I could also say that such an expensive phone's screen should never shatter. However, this is clearly an absurd expectation since the screens are made of glass on almost all devices in that class.

Almost every electronic device is prone to heavy damage when you drop it due to the forces exerted.

On the other hand, I don't think any phone has actually been spoiled simply by placing it in your pocket.

Because they are plastic. So if you want a phone that rebounds from a slight bend, buy a model made of plastic.

You had an iPhone 6+ with case in your pants pocket and didn't even feel it ???

I wear loose fit jeans and the fact that I'm coming from a note 2 for the last 2 years probably helps. Compared to the note 2 carrying the 6+ is a breeze!

I didn't know my iPhone 4 is made of plastic.

Now you're just being contrary. You do know that your iPhone 4 is much thicker. This is not a difficult concept to grasp.

So here, I'll clarify...if you want a phone that doesn't bend at all, buy a thicker model. If you want a phone that rebounds from a bend, buy a plastic model. If you want an iPhone 6 or 6+, don't place it in a situation where it might endure high enough pressure to cause it to bend.

Even with my iPhone 4, I did not drive with it in my pocket. I placed it in the cupholder where it was used to play music through my car stereo. I don't understand people that leave their phones in their pockets when they sit. It's not healthy due to the heat and radiation.

my iphone 5/5s were both bent after a year. granted, it didn't take 2 days to do it- maybe closer to a couple months.

Just wanted to take the time and thank this thread for giving me an inside look into my fellow Macrumors members' wardrobes, thigh and arse size and a whole host of other personal data. I know more about this motley group of strangers than I ever thought I would.

I think its unreasonable to market a device as a smartphone and not be able to place it in your front pocket. Assuming this went down the way the OP says it does then the iPhone should not have bent under the conditions described. Now if by "dancing" the OP was acting more like a back up dancer to Beyonce then perhaps it did undergo unusual stress. :p

If this situation becomes widespread, then it is indeed a design flaw. Good design and engineering isn't limited to making a device thin or beautiful--it has to operate in real world conditions--and people carrying their smartphone in a pocket is a real world condition.

If the OP is unhappy with the experience - he can return it and choose a different product.

99% of users will not have a problem. There is always 1% that will and those are the ones you will see here.

Wrong. If I want to use my current setup I need to buy an iPhone 6 which can bend easily. This is a major design flaw.

Some people here are hilarious. You should be able to put your phone in your pocket without it bending. You don't have to blindly defend Apple. A phone should be able to withstand the exertion of being in a pants pocket without bending, point blank, end of story.

Oh dear Im fat, most pants are tight and the pouch things won't fit.

I could use gaffers tape and tape it outside of leg when i sit down.....

I just don't understand how anyone could look at the 6 Plus and think "that will be fine in my jeans pocket while sitting down". It seems a bit delusional to me. Do they think Apple is magic, and they've somehow changed the physical properties of aluminum?

What's even more delusional is to have one get bent in your pocket and then think "Oh, this particular one was just 'defective' so I'll have Apple replace it with another one exactly like it. I'm sure that one won't get bent in my pocket."

Here's some rational thinking for you:
I want a phone I can keep in my pocket all the time, so therefore I will not buy an iPhone 6 Plus. Just because it is made by Apple, it's a phone, and it fits in my pocket, that doesn't mean it is immune to the laws of physics.

IMO Apple simply overshoot the mark of thinness in combination with the wrong materials ( mainly Aluminium ). I mean, thin is cool and light is cool. But bending is very uncool.

What else Apple offers to buy ? A 4 inch iPhone 6, thicker with a better battery ?

Vertical, yes. Horizontal, all bets are off.

Wait a second....

The two phones I read (first few pages) before I started tuning out they BOTH had gone to wedding celebrations, one a wedding the other wedding anniversary.

I know what happens at weddings. First you're doing okay, next thing you're dirty dancing with a bridesmaid on top of a table while they play terrible music.

You were doing the bump with a bridesmaid and it bent the phone.

If you bent your phone when you put it in your pocket, just reverse the way you put your phone in your pocket the next day. Keep switching and itll stay straight.

Now that you say it, I also think we have a wedding issue here. iPhone 6 plus is just no good for weddings.

The screen won't shatter under normal use.
