Response to whiner/cryer... Galaxy Note 3

Yes, yes I do when you're trying to sit down. Adjust to the new ways. Stop your crying and learn how to handle your device. This size of smart device is not meant to be in your pocket when you sit down. I and millions of other people have learned how to manage, I'm sure you can.

I couldn't resist the urge to cry about your crying about how everyone is crying.

I had a Galaxy Note 3 for about a year and carried it in my front left pocket, my brother in law too. Guess what? Our phones were never bent or damaged from the day to day tasks and wears of life. Also, I'm a parent, weight lifter, biker and runner...a jack of all sorts/trades... Hmmm, I'm guessing you should propose a fanny pack and a balistic-holstered case for the phone to wear on the fanny pack?

Or, I guess with your mentality I should purchase an iPhone and leave it boxed up in my closet.

Anyhow, this is an unfortunate and very uncommon event. Any rational and sound minded person would typically not expect their phone to get bent carrying it in their pocket. Again, this is not a common occurrence... if it is, I must not get out much...

Sorry about your luck and I hope Apple will swap it out for you. With that said, I'll give the whiner some credit and recommend you adjust the way you transport your phone i.e. a case with realistic proportions. I use the speck grip for my iPhone 6 I picked up from Best Buy. It's thin, grippy, has a hard layer and shock-obsorbtion layer.

If the same issue occurs, I wouldn't bother with the phone. Also, if you are going to chance it a second round I recommend you get phone insurance from Square Trade or pick up Apple Care. An Apple rep told me Apple Care is $100 for the iPhone 6 with a $79 deductive for any damage to the phone to repair/exchange it (i.e. water, cracked glass, etc.).

I was thinking the same thing. I think I always take my phone out before I sit down.

Ever since buying a smartphone (Samsung Galaxy s2) I have always taken my phone out of my pocket (any pants or shorts) before sitting down anywhere, be it my car or a chair or couch.
It's just by habit.
I feel bad for the 6+ people. I wonder if there will be a bentgate and apple will replace phones ? Or covered under insurance or AppleCare.

Do you people really think you can put these in your pants pocket and not bend
it? C'mon a little common sense, Please!

I'm sure Apple will get the blame and be asked to replace it......amazing.....*face palm*

Delusional post of the year award goes to....

Yeah let me just stop putting my cell phone in my pocket....

Looking forward to see if Apple acknowledges this when alot more of these bend in the next few weeks.

When I'm in the subway, I always put my Nexus 7 in my pants - a cheap Android tablet that sells for a fraction of the price of an Apple mini. It's not a phablet, it's a mini-tablet, 7". And yet, it still has to bend... And if it bends, it won't remain so, because it is mainly made of plastic.

Well, the maths suggest that you have to do some R&D and engineering to build something that will be able to withstand these news constraints. I would have hoped by someone at able was able to do maths...
Bridges are built longer and longer, with more and more cars. Yet, do bridges collapse ? No, because architects use new way of building them. Cars are now made with more and more plastic. Yet, do they break ? No, because the manufacturer put a lot of R&D in this.

This is called innovation. I would have expected Apple to do some of that... There are metals and alloys that are stronger than aluminium yet remain lightweight. Likewise a thin sheet of metal will bend, but if you don't manufacture a simple sheet but add some structure (honeycombs or the like), it won't bend. You can also use plastic, which is much stronger than aluminium and doesn't remain bent.

Cars? Bridges? Is there really a parallel? Cars are much heavier today for their size. They have much stronger reinforcement around the passenger areas. The rest is designed to break up in a controlled manner.

Plastic that is thin often cracks and yellows. A case that bends also does not protect what's inside. All designs are compromises. This is fact. If iPhones weren't on the cutting edge of light and thin, Apple would probably have more unhappy customers than they do due to occasional bending. That's my guess anyway since they don't make a rugged iPhone. It's simply not their primary market.

And how many drinks you get?

Or how crazy was your dancing?

The other day after a good party you found that some things are not correct like in the movie The Hangover.

Maybe the next time you go to a party it is better to leave your iphone.

---------------------------

I was joking with all of this, if the iphone 5S has bent issues do you imagine this new iphones that are slimmer? They will have more bent issues.

Why the hell isn't a phone meant to be pocketed?! What kinda of messed up logic is that? I have always and and will forever more put my damn phone in my pocket because, guess what? Its the norm! I'm not about to start holding my phone in my hand all the damn time, nor will I buy a bunch of shirts with pockets to put it in.

I adore Apple, but this is is a grand scale mess up. You can't defend that no matter what. The fact 3 or more people on here have posted pics of this already is sickening. I'm actually considering getting a fricken hard case. How absurd...

Pocketable

Agreed :D

After following and reading this thread for so long, I am only interested in one thing: Did the TS went to the Genius Bar and asked what is going on with the bend and what resolution was done for the TS.

In America we put phones in our pockets.

In the rest of the world they put their phones in purses, man bags, and other bags/briefcases.
Apple built the 6+ to compete in Korea, china, and Japan where everybody and their mom uses their phone for everything because they can't afford a phone, tv, laptop, and tablet. Asia is the largest market for phones. Usa is like 20% of the worlds consumers.

Doesn't excuse a weak exterior shell. Especially after a few days of release...

When I was in Europe, I never saw men using man bags or briefcases except for businessmen, which is the same in the U.S. If anything, men in Europe wear tighter jeans then we do here.

look below at the list of threads similar to this one. You can see that this was also an issue with the 5 and 5s, it definitely affects a few but have we heard of bending since those launches? Probably not as often, i've had my iphone 5 for 2 years and while I was always worried, it has never bent over time.

Instead of pulling stuff out of thin air, you better look at the facts and one of the industry leaders is Nokia that published its research:
https://research.nokia.com/files/45590483.pdf

If you take the time to look at page 4 it even compares different cities which each other and everything you say is complete nonsense!!
It says that in cities like Seoul (South Korea) the phone is carried at a rate of 75% in trouser pockets with men. NYC for example is at 60%

Its amazing that how in these days where you have all the information just some clicks away, that so many people just make up stories to desperately defend their cowcrap.

Hahaha, you said 3 people claim to have bending issues. So funny. Out of how many that's projected to be sold this weekend? 10 MILLION. 12 Million?

No, this is a non issue and people are not taking proper care of their devices.

Because it's NOT A PHONE. yes, it has a phone app to make calls but that is one of the least used things of the SMART DEVICE.

It's a portable computer with all of the human knowledge in the palm of your hand. And it's all wireless.

This isn't the flip phones of yesteryear anymore. This is the future now.

Seriously man!? Did you actually read this study in full? This study was CONCLUDED in 2007. Started in 2003. You really don't think a few things have changed since then?

As of January 2007, the study has conducted street interviews with 1549 participants from eleven cities in nine countries on four continents. Data collection started in 2003 with Helsinki, New York (NYC) followed by Milan in 2004. Beijing, Jilin, Hyderabad, Tokyo, Los Angeles (LA) and Seoul were done in 2005. Delhi, Kampala, and Tehran were done in 2006. The research team collected at least 50 male and 50 female participants in each city with additional data collected dependent on the availability of local resources.

You are either 12 or a sad adult.

All of Apples competitors can make a "phablet" that survives a front pant pocket, I expect Apple to as well. Apple should be form AND function. Not just form.

Dude, don't be silly. it's not an issue because it's only just been released on Friday. I have a right to feel a little concerned if I've seen hard evidence of what the OP has mentioned. If putting an iPHONE in your pocket is some form of carelessness, then a lot of people are committing the same act. Yes, it's a smart device, but it's not a fricken iPad mini or bigger. Geez, they've still made it to be carried around everywhere with some relative ease.

I don't care where you wanna carry yours. Put it in a hold-all wrapped neatly with bubble-wrap for all I care. People carry these devices in pockets and its how they've been designed.

Hi friends, what does bent-gate mean?:eek:

It's a play on Watergate...google it.
Any potential iPhone issues get comically referred to as *whatever*gate, and in this case the (potential) problem is the aluminium casing getting bent whilst in pockets. Hence bendgate.

Sitting down with a ******* phone in your pocket is akin to offroading in a Ferrari? What is wrong with you apologists seriously?

Do you expect me to not put a phone in my pocket? Are you delusional?

Its a giant this phone!! What's wrong with you!

A pocket wallet size photo will not be damaged in a pocket. But try putting a 4x 6 in your pocket.

Its just too big!
