Hi !
my wife is looking for a new phone and new cell plan. We've seen a Iphone 6 32gb at Walwart, with a 50$ (35$ + 15$ tab) plan with koodo (Canada) . That come with a 220$ walmart giftcard. I know prices in Canada are awfull !

She's not a big user, some text, web browsing, Spotify, Waze, some pics and such. Does it still a good deal for that old phone ? Budget is not very large and since she already have an Ipad air 2, as well stay with Apple.

Thanks !

Just get an se, better phone overall. No the 6 is not worth it.

My daughter uses a 6, and is happy with it.

But, I would agree with others and say that I would get a 6s or SE over a 6, unless I get a really good deal on the 6.

I recently went from a 6s Plus to an SE due to not liking how big the Plus model was, but both phones performed great with iOS 10.

I have not tried the with iOS 11 due to being worried about bugs and performance issues.

The SE is much more powerful than the 6 and has more longevity. The 6 is also a step down in performance from the iPad Air 2. The 6 should only be selected if the screen is what’s important to you and you can’t get the 6s.

I take my iPhone 6 to work because I don’t want to drop or get my 7 plus wrecked. For basic stuff like text browsing Apple Music Twitter it’s fine. Google maps works perfectly forget power hungry games. It is an old phone but it doesn’t seem to stutter or freeze

I am using a 6 and love it - works great - love the home button and it runs fine. My battery is not the greatest but I have been using it heavly since october 2015 - it is a work horse and I will need a new battery soon ( totally understandable) but it still gets through the day without a recharge (most days).

Great phone! IMHO

FWIW - if it comes with iOS 10 "be happy" and don't upgrade to iOS 11 - you can always to choose to do that down the road - it will perform better on iOS 10

I bought the iPhone 6 32gb phone at wal mart last summer. It is slow and buggy on iOS 11.3. I also have a SE. The SE is so much more fluid and reactive. If you do not want a smaller phone go for the 6s.

I wouldn’t buy one today and expect to get much longevity from it, but to tell the truth, my 6 which I just replaced a few months ago was still working just fine on the latest OS version. I’m sure it would have served me well for at least another year, but I had the itch for something new.

Its honestly a step up on a 6s from a 6. Like for web browsing, the 6 keeps reloading when you move to a different tab but on the 6s, it stays in the memory. Its so annoying. Like if you are browsing on cnn, and you go to macrumors, then go back to cnn it reloads. That to me was a big difference in browsing. Go for the 6s. She's someone that will probably hang on to the phone for 4 years and the step from 6 and 6s is pretty noticeable.

No, it's not. Get a SE or a 6S if you must.

I think the OP’s wife would be able to get by okay with the 6 - going off what she will be using the device for.

That said, I’d still look a 6s if it fits in your budget.

Agree, if usage is light and budget is important a 6 isn't a bad deal at all. Only thing I would say to OP is do look around and see if you can't find a 6s for near the same money. If you can't a 6 should be alright though. It's not like earlier iPhones where they became practically unusable on their later firmwares.

I recently upgraded to the X from the 6. I bought it for the camera and the bezel free display, otherwise I haven’t really noticed that much improvement in day to day use, both are on ios 11. I don’t know if having a new battery helped.

You can get used, mint condition 6s for 200 or less and get the battery replaced for cheap or free by apple.

The iPhone 6 at this point would be a "Bad deal", even if one could save money. It's not worth the potential frustrations with how it performs with iOS 11, lag, and future iOS updates will not necessarily benefit the 6 as it ages . The iPhone 6 with 1 GB is a fairly exhausted phone with at this point, at least from reading on various threads and others voiced opinions, it's avoidable.

It's not like earlier iPhones where they became practically unusable on their later firmwares.

The iPhone 6 may not "Unusable" yet, but you can find a 6s for similar prices and the upgraded processor/2G of Ram will make a significant difference in performance. Again, I would stray away from the iPhone 6 and the 6s is a more logical purchase.

I bought an iPhone 6 and an SE last summer using those very discounted prepaid MVNO prices. The 6 runs fine if you can still buy it with iOS 10.3.3 and keep it from updating to iOS 11. My SE is on 11.1.2 and still runs better than the 6 that's on 10.3.3. Touch ID is unreliable for me on either device. Everything else is great.

If you can't get a 6 and keep it on 10.3.3. definitely go for the SE or 6s, but the 6s will be a lot more money.

the se is too small.....But thanks for the answer abouth the 6.

There is a huge gap internally in so many ways, not just the processing power or the RAM but feature wise between the 6 and 6s, that its not worth it in any way to get a 6 in 2018

6s is still a fantastic device, capable of pretty much anything the latest iPhones can do. I have one running the 11.3 beta and its buttery smooth and fluid. It supports AR, has a powerful CPU and GPU (2.5 years after it came out!), excellent camera, upgraded bluetooth and cellular radios, band support, the same 2GB of RAM in the iPhone 8, the same 2nd touch ID in the iPhone 8, the same 7000 series aluminum as the iPhone 7. Like its really in the same league as the 7 and 8 as a purchase, whereas the 6 is not.

The 6 is just too old and too far behind in the tech specs these days. If you still had a 6 since launch and were trying to get another year of life out of it, that's a different story...iOS 11 runs well enough and the support is there so why not hold on.

But if you're shopping for a new phone to get in early 2018, stay away from the 6 - don't waste your money. SE or 6s is as far back as you should go, and there are incredible deals that pop up for the 6s (I am in Canada as well...keep an eye out for 6s or 7 deals)
