I went without and was super careful with my phone and still accumulated some hairline scratches on the screen. So the glass screen protector is 100% worth it. Doesn't affect visibility and is as smooth as butter

The issue is that the iPhone 6 has a more scratch prone glass. The 5, never seemed to incur scratches like the 6 can.

Agreed! My 5s has been to hell and back and still has no scratches...on the screen that is ;) the chamfered edges have scratches and dings. Lol

I'm careful with my phone, but it has slipped out of my hand a few times. I don't really like cases on my apple products :D

My 6 took a 6-7' fall this morning and landed on a steel grated step, bounced off, and then landed on the ground which was pretty rocky and 4' below the step it first hit! The aluminum back surprisingly has little damage and the screen is unscathed. One good dent on the back and two tiny nicks. I don't use cases or screen protectors.

I have never scratched the glass, but I have had small scratches in the screen's oleophobic coating. I only notice them with the screen off, or with very dark content. If you are worried, there are different kinds of screen protectors that feel differently to the touch.

well i mean they probably do scratch a little easier, it being bigger larger displays with also a slight curve on the edges, also more oleophobic coating=more fine scratches that are in the coating

I've never used any iPhone without protection except the original phone which despite being careful with, looked like hell in the end. I've found that no matter how careful I am, I'm going to inevitably drop my phone by mistake. I'm just not willing to take the risk. Never had a shattered screen and always use a screen protector.

This topic has been addressed many times. The screen has an Oleophobic coating that will scratch against keys or other objects. The glass itself is scratch resistant not scratch proof. So it really depends how you use your iPhone and where you store it. But make no mistake it will scratch.

How could you even tell if the scratch is just in the coating or the actual glass? Seems like it would be hard to tell but I don't know.

Also I'm not saying it's not possible to scratch the glass, I'm just saying it seems way more scratch resistant than any previous iphone I had. Even the aluminum on the back of mine looks just like the day I got it.

Someone mentioned I was stupid for using my phone naked. The phones were made to be used naked. Before smartphones I had never used a case ever and most people didn't then. I've tried cases a couple of times and I just can't stand them. It's just not how I bought the phone. I bought the phone so I could use it without needing a case. I've never had any issues using any of my iphones without a case., ever. It's not dumb, it's just how I prefer to use my phone.

Before smartphones, phones bodies were made in resilient plastics. Apple's latest in the 6 has glass that shatters and aluminum that dents and bends.

I'm considering getting a glass protector.

I have a hairline scratch on my 6 and it bugs me. I never had one on my 4, and only got a nick on that with a stupid fall at Comcast (blaming them :p ), and otherwise it was not intentionally babied.

But I would say this one is more scratch prone.

I just despise screen protectors.

I'm surprised though. Do we know what kind of glass Apple are using this time? Isn't it Gorilla Glass 3? I'd be really surprised if we've regressed from Gorilla Glass 2 which was used for the 5.

Never had a screen protector on the phone, and cannot see any scratches

iPhone 6 without any protector since day one, no scratches whatsoever.

As I did with my previous iPhone 4S, I'm going to use a screen protector in the June - mid September period, when I plan to do frequent trips to the sea: sand is probably the only thing that could easily scratch a Gorilla Glass.

You can't poll to determine if it's worth it to you. It's a call that you have to make. Whether others scratch their screens or not doesn't really mean anything with regard to whether you will or not.

You could, but you have to be able to filter out responses that don't meet your standard of judgement.

For me, I would look for responses like: "this is how I take care of my phone, and so far lot of/few/no scratches." I would avoid responses that provide no evidences like "the iPhone 6 is more scratch prone than blah blah blah because I said so"

And then you have to factor in the fact that people who have no problem don't often post here.

Here is my personal take on it. I never used a screen protector on an iPhone (used to on my Palms which are prone to scratches due to soft screen and the stylus). I kept my past iPhone for 2 years each. My 4 had a small scratch, and my 5 has a scratch on the coating surface, not the glass itself. Neither of them was a problem and both were invisible unless I looked for them. I took good care of my phones, and never let them in contact with hard objects like keys, coins, sandy beaches. I would take a scratch over a screen protector.

I have owned every iPhone except the 5. I was so careful to baby them and evey screen scratched. Despite this I've always been adamant about going naked. That is until the 6+
It's so slippery. I dropped it and it slipped out of my pocket the first week. A few days later I got the glass protecor from Zagg. 3 months it's flawlwss and you can't even tell it's there with a good installation. I also got the black leather Apple Case. So far so good.

Naked is good till it scratches, so why take the chance. Enough said

Some people do not mind having scratches on thier phone, for these there is no risk, though I am sure they would like to know how resistant the screen is to scratching. I have seen many black iPhones with silver coming through and thier users were very happy, som like the warn look, and to be honest it's probably better being in thier shoes and not stressing over getting the first scratch
