has been wrong.

640x480 -- SDTV, later shown as 480i, counting the vertical
1280x720 -- marketed as 720p, counting the vertical
1920x1080 -- marketed as 1080i or 1080p, counting the vertical

Then we now get:

3840x2160 -- marketed as 4k, counting the horizontal suddenly.
7680x4320 -- this is what 8k will be, counting the horizontal as well.

So if we count the horizontal... 1080p suddenly becomes 2k.

If we use LG's 2k display, actually a Quad HD display, the resolution is 2560x1440. Also called 1440p. It's a computer monitor resolution.

This interesting, is it really this simple?

I think you are confusing ppi with resolution. What the naked eye sees as better on the new screens hardly has anything to do with ppi IMO. Many upgrades in other areas Of the display.

Difference between someone that's knows his stuff and someone that's doesn't. They mostly have androids too :)

Those numbers are so wrong for the 6+...

the display test is SO biased.

The 6+ gets way brighter then they tested at.

Nothing is wrong, Apple themselves say typical brightness of about 500 cd/m2. Read before you comment.

Even displaymate mentions Note 4 screen is better.

We recently gave the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 our overall Best Smartphone Display award, and for the time being that continues for all of the reasons originally mentioned there. In particular, for implementing Color Management to provide multiple Color Gamuts, and then using the Color Management to provide the Highest Absolute Color Accuracy for Standard (sRGB/Rec.709) consumer content of any Smartphone or Tablet display that we have ever measured

He's only saying that the OLED Samsung screen is rated a little higher. No big deal. Credit where it's due man.

I spent an hour or so at the Apple store today to take care of my wife's (broken screen - handled for $109 with a brand new phone) iPhone 6, replace an Airport Extreme that had a sticky reset button (given a brand new one under the Applecare I keep on my Macbook Pro), and battery problems on her old iPhone 5 (given a brand new phone even though it's out of warranty). I compared the two new models side by side and honestly, they are both incredible, beautiful devices. Their respective screens are as good as anything that I've seen. Both Android and Apple. Better, actually. I'm just not a fan of the over saturated OLED screens personally. Screens are getting sooooo nice! :)

You know, Apple really knows how to knock it out of the park when the want to. And this is the best phone they have made to date IMO. And as you might have noticed in my Apple store experience today - this includes the customer service department. I'm a happy customer and proud to say it. Feeling proud of Apple today actually.

This has been my experience with Apple since 2003!

I feel they have the best customer service of any company I have ever dealt with! Of course their products, have always been the best for me as well!:apple::cool:

Haters gonna hate.

Many-a-fanboy here seem to forget that Samsung MAKES TVs, so it makes sense that they would likely have the displays.

I think Apple chose NOT to use AMOLED right now because Samsung pretty much owns the supply of them currently and if supply is constrained, it's going to go to Samsung.

Apple still makes excellent displays where they can. Rember that they are a business there to make money. Just because they don't give you the absolute best display out there, doesn't mean they don't forget. Don't forget that since Apple has a tighter hold on content distribution, you can bet once 4k shows up on an Apple device it's going to be awesome and have plenty of content.

Some people seriously need to grow up. Get what YOU like.

I love this argument. People fail to understand that there is more to being good that a dick measuring contest over numbers. A 5MP DSLR will take vastly better pictures than a 18MP point and shoot.

Not always. If the dslr is 5mp because it's a decade old, the point and shoot will out do it in most situations (assuming it's new let's say from the same maker). But I take your point :)

Wot?
Resolution has nothing to do with pixel count?
Seriously you people are getting blinded by the marketing.

From the article you mentioned:

The term "display resolution" is usually used to mean pixel dimensions, the number of pixels in each dimension (e.g. 1920 × 1080), which does not tell anything about the pixel density of the display on which the image is actually formed: broadcast television resolution properly refers to the pixel density, the number of pixels per unit distance or area, not total number of pixels. In digital measurement, the display resolution would be given in pixels per inch.

Our definitions of amazing differ. I agree with the article about the 6 display not being the best in typical Apple fashion.

If you said so, then the 6+ display is also not being the best. You know Samsung uses 2560x1440 on its Note 4 ..

Well to be honest, Apple has been losing in screen resolution department for quite some time, despite being the one to "invent" Retina display.

It is absurd when both battery and cpu cannot follow (thus lower performance and lower battery), when the current tech doesn't allow it to be as accurate or as bright as a lower resolution phone and finally, when there's no chance that this phone can really stream content at a resolution that fits the display that's not messed up by compression (does it even uncompress h265?).

Ironically, G2 screen was the correct size for the hardware and current battery. Still a very good phone for the price. Not sure what they tried to prove with the G3.

I couldn't agree more. I have a LG G2 and I think the overall package is simply outstanding, especially for heavy users. IMHO it was the best Smartphone of 2013 and even in 2014, it is still great.

But LG fell into the trap of going into a spec race and try to outshine the competition (Samsung) and be first. The G3 has good specs on paper but the overall experience is not as good as the G2. Smoothness of UI, Display brightness, battery life, etc, could be much better, if they would have continued with a 1080p display.

People buying a phone now with a Display resolution higher than 1080p, have practically hardly any 3rd party multimedia content to enjoy, while on a day to day usage the disadvantages outweigh far more, like faster battery drains, etc.

While the Note 4 is praised for its display, I (as a former Note owner) can imagine, how the real world experience will be after a few months. The UI a will stutter and lag, battery life will decrease over time and after 12 months you wish to throw that thing onto a wall. Well, with its gorgeous display it will be a perfect picture frame :p

I played with the 6+ yesterday in a store over the weekend. The display looks great. Personally for me, it would be sufficient for the next few years. But the price... Ouch!

Yeah, I mean, there’s no lag/stutter on A6 or A7 powered iPads, they're 1/2 generations behind, and they’re pushing ~3.1M pixels vs. ~2.1M ... not to mention the A8 is even _faster_ than the A7 by a decent margin.

I believe this is clearly an OS [optimization] issue that will be resolved in a revision or two over the next couple of months.

So why don't the iPads lag with iOS8??

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Have to admit their customer service is A+ hands down

Well... resolution is actually pretty great and it has nothing to do with pixel count (which is some sort "size" of the screen).

326ppi and 401ppi are AMAZING resolutions and you won't tell the difference between both (human eye can't handle above 300ppi).

1334x750 and 1920x1080 are not so great pixel counts (compared to other devices), but on phones that's actually waaay more than enough.

Resolution is directly related to pixel count, but not pixel density.

The old retina argument that 326 ppi is greater than the human eye can detect has long been disproven, I can see the pixels on it, however the 401 ppi 6 Plus I can't really see the pixels.

What they don't mention is there is no appreciable black market for a Note 4.

Nor will there be any iPhone like lines of people queuing up for one.

haha..

I like how how not much was mentioned but "iPhone 6 is solid".

What's wrong with the 4.7 inch ?

on the Plus, i'm surprised the display hasn't has issues yet, since Apple was having issues

the 6+S...now that just sounds terrible. I am thinking they may do some different naming.

Dude, obviously it will be called the iphone 6S plus and not the other way around lol. Which is perfectly fine.

I got my iPhone 6 plus and it's awesome. I'm one that does a lot of web page reading and youtube watching so it fits my needs. I also only use my phone with headset on I've never liked holding a phone to my ear it irritates my ear badly with its warmth.

AT&T Next

I'm already saving for a 6S+ myself. I'm on the "S" rotation, soooo only 51 more weeks.

Stoked!

D.

I used to be on the S rotation too. My first iPhone was the 3GS. On the 5S, I dropped the contract and signed up for AT&T Next, since they started offering a $25 discount and waived the activation fee. I figure it's almost a wash dollar-wise (I'm not gonna mess with a time value of money calculation), and this way I get a new phone every year. :)

I did run into a snag this year. I would have had to trade in my 5S in order to preorder the 6 Plus. Well, obviously I need my phone for the next month and a half (ETA November), so I ended up paying off the remaining balance on my 5S in order to preorder the 6 Plus. I will have to use one of those third party sites like Gazelle to trade in my 5S for cash once I receive my new 6 Plus (I say third party because it's not through AT&T). That is what I used to do to get the money for my new contract phones, so it's nothing new to me. It's just not as smooth a process as I would have liked it to be. The trade-in values currently are higher than the pay-off balance was, so as long as it stays that way or is at least equal, I don't mind.

I don't like how you have to make an appointment for every little thing, but it is great when your phone breaks down that you can walk into a store and swap it out. I only needed to do it once because my 5S glass faceplate was separating in a corner (bad glue I guess), but it was a lifesaver. With other companies you would have to wait for about a week or more for shipping, and be left phone-less.

If you're talking about Apple Care, of course it should be good, since you're paying for it.

Screen Calibration

Aside from brightness, there aren't really any screen settings for phones, not like TVs. Manufacturers should add settings for color levels, saturation, etc so people can set it where they want it. I noticed my iPad Air screen has too much of a green or yellow tint to it, but I can't adjust it. I bet we'd see a lot of apps for screen calibration if Apple opened it up.

No offense but if this wasn't an apple device, they would have not acknowledged that this was the best LCD display ever. It seems that you should only acknowledge the truly best display which is the NOTE 4 I just wonder how people can always give apple props when its not necessary.

OLED is great for latency, in such an extreme case as a VR HMD. Oculus chose well! Pentile IS a problem for VR (FAR more so than for a phone because the pixels are magnified)--but it's still the best compromise possible for them to use today.

On phones, people get used to the Pentile problem. Or measure other things and ignore it when evaluating. Glad I don't have to!

Remember, all screen technologies have pluses and minuses. Some posters here like to pretend Apple's screen's weaknesses ("only" 401 DPI!!) are a problem while other brands' weaknesses don't exist. Others will pretend Apple's solution (rendering high and downscaling on the Plus) have no impact at all. Not true: that choice does have an effect. (It's likely still the right choice, if early experiences are an indication.)

Also remember that Samsung at al don't sell that many of any given high-end model. Apple, and Apple alone, has to choose a display that can be made in MASSIVE numbers no other single phone model requires.

Out of those engineering realities comes the result: not abstract spec numbers but the quality (and performance) that are delivered. And the iPhone 6/Plus deliver outstandingly.

OMG pentile is not a problem at all anymore. That was two years ago and pentile is far superior to Apples technology at this point of time. IPhone does not have the best screen and its obvious you are trying to insult Samsung. At least we have the chance to experience VR and it will only improve throughout time. There is no longer a issue whatsoever with pentile technology since the Note 3.....

----------

You ignored the people with actual OLED which said that within one year (Note 3) you got burn in and OLED also degrades fast so by year two its far far from being the best (there is still no solution to that). Others have told you the other limitations of OLED.

Anyway, buy what you want. I'm not stopping you for going to get this Note 4. Apple will undoubtably have severely hampered its sales regardless...

Also LCD gets dimmer overtime, there is no burn in in the Note 3's screen.......dont be surprised if your iphone 6's screen has those bright white heat spots within the next several months since its IPS LCD and gets hot alot....while your phone is bending slowly in your pocket....

----------

LED uses less power to display images with a white background. Luminescence degradation occurs after 6000+ hours.

OLED consumes more to achieve the same thing. In addition OLED experiences degradation in certain colours particularly blue after 1000+ hours.

Sorry to bring your house down.

Sorry but samsungs AMOLED technology significantly uses less power than LED/IPS LCD technology....

----------

The best part about the screens is how thin the touch sensor and cover glass is. It feels as though the screen is popping right out of the phone; not constrained in a box.

I love it I love it I love it! :apple:

Lol that was said about the Ipad 4th generation a couple years ago....the irony
