Just strange making comments about something you have no clue about.
Please explain in detail what makes the iPhone specs mid-tier. Please explain in detail why Apple made a poor choice with 1 GB of RAM.....you can't, because they didn't.
On the iPad Air, I can occasionally see the need for more RAM, because Safari on the iPad is more conducive to multi-tabbed browsing....which seems to need more RAM to prevent tabs reloading (BTW....WAAAAAAA).
No other aspect of the OS or Apps has ever lead me to believe RAM was lacking (coming from someone with 16 GB of RAM in his Macs and PCs)....especially not on iPhone.
The whole argument is a tech nerds fantasy.
That's exactly it. Calling these devices "phones" is rather misleading.Who uses a phone to make calls?
I was the latter but I'm over it now. But still comes back to the fact that you're paying a premium price for something that's pretty average in terms of specs.
Also I've never used anything iOS related so it could be optimized where 1 GB is more than enough, if that's the case they need to lower the price to the same as other smartphones that still use 1GB. Just my thoughts

Sorry but 1 GB of RAM in 2014 classifies as mid tier in terms of specs. No way around that. Phones released last year have larger batteries and more memory than this phone.
There is some real concern regarding the RAM limitation. In versions of iOS prior to 7.1, iPhones tended to crash easily due to running out of memory when doing heavy multitasking.
I'm sure Apple engineering is great, but limited RAM invariably means a compromise somewhere, especially with multiple apps / safari tabs open. It is difficult to understand why Apple would insist on holding back in the total amount of RAM available, especially since both the A7 and A8 processors are both 64-bit...
Having to deal with crashes and tabs reloading due to limited RAM incontrovertibly contributes negatively to user experience. I just hope that Apple has done some under-the-hood work to minimize this if they're going with 1GB.
Right now everyone's like: it don't need more RAM cuz apple's code is so efficient making the whole experience great.
Then why will the 6S sport a revolutionary 2GB in a year or two???

1GB was enough before Apple moved to "64bit". The 64bit OS has a larger footprint, so the same 1GB has less effective available memory. The iPad 4 did not have a big problem with browser tab reloading as the Air does.
Let the spec nuts go wild while completely missing the point . . .
1GB is enough for a phone.
iPad's should be the devices to get 2gb. Hopefully with the next product refresh in October.
To all those saying iOS doesn't need more than 1GB - good luck with iOS 9, 10 and 11!
Well, if true, let's hope that Apple figured out how to stop that pesky Safari refresh issue.
Game over. See you with the 6s. Have fun with Safari reloads and apps being killed on background.
1GB is NOT enough, and iPhone 5s / iPad Air clearly proved it.
Bob Mansfield would never have allowed this.
