Agreed...

1GB is enough for a phone.
iPad's should be the devices to get 2gb. Hopefully with the next product refresh in October.

I agree. I think you're going to see the RAM bump in the iPad first. The mini will probably stay at 1 GB, the 10" will go to 2 GB and if there's "pro" model, maybe 3 GB (maybe)

I expect both of the 6s will work fine on iOS 8. But over time as people continue to expand the uses of smartphones, particularly with larger screens, I can't help but wonder if these devices will be handicapped with iOS 9 and 10, for example. I don't want a new phone every year; even every other year is a bit too frequent for me. I want to maximize longevity. Does 1 GM RAM limit that longevity? I guess we'll find out.

I hope the review Embargo lifts soon so we can see what the pros say. Will have to see how the 2 compare in real world usage vs speculation.

Since when does RAM impact battery life that much?

It doesn't. In fact more RAM helps battery usage since you don't need to kill apps, tabs, etc as much (and then reload them, using more CPU, network, flash access, ...)

Apple put profit and planned obsolescence before user happiness. Plain and simple. Anyone arguing otherwise is an apologist.

They are just holding out,

They will absolutely advertise increase in RAM as a feature whenever they do it.

With the next gen i wouldn't be surprised if during their product video they say something like.

"we have done something remarkable, we have doubled the memory so you can accomplish so much more, the past generations have never had this much memory before".

Typical Apple, I won't lie, ios8 has made my 5s a little sluggish, it still feels like a beta, hopefully they have a day one update.

No big deal. I have never had tabs reload or any other problems on my iPhone 5.

Now, my iPad is a different story. A third tab is usually enough to cause previous tabs to reload. It's damn annoying.

you'd think it would have 2GB of RAM strange that to be honest.

Does anyone know what time IOS 8 is being released uk time :)

1999 called and wants it's AGP RAM Aperture back.

The PowerVR GPU, just like every other GPU in the last decade that is worth talking about, has it's own separate memory specifically for frame buffering, 3D textures, etc.

Really wow you learn something new, just odd that all the indepth analysis of the board leaks state 1gb ram in stacked configuration with zero ram except caches on die?

On desktops i agree yes on Mobiles i dont think so at all.

As an example

...Really Safari ... do you need 500mb per open tab? I wouldn't care about extra memory if Apple could at least keep a couple of Safari tabs in memory at once. Or maybe even figure a way to page the tabs to disk as needed. Or something!

<end rant>

No, Safari doesn't need (or use) 500 MB or anything close. That's why adding more RAM isn't going to fix the tab reloading problem:
It's not due to lack of RAM.

I don't know why people assume that it is, and cling to that idea against any argument. (Not saying you do, but there are some people that do. I think you're on the right track when you question if Safari could possible need 500 MB per tab... Of course the answer is no.)

Anyone know if the RAM in the iPhone 6 is LPDDR3 or LPDDR4? Just curious.

I'd like to be able to truly multitask- as in take notes while watching a movie or something. Didn't Apple or someone once say that the reason for not having this was the speed of the RAM & battery life? I wouldn't mind having a slightly thinker iPhone/iPad if it meant more, faster RAM and a longer battery life.

A little OT, but I'd also really like multiple users. I work in a school where we have a bunch of iPads that the students share. It would really help if we could have different accounts set up so students don't mess with another student's work. This could also really help with families as well. Not sure if this decision is based on the amount/type of RAM or not.

I love how specs do not mean anything until it is in Apple's favor. The Apple community has really become either super complaisant or just ignorant.

Show me one post on this site where someone has claimed Apple is better because it has more RAM or more CPU GHZ or more Mega-Pixels. You won't find many. You will see a lot of posts when the A7 came out where people flooded in creating new accounts to tell us why 64-bit was a gimmick (which it wasn't).

Maybe you are just confused.

Please.......

Hey, everyone needs to take a look at this right now. That screen shot is not from an iPhone 6 Plus. Plus, the resolution I'm showing in iPhoto is 400x711. No way that is from an iPhone 6, Plus or not!

Also, since when did an app come out on the App Store for you to check your memory usage? (If it is a real app, does anyone know which it is?) Its supposed to be running iOS 8 which means that it hasn't been jailbroken yet either.

Let me put it simple.

THE PICTURE IS GENUINE. PERIOD.

There's something called 'Display Zoom' in 6/6+.

Reference: http://www.apple.com/iphone-6/display/

And here is the App you are looking for: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/system-status-activity-monitor/id401457165?mt=8

I'm more than confident because I know the leaker's name, gender, nationality, and workplace.

Hint? "I ate Kimchi near the apple tree in Sidney."

Obviously, this would only be a concern if someone is trying to run Android on their iPhone 6/6+

Move along people. nothing to see here.

I think the real question here should be why is webkit/IOS so poorly designed that 1GB isn't enough for Safari to provide a decent experience? A safari tab should not take up tens of MBs of memory when loaded unless its a super long page with tons of photos, etc... 1 GB of memory should actually be enough for as many tabs as people can reasonably keep track of without being purged from memory at the slightest memory hit.

What do you guys think? Apps that were opened: Safari (6tabs open), Facebook, Facebook messenger, Music, Phone, Mail, Cow Evolution(game) & iStat. Directly after a restart, as you can see where it says Uptime. Is it really that bad? I mean, i would agree its definitely time to make 2gb the minimum. But yeah. idk.

It makes me sick reading so many comments defending Apple, this is exactly why people make fun of Apple fans, nothing is ever wrong, Apple never makes mistakes.

It is pathetic really, Apple is just a company, relax, it is not your family, although judging by how much people defend Apple, I think it is the only close relationship.

Apple should have increased the RAM, period. The tabs refreshing every 5 minutes is annoying, more RAM solves the problem. Why are we arguing here? What is it to defend?

I even saw a comment saying that less RAM is actually better, are you serious? Please, stop it, is sad really. It is just a phone. Relax.
