This. People fail to realize that the Mini is considerably wider and that is pretty important when it comes to reading text or browsing the web (or watching videos).

Both have their own uses, and I'll continue to use both of them.

True but I think video will fill out the iPhone plus and be about the same space real estate used on the iPad mini since you get the black bars on top and bottom.

No way. The iphone plus is still way smaller than the mini. The 4:3 aspect ratio of the mini still makes it have much more screen real estate.

No contest. I will not even mention the Air. Forget it.

We might see some more info on this for the next iPad update. Split-screen multitasking on iPad and more productivity enhancing exclusive features may be the differentiator needed to keep people interested.

Yes, that is necessary by iOS 9 in my opinion. Hell, I'd love to watch YouTube videos and browse the web on the iPhone +.

Although, then the iPad will be like the Macs. I'm starting to see less of a reason to own one. If I want more real estate or multitasking, I'll use my rMBP.

Now, a Mac/iPad hybrid could be a killer product.

I think there still a big difference between a 4.7"/5.5" screen and a 9.7" screen.

And even on the 5.5 inch phone, there will still be different specialized layouts for iPad apps while the iPhone 6+ Will, more often than not, get a scaled up phone version

Not there won't be a major difference, but for me it seems very possible that a 5.5" display is just about large enough that I won't need to switch between them much at all anymore.

I agree that the iPhone 6 Plus makes the iPad mini redundant. For the iPad Air? Well, that depends. There's enough of a size difference, but it's not necessary anymore. I suppose if you have the money then might as well go for it. But for most people if they have the Plus I don't think they'll need the iPad anymore.

Hold the phone before you cast judgement.

Love the pun.

Any updates from 6+ owners 5 months later?

Any updates from people on this thread that kept or gave up there pad or tablet since you have the 6+ now?

I have the 6 but I was thinking about upgrading to the plus vs getting a tablet while also trying to convince my wife to not a tablet and just get a phablet of some sort. Meaning the Note 4 or Plus. She has a HTC ONE M7 right now but she is tired of carrying her laptop to school. Not looking for answers, just ideas, that's all. Thanks for reading....

I sold my iPad Mini w/retina a couple of months after getting the 6+ at launch. I used the 6+ without much thought to the iPad mini. The size of the 6+ is excellent for GPS in the car. I could not go back to a smaller phone screen size thats for sure. I definitely use more data with the 6+ but I have no regret selling the iPad mini.

Frankly I have an iPad Air 2 still sealed in box with no desire to open it. Sure, the screen may be twice as big but I think phablets are better-suited for holding for extended periods of time and I don't consider a device that's not pocketable to be portable. Not sure whether I'm going to sell the Air 2 yet but that may just happen, then I'll give the iPad Pro consideration if it's released.

I had a 6 plus for 2 months and sold a air 1 thinking it would replace it, would of sold it anyway. It Won't. I ended up selling the plus got a 6 and a air 2 128gb Lte, best combo for me anyway. Plus is too big as a phone and not big enough for a tablet. A nothing size in my opinion.

But if you can only afford 1 guess you would have to compromise and get the plus.

When I first got my 6 plus I used it all the time and didn't think I really needed my iPad air. I sold my iPad Air and 2 weeks later I ended up buying the air 2.

Reasons why I prefer my air 2 over my 6 plus for home use:

Larger screen (almost double the size)
Stereo speakers
anti glare screen
larger battery
tablet apps
Multi tasking gestures
Faster performance (A8X and 2Gb of ram)
Faster wifi (6 plus is 433Mbps vs Air 2 is 866Mbps) both ac wireless

I have the iPad 4, and since I bought the iPhone 6 plus I don't use the iPad nearly as often. There are times the larger screen comes in handy, but my iPhone has taken over so much of my usage. Even my iMac is not used as often. I'm using my iPhone to type out this message right now.

I have a 6 Plus and iPad Air but still use both enough to justify having both an iPhone and an iPad. If I had an iPad mini I'd probably use the iPad much less, but the Air is still considerably bigger than the 6 Plus and makes surfing the internet, watching Netflix and reading books a nicer experience.

If I had a MacBook Air I don't think I'd have an iPad as well, but my 15" cMBP is a bit too heavy to take everywhere and the battery only last 2 hours compared to the iPad's 8 ish.

I've had an iPad since the first generation and I loved the iPad. A year and a half ago, when the air and the mini retina came out I agonized for a while trying to decide whether to replace my iPad 3 with the air or the mini retina. I finally decided to go with the mini retina and I loved it. It was so much more portable than the full sized iPad and I used it much more than I used my iPad 3. I also brought it with me much more often as well. I have a Windows laptop, but at this point I rarely used the laptop... I did almost everything on the iPad or the iPhone. I never considered getting rid of the laptop as there are some things that can't be done on the iPad, but would easily go a week or two or even longer without picking up the laptop.

Last fall I got the iPhone 6 on launch day and immediately my iPad usage dropped. I had be using it daily, but after I got the 6 I would go days or even a week without picking up the iPad. I think part of it was 'new device fever' and over time I started using the iPad a bit more again, but still not nearly as much as I did before I got the 6. I could still go a couple of days without touching the iPad.

After a couple of months I started drooling over the iPhone 6 plus in the stores and I wondered if I had made the wrong decision getting a 6. A bit more than a month ago I finally gave in and bought a 6 plus. It took a little time to get used to the size, but I love the bigger phone. After using it for a couple of weeks I sold my 6 and I haven't looked back yet.

Since I got the 6 plus my iPad usage has dropped even more. Again I'm back to picking it up only once or twice a week. The funny thing is that my laptop usage has actually increased since I got the 6 plus. Now it seems that sometimes I just want an even bigger screen than the 6 plus or the iPad mini, so if I don't want to do something on the phone I'll pick up the laptop instead.

At this point I'm not quite sure what I want to do with the iPad mini. I do still prefer to use it occasionally (it's nice for watching movies on a plane, for example, but I only do that a few times a year), but for the most part my phone or laptop are fine. I'm thinking I'll probably sell the mini, but I'm not sure if I'll replace it with a bigger iPad or not. Like a PP, I think I may wait to see how the iPad pro looks when (or if) that comes out, but frankly, unless it has more 'laptop like' features than the current full size iPad I don't think I'd get it just for the bigger screen. When I was using a full size iPad before I didn't always take it with me because of it's size... and adding a couple of inches to the screen size won't increase the portability.

So, if anyone is still reading after all that, I think the answer to the question is... yes, it's definitely possible to get by with the iPhone 6 plus without having an iPad, but there are times where I do want to have a bigger screen. A laptop or an iPad might be good for those times.

Redundant with iPad min? Maybe, but not with the full 9.7 iPad. I have the iPhone 6 but editing files on an iPhone 6+ or reading my textbooks for school would be too small imo.

I don't have a 6+ so maybe I'm not the most qualified to comment on its viability as a tablet replacement, but my most common use for a tablet is simple web surfing, and I don't think that a 5.5" display is ideal for viewing most web pages. My current tablet is a Nexus 7, and even the 7" display is a bit cramped for some sites if I want to view the desktop version. The 6+ may be big for a phone, but it's still no tablet. Even small 7-8" tablets offer significantly more screen real estate.

The editing files might be the reason she ends up getting a tablet. For me with the 6, I love this size but i see myself looking at more videos and I'm starting to read more too, but that's a weak excuse to splurge on a 6+. Lol

I just have to say I'm new to the Apple community and I read all the responses prior to the one I just quoted and responded to, and I have to say thank you to u all because all of you gave great experiences which gave me a great perspective on owning a phone and a tablet or iPad and nobody gave me grief about bumping up a old thread. I'm not "new" to forums or anything but it was refreshing to actually read experiences so I'm thankful for that.

I just joined the Apple experience back in Dec 2014 so I only know iOS 8 and I love it. It's truly a simple working OS and I understand the hype more differently now Vs the fanboy jive#. Anyways, it was cool reading some updated experiences. #

Owning an iPad Mini was redundant for me anyway.
Practically everyone can get by with a mobile phone and a computer. Tablets are add-ons for the man or woman who has everything...

I was never interested in the mini even when it first came out because of the odd size. I already had an iPad and an iPhone. Though, at the time I wished the iPhone was larger. So, when the iPhone 6 plus was announced I knew it would likely be perfect. I was slightly hesitant that the phone might be too large, but it turned out to be just right. So, my current combo of iPhone 6 plus, iPad and macbook pro works great for my needs. Though, since obtaining the 6 plus, I use my iPad significantly less. No interest in the mini.

Having an iPad Mini and iPhone 6 Plus would seem redundant to me.

For me, a 6 Plus with an iPad Air isn't too bad. Although I do use my iPad a lot less.

I'm another guy where the 6 Plus does everything I need for mobile computing. Is the Air display bigger and more beautiful? Yes. But the 6 Plus fits my needs much better and is plenty big enough.

Yes, my iPhone 6 Plus replaced my iPad 3 and I also felt having the iPad seemed redundant. After I got the iPhone 6 Plus, my iPad usage went way down. I think a contributing factor to that is also how slow the iPad felt compared to my nice new iPhone.

I finally sold my iPad and I got a MacBook Air 11". It's a great combo.
