right and wrong (my opinion)
- it is the company to decide wich products they offer
- it is the customer to decide what to buy

did e.g. Porsche produce any kind of trucks?
(don't mean those SUVs:D

sometimes the current 5s seems little to small for my needs, but on the other side iOS is quite fine for me (so it is not only the size what matters - its a summ of different parts...)

…

I completely agree with you, I am not saying Apple should or should not do anything - it's their business to make what they feel is best for the customer and their bottom line. All I am trying to say, is that people who take such a hard line stance of NO ONE NEEDS THIS EVAR is shortsighted, and isn't even willing to consider the sum of the total parts because it begins and ends, for some people, with an Apple logo. Or any logo or brand for that matter.

I'm really interested in what additional things we'll be able to do with a larger screen, but frankly, at cell phone sizes, I feel like 16:9 is a terrible aspect ratio for productivity until you get to monitor sizes.

How about keeping a model the current size? or even smaller?
Those of us who carry an iPad everywhere anyway need something that's more iPhone and less iPad Nano.

The Think Different part is that it will be exactly the same screen width. It will just be a really tall 5.5 in diagonal!

Apple will NEVER launch a 5inch or bigger smartphone. That would be far too big to deliver the experience Apple wants to give its customers. Anyone expecting this is going to be disappointed when iPhone 6 launches to the world.

Never say never. Look at the iPad mini as an example. The only reason Apple released a iPad mini was because smaller tablets were killing the large iPad. Eventually Apple can't keep selling 4.9" iPhones for the next 10 years. The market will force them to increase the size. The market is doing that right now with this 4.7 and 5.5 inch iPhone. If the competition never released a phone greater than 4.3" the 4" iPhone would still be Apple's choice in 2014. Apple would look silly right now if they stuck to 4".

"New" formfactor

To me, the whole iPhone form factor is getting old and outdated. Need something sexier with a few curves. Time to move on.

Good idea to make something new or "new": I would like Apple to make an iphone clamshell like the old Nokia Communicators. The touch screen in addition to all the hardware keys would give an abundance of possible input options and ways to handle the phone.

But, unfortunately for me, I think this is not in accordance with the trends.

However, I really think this form factor gives many useful features.

This just in iPhone 7 leak!

Finally the right size.jpg

Ugh. The 4" Screen on the 5 already sticks out of my pocket. The phone doesn't need to be any bigger. Everyone with big phones already looks like a ridiculous 80's banker, it doesn't need to get any worse.

"a bigger iPhone doesn't suit my needs, and my pants are the same size as everyone elses on the planet, therefore nobody needs a bigger iPhone"

thats basically what you said.. glad you're not in charge of Apple.

I'm using a Nokia Lumia 1520 now, but I would go back to an Iphone if they release a 5.5inch model.

Wow, as early as September. I have been saying that for how long? Looks like these "leakers" finally have their heads on straight with the launch date.

I would like to point out that it would be stupid for Apple to release their lower end phone with the bigger screen and keep the higher end iPhone with the smaller screen. Lets face it, Apple wants to make money. While putting the bigger screen in the lower end phone may move more inventory of the lower end iPhone, it will cannibalize sales of the high end iPhone (Apple's money maker) and lead too less profits unless Apple cuts the cost of production even further.

You're right about the really tall part. Anyone that familiar with the great debate over beer bottle form factors, will know that stubbies no longer exist for a reason, consumers just prefer to handle longnecks.

However, because a phone is something that people not only handle, they also look at it, the aspect ratios have to be useful in both landscape and portrait.

Think in terms of paper, when was the last time you saw something written on legal (8.5 * 14) pages; not often, Letter paper (8.5 * 11) is just more appealing.

I bet that those ridiculous Samsung things only get repeat business and referals from people that think Android is a particularly brilliant and intuitive user interface.

The market for XL smartphones is not the mass market.

I think they should get rid of the physical home button. Will be much better with only on-screen buttons.

Have you ever tried to watch netflix or a movie while holding an android tablet? It's almost impossible to not touch either the back or the menu buttons. Kinda lame. I've never been kicked off an app because I ACCIDENTALLY hit the home button on an iPad or iPhone.

4.7in? maybe. Probably, even.

5.5in? No way.

I'd stock up on tasty condiments for future use atop those words of yours. Maybe/maybe not for the 6, but the 7 or 8 will definitely have an XL option(s) available. It's what the market is demanding.

You all forget, we want to just have the phone in our pockets have video/games/whatever viewed on a headset or on our wrists within the next few years so a bigger screen wouldn't be necessary.

A larger iPhone doesn't appeal to me, but I may be in the minority.

I like a phone that fits in my pocket, but I can see the appeal to those who want one device that does it all, and is used as much a computer as a phone.

Does anyone think there is a market for a combo iPad/iPhone? How big is too big?

What? Millions of people think that way! Why do you think Samsung can command such a high price for their Note 3? Because for many people it replaces the idea of having to carry around a tablet - especially men who don't want to lug around a tablet bag formerly known as a purse.

Get over yourself man, Apple is a profit-sucking American company like all the others, nothing more, nothing less. They may claim on a public stage that they have certain dogmas and doctrines, but the Market, especially the Global Market, is demanding "Phablets" NOW and Apple will definitely want their piece of that market. Yes, Apple may have put this ship out to sea, but it no longer steers.

----------

People now want "big"...so to me there's no doubt that Apple will eventually/soon offer a "Phablet"...my bet would be 2016 at the latest. But when they do, iOS had better not remain a plain and soulless grid of icons at that larger scale. It would be like one of those gag remote controls with the huge keys that people buy Grandpa for his birthday.

I've said nothing about the 7 or the 8. If guessing about the 6 is as precise as reading tea leaves at the bottom of a cup, the ones after that are simply impossible. I stand by those words regarding the 6. And if they come out with a 4.7 in the iPhone 6, I say that a larger phone won't come out for at least another 2 to 3 generations.

It's what basically only the Korean market is demanding.

There, fixed it for you.

Yes, I have both a Nexus 7 and iPad Air. With Netflix the screen switches to full screen and the buttons disappear, so I never have issues accidentally pressing them.

As for video quality, the Nexus 7 uses the whole screen while the iPad Air has black bars on top and bottom taking up space....now that's lame.
