Front or back pocket, the phone will bend with enough stress/pressure. We all knew this was going to happen. Doesn't matter what pants you're wearing or how loose they are. If enough force is applied, the phone will bend. It's that simple.

Not Apple's fault. Not an engineering fault.

If I had a Plus I'd assume I needed a 'man bag' on me at all times.

Wouldn't put that beast in any of my trouser pockets - it'd probably snap. Do yanks all wear big comfort fit jeans to accommodate their heft?

It is incredible that after 24-48 hours there are already a couple of reported cases of bended iphone 6+ under normal use conditions. Lets not forget that the 6+ availability is still very low and this issue might become bigger the more 6+ get shipped and used.

I guess as soon as mainstream media picks up this story, Apple will need to react!

Instead of all the drop test and other crazy ways to destroy the iphone (pouring liquid nitrogen over it and then hitting it with it a sledgehammer) i see on youtube, somebody should do a bend test with moderate force, nothing crazy.

To be honest, I haven't heard anything about Samsung Note-series or Nokia Lumia 1520's bending...

Since we had bent iPhone 5's complaints, it stands to reason with a thinner 6, it will bend more. Get a belt clip. Problem solved. No, Apple will not, cannot make any changes to this model. Probably have to wait two years for the 7.

I attribute it more to today's skinny-jeans/pants generation PLUS the huge size of phones that they've been clamoring for. Apple gave them what they wanted, a huge phone, but they somehow want it all to work in skinny pants, and probably without being responsible to either put a case on it for protection or carry it in a belt holster or a carrying case (a purse, a murse, or whatever contraption). Somewhere therein lies the problem, as I see it. People obviously are observing that there may be a bend danger factor in a thin, long device, and need to be responsible with it. A company can only do so much against the law of physics.

No doubt that skinny jeans will definitely cause this, but the OP was wearing suit pants
Yesterday, I left at 10am with the iPhone in my left FRONT pocket of my suit pants.

I agree there's not much you can do about the laws of physics but then that's my point. Why design such a thin phone that is so delicate that normal usage (and I qualify putting a phone in the front suit pant pocket as normal) will cause damage.

How much force. do you think trousers would submit your phone to? Doesn't matter what trousers? No. It shouldn't matter what you wear because it shouldn't start bending at all. We're not talking a cinder block for 12 hours. That's pathetic.

OP said front pocket. I've had numerous smartphones in all kinds of trousers and jeans and shorts, with covers and without covers. And let me make this clear : not one single one of those phones, smart phones, smart devices - or whatever you wanna call them - suffered from bending. Not one. Now it suddenly becomes apparent to me that it could be an issue and you're going to say is my carelessness? Don't be daft.

There are some really dumb people here, I've owned just about every worth while android phone that has come out and every iPhone. Every phone goes into my front right pocket.

Not once has any of my phones been bent or messed up in any way.

I agree that you need to take care of your phone, but putting a phone in your pocket isn't abuse or negligence.

Wow some people here really do defend Apple to death and must own a lot of stock.

I'd personally argue the phone is not fit for purpose if it can't be carried around in a side trouser pocket.

I'm no Apple apologist but I'm definitely on the side of those criticising the complainers here. It's insane to think you can carry a 5.5" phone in your pocket that is super light and thin and for it not to bend when you apply a lot of force to it in your daily routines.

Apple is entirely blameless here. You need to think about how you are going to carry a phone this large if you buy one. I'd suggest something like a man bag and keep it out of your pockets. But if you choose to pocket it, then if it bends it is your fault. End of story.

I carry a 5.5" phone in my front pocket without any issue. It's super light and almost as thin as the iPhone 6. I've had it a couple months and often put it in my front pocket except for one pair of jeans I have which have a shallow pocket. Sitting in a car... Sitting at my desk... Whatever it doesn't bend.

If LG can design a phone that doesn't bend easily Apple should be able to as well.

Do you people really think you can put these in your pants pocket and not bend
it? C'mon a little common sense, Please!

I'm sure Apple will get the blame and be asked to replace it......amazing.....*face palm*

pretty sure the iphone 4 doesn't bend.

Ain't it the truth.

Samsung makes a phone with a 5.7" screen (the Note) that is shorter than the iPhone with a 5.5" screen. If the tables were turned and Samsung had the taller phone with the smaller screen, can you just imagine the negative comments, the laughing, the ridicule? But when Apple makes a phone that is too tall to comfortably fit in the front pocket, it's suddenly "What idiot is stupid enough to put a phone in their front pocket?!?!"

Never said it was anyone's carelessness. I said it seems very plausible it would bend. It's a thin phone. Very thin phone. It's made of a soft metal - aluminum. Aluminum bends quite easily. I have never bent a phone. Kept them in my front pocket but I am also aware than certain actions like squatting or anything that would cause my pants to tighten and put force on the phone. Sometimes I forget but most times I am aware.

Apple should not replace bent phones. JMO. For an iPhone 6 NOT to bend, it would have to be made out of stainless steel and reinforced. It would be much heavier. Even then, it would still bend since it's so thin.

We all knew there would be threads like this months before the phone was released. Not even a day in and there were complaints.

Get a plastic phone?

This thread is about the 6 Plus.....doh!

The point is that such an expensive phone shouldn't be bending under normal usage in the first place.

Agree with this completely. I was slightly interested in the iPhone 6+ until I realized that it's larger than the Note 3 and yet it has a smaller screen. Instant deal breaker.

I think its unreasonable to market a device as a smartphone and not be able to place it in your front pocket. Assuming this went down the way the OP says it does then the iPhone should not have bent under the conditions described. Now if by "dancing" the OP was acting more like a back up dancer to Beyonce then perhaps it did undergo unusual stress. :p

If this situation becomes widespread, then it is indeed a design flaw. Good design and engineering isn't limited to making a device thin or beautiful--it has to operate in real world conditions--and people carrying their smartphone in a pocket is a real world condition.

The point is that such an expensive phone shouldn't be bending.

I could also say that such an expensive phone's screen should never shatter. However, this is clearly an absurd expectation since the screens are made of glass on almost all devices in that class.

That's part of the reason why I actually love the iPhone 4. It's thicker and heavier and feels solid in your hand. You can tell that it's durable and reliable just by holding it. On the other hand the iPhone 5 feels like light, thin and flimsy.
