There is a huge gap internally in so many ways, not just the processing power or the RAM but feature wise between the 6 and 6s, that its not worth it in any way to get a 6 in 2018

6s is still a fantastic device, capable of pretty much anything the latest iPhones can do. I have one running the 11.3 beta and its buttery smooth and fluid. It supports AR, has a powerful CPU and GPU (2.5 years after it came out!), excellent camera, upgraded bluetooth and cellular radios, band support, the same 2GB of RAM in the iPhone 8, the same 2nd touch ID in the iPhone 8, the same 7000 series aluminum as the iPhone 7. Like its really in the same league as the 7 and 8 as a purchase, whereas the 6 is not.

The 6 is just too old and too far behind in the tech specs these days. If you still had a 6 since launch and were trying to get another year of life out of it, that's a different story...iOS 11 runs well enough and the support is there so why not hold on.

But if you're shopping for a new phone to get in early 2018, stay away from the 6 - don't waste your money. SE or 6s is as far back as you should go, and there are incredible deals that pop up for the 6s (I am in Canada as well...keep an eye out for 6s or 7 deals)

Oh yah touch ID is also way improved. I noticed it when I use my GF touch ID on her 6.

The iPhone 6 at this point would be a "Bad deal", even if one could save money. It's not worth the potential frustrations with how it performs with iOS 11, lag, and future iOS updates will not necessarily benefit the 6 as it ages . The iPhone 6 with 1 GB is a fairly exhausted phone with at this point, at least from reading on various threads and others voiced opinions, it's avoidable.

The iPhone 6 may not "Unusable" yet, but you can find a 6s for similar prices and the upgraded processor/2G of Ram will make a significant difference in performance. Again, I would stray away from the iPhone 6 and the 6s is a more logical purchase.
Again? You seem to like taking select snippets of my posts to disagree with - look here:
Agree, if usage is light and budget is important a 6 isn't a bad deal at all. Only thing I would say to OP is do look around and see if you can't find a 6s for near the same money. If you can't a 6 should be alright though. It's not like earlier iPhones where they became practically unusable on their later firmwares.
My suggestion that a 6s would be better if it can be found for around the same price.

I recently bought an iPhone X. After a month I sold it and went back to my 6+. I'm much happier, the battery lasts longer than an X and the screen is bigger. It may not be as long but it is wider and typing on the keyboard is easier.

In my opinion, buying a 6 at this point is almost a waste of money, for the reasons pointed out above.

The 1GB of RAM is a permanent limitation that will affect the user's experience significantly.

The battery almost certainly needs replacement, which is turning out to be a PITA in the US (multiple visits, extended waits).

THe rest of the hardware is relatively slow, especially the gen 1 TouchID hardware.

If you have to keep costs down, a 6S will provide a much better user experience and give you a year or two more in terms of future use. There's a big difference between the 6 and the 6S.

I have a 6 and it runs fine for basic use, email whatsapp, Facebook etc, I bought it second hand and for the price its OK, I would not buy one new though, as mentioned above the 6S is a big leap forward and more future proof.

Hi !
my wife is looking for a new phone and new cell plan. We've seen a Iphone 6 32gb at Walwart, with a 50$ (35$ + 15$ tab) plan with koodo (Canada) . That come with a 220$ walmart giftcard. I know prices in Canada are awfull !

She's not a big user, some text, web browsing, Spotify, Waze, some pics and such. Does it still a good deal for that old phone ? Budget is not very large and since she already have an Ipad air 2, as well stay with Apple.

Thanks !

Want to add - 6S and SE have basically the same internals, so although you said the SE is too small, you can read user comments on the two basically interchangeably.

Also - Waze on a 6 may be really frustrating. My wife insists on continuing to use her 6, but in addition to general comments on how slow it runs, she specifically finds Google Maps frustratingly slow to load and update. Waze might well be worse, and the nature of those two apps is such that running slowly can really be a PITA. Are you going to pull over and wait for the thing to update...?

An iPhone 6 or 6 plus runs great on iOS 9, not as good on iOS 10, and horrible on iOS 11. The phone is fine. It's the newer OSes that killed it.

SO what do you do if you were on ios 9, like me, and phone accidentally updated to 11.2.5, I swear I didn't click yes to update. I've been hitting no for over 1 year. Now I need a new phone since updating - it's that slow and lagging. Is this anything else I can do? This is wrong.

Buy a 6s for 100-200 online then install tvOS beta for iOS 11 and worry no more

No. I wanted to make my 6+ last 3 years, but it became so frustratingly slow after iOS 10. Apps and safari tabs refreshed constantly due to only 1GB of RAM. Definitely get the 6S or SE instead. The performance improvement is very noticeable and very necessary.

iPhone 6 is still good, if it runs iOS 11 then expect to experience how it's like to run an iOS 9 on a 4S. So you will know how the 4S users are so excited for the latest update but eventually dissapointed. iPhone 6 is slower than 5S with iOS 11 on almost every task due to MORE PIXELS to push since both phone are the same hardware.

Very, very few people are going to have an acceptable experience with an iPhone 6, especially on iOS 11. Most of them need batteries at this point, and even those that don't are crippled by the 1GB RAM. No one, absolutely NO ONE, purchasing an iPhone at this time should be buying anything older than a 6S. People who already own a 6 may or may not be unhappy enough to upgrade - it's a different question if you already own the phone than if you are looking at buying a new (new to you - which could be new, refurbished or used) iPhone.

My launch day iPhone 6 still is running OK with iOS 11. Some app's do hesitate at times. But otherwise, it's not a horrible experience. I have had no battery issues. And it still functions fine despite some of the occasional slowdowns.

That all being said, I would get an 6S if I were the OP. It is faster and has more RAM. And I believe it gets the 3D Touch as well.

I myself am still undecided if I will upgrade to a new phone this year, or wait it out until September. Anyway, even though my iPhone 6 is working OK, I'd get a newer phone if I were the OP.

My wife's iPhone 6 works okay with iOS 11, but she is a very light iPhone user. She uses her iPad a lot more. I think her only usage is phone call, calendar, iMessage, takes a few photos/videos every now and then, and some Web browsing and maps/directions. I think her biggest frustration is when the camera doesn't respond right away and she misses an opportunity to capture a photo of our kids. We are going to replace her battery to see if it helps, but it's not nearly as slow as my iPhone 6 was.

I also had an iPhone 6 but upgraded to the X in December. I use my iPhone a lot more than she uses hers. My battery had degraded to the point where it was definitely being throttled as her iPhone 6 is faster and more responsive than mine was before I replaced it. A battery replacement would have resolved that issue, but I wanted a new iPhone anyway.

I would try to get the 6s if you possibly can. Yes, the iPhone 6 will suffice for light use if one does not expect it to be super fast, but the 6s has a much better chance of providing a decent experience with iOS 12. She could avoid iOS 12 of course, but app updates are also going to mean slower apps regardless of the version of iOS used.

It’s not just about pushing the pixels, One GB of Ram limited the performance on the iPhone 6 more than anything.

Get the iPhone 6s. Do not get the 6 at any cost. I have one and it's unusable on iOS 11.
True, is just like the iPhone 4S in iOS 9. Or even the 6 on iOS 11 is worst than 4s on iOS 9. So slow like a turtle Except for the battery tho.

I am using a 6 and love it - works great - love the home button and it runs fine. My battery is not the greatest but I have been using it heavly since october 2015 - it is a work horse and I will need a new battery soon ( totally understandable) but it still gets through the day without a recharge (most days).

Great phone! IMHO

FWIW - if it comes with iOS 10 "be happy" and don't upgrade to iOS 11 - you can always to choose to do that down the road - it will perform better on iOS 10
Get a new battery install it and bam your phones like new again. I have a 6 replaced my battery last month and it’s amazing lasts forever now definitely all day.

Where are you seeing decent 6s for anywhere close to 100-200?
Swappa :)

Ok, at the suggestion of many people on here, I bought a used iphone 6s (2 gig of ram, 128 gig ($225) and now the phone runs as fast as my iphone 6 did on ios 9, actually it's much QUICKER! Unreal. What crazy is, iphone 6 has 1 gig of ram, iphone 6s has 2 gig, iphone 7 2 gig, iphone 8 2 gig, and iphone x has 3 gig. All the difference was in the ram! Also, 6s adds 3D touch, and adds the raise to wake feature, not on the 6, that works great with "hey siri".

So, if you have an iphone 6 on ios 11, get a used iphone 6s for cheap and the phone will FLY!

(some things I noticed with the 6s vs 6 is the vibrate isn't as strong, I'm assuming apple may have changed the vibration to be less than the 6, which was crazy loud)

Also, the 6s is bascially waterproof compared to the 6 I found out.

The 6s doesn’t have a water resistance rating and it’s not even close to being waterproof. The difference between the iPhone 6 and 6S, the 6S actually uses more adhesive, which made it appear more water resistant without the actual rating.

Correct, last week I read all about this and I've seen and read countless articles that compared to the 6, it is. I've also seen videos of 6s under water for over 30 min and nothing happens to it, but if the 6 would even get near water or a few rain drops, it would turn off and get messed up instantly. I know this because I had a 6, and that thing couldn't even get close to moisture before it flipped out. It was kinda sad, pathetic actually. Those gaskets added in the 6s around the IC chips, and inside case are awesome. I think apple did this and really told no one until they were sure and maybe could have people do beta testing, or did it for those that traded in without water damage like many many have had if it were a 6. If you drop a 6 in the toliet, it turns off, or will get screwed up asap, but not the 6s. That to me is night an day difference. Just an added bonus you get with the 6s that many don't know about.
