This thread = SOMETHING BAD WAS SAID ABOUT APPLE! LET'S ALL RACE TO DEFEND THEM!

Do you people have a hive mind? Or have you all set notifications to 'Something said a bad thing about Apple' so everybody can race to defend? I've had my htc one m7 and m8 in my pockets for hours, never a bend. I've known plenty of people with samsung notes that never bend.

Kinda like drone eh....

The irony.

Another 'Roid Rage Tempest in a Teapot

When the first iPhone was released, we heard that the battery explodes. Turns out that some kiddies in the UK ran over their iPhone with a truck, and got burned when they picked it up and the battery blew.

When the iPhone 4 was released, the rumormongers created antennagate, with claims of dropped calls and poor performance. Yet, today, millions of people continue to use the iPhone 4 without a problem.

With the iPhone 5, we heard of some Korean woman who got electrocuted when she used her phone while it was plugged into a charger. The 'Roid ragers went into overdrive on that one. Turns out that the phone was plugged into a cheap knockoff charger, which shorted out and electrocuted her.

And now...(SIGH!!) Bendgate. I wonder if these "expert testers" realize that product disparagement can result in a civil suit, especially if published rumor causes a significant loss of sales. The video shows some guy applying an unknown amount of force to the iPhone until the structure fails, which has now gone viral. The test is completely unscientific and probably not reproducible under scientific testing.

A new era of benders?

It makes sense now...

Nice try, but in durability tests the m7 was thrown off a bus unto concrete. Go back to apologizing for Apple.

Who the f** would throw their phone from a bus? I guess in the end, thin and bending or fat and apparently you can throw it out bus windows. I choose thin since I'm not much into throwing my phone out windows or sitting on them.

but did those people have their phone in their back pocket or front pocket? to me, having your phone in your back pocket and expecting nothing to go wrong seems UNREASONABLE.

...... ok, i just read that the suit pants guy had it in his front pocket. i see that as reasonable use for some people. i don't wear tight pants, but i understand that some people do.

Front pocket while driving, where was the seatbelt? Even with my i5 in my front pocket I always make sure it's not under the lap belt.

This isn't a physics problem. It is a design choice. Lots of phablets don't have this physics problem.

I'll spend less time in the internet, you spend less time make stupid excuses for Apple. Deal?

Gold standards now include inconsistent and shifting white balance?

I'll be looking for that feature in my new D610.

Some slight camera tweaks are in tow in iOS 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 , obviously you are quick to dismiss this, updates will only further improve the camera, and we are talking about smartphone cameras here, not a DSLR, the new iPhone 6/6 Plus camera is quite dam great for it being a smartphone camera, king of them all , for now

Well I'm a newb both to these forums and to iPhone but I had to chime in. My iPhone 6 is bent. I don't put it into my front pocket ever but will put it into my back pocket. I'll occasionally sit on it when I get into my car but that is it.

The crazy thing to me is that I have done nothing different than I did with my Galaxy S4 or any other phone I've owned, all of them being android phones before. I was surprised and disappointed to see that. It was in a very solid Speck case, the same style case I've used on android phones.

I'll definitely change my behavior after this. No appointments at the Apple Store until Saturday. But between this and the issues with wifi and the internet it's been a disappointing first iphone experience.

I can't seem to upload the picture. It's on my twitter feed if you're so inclined which is the same as my username.

They are both around 2 mm thicker (9.3 and 9.35 for the m8), and that's counting the curved back which is made for gripping. They aren't supyer huge

Everyone here who loves Apple needs to confront the truth that the iPhone 6 Plus is getting bent in NORMAL, non-abusive, FRONT POCKET usage by people who have been carrying other smartphones, including older iPhones, every day for years without bending them. Failing to confront and acknowledge this truth will just help Apple ignore the issue and fail to learn a lesson from it and make future iterations of the iPhone more capable of handling real world intended usage.

Don't be victim blamers and Apple apologists. Don't vote up comments that imply the bending only happens to idiots who sit on their phones in their BACK pockets, because this ISN'T REALITY. Most people do not sit on their expensive smartphones like they might have done with their old Nokia bombproof dumbphones, and this is NOT how the iPhones are getting bent.

If you like Apple's products, do yourselves, Apple, and all the rest of us a huge favor and help Apple acknowledge their failure on the bending issue so they can make an even better iPhone next year that doesn't require an Otter Box hard case to survive normal daily FRONT POCKET usage. Or do you not actually want to have a better iPhone in the future?
So far, we only have a few anecdotes, and some suspicious videos. No need to grab your torches and pitchforks yet.

If this is really a widespread problem, then Apple will pay. People by the truckloads will be filing into Apple stores and demanding that Apple replace their bent iPhones, or give them their money back. That's an expensive problem, and Apple's engineers will work tirelessly to come up with improvements for a stealth update, so the yet-to-be-shipped iPhones will be more rigid.
If it's not that widespread, Apple may decide that any redesign can wait until next year's S model, or even the iPhone 7.

My iPhone 6+ is perfectly fine, even though I've been carrying it in my front pocket, and occasionally sitting down with it. The front pockets on the khaki pants I wore today are ridiculously short (I'm forever losing spare change), so when I sit down the phone digs into my leg a bit and I have to adjust the phone for comfort or take it out of my pocket. The ones I wore yesterday didn't give me that problem. I'm sorry your phone is bent, but mine isn't.

It's not reproducible but tons of pics of bent iPhones have been appearing. Just stick your head in the sand and keep apologizing.

No...

No, your post is mind-boggling.

I love threads like this because they really test the limits of Apple apologists. Carrying a smartphone in your front pocket is perhaps the most standard and expected of use cases. Yet, you're convinced that it's "mind boggling" that some average Joe didn't figured out what Apple apparently also hadn't figured out. I mean, if this limitation so obvious then Apple should have known about it and warned people right? Or are we to believe that Apple didn't expect people would ever try to put their smartphone in their front pocket, like every other smartphone owner has been doing since smartphones were invented? Which is it?

Let me see if I can remember how Apple usually reacts to these embarrassing situations: "you're holding it wrong!"

I never mentioned anything about Apple or the iPhone 6/6+ anywhere in my post regarding the use-case of the front pocket. First off, I said that this would happen [by the laws of physics] given any smartphone that is made of a malleable metal such as aluminum and especially when it is paired with such a thin device. Nowhere did I defend Apple - nor would I ever feel the need or desire to do that. All I said was that it is amazing to me that people cannot understand that this would happen by putting pressure on a device [no matter a cellular device, a calculator, etc] with such characteristics. Read posts before you start ******-talking on what you think the author means.

Also, I am not saying that this should happen with a cell phone, because obviously we would like for it to be able to withstand whatever pressure we want to put onto it (which normal can range dramatically depending on the person), but materials and designs have limits. If they don't fit you, find one that does.

I dunno. The difference between 5s and 6 is huge for me. Kind of relative I guess.

My alt phone if iPhone 6 sucks would be the new moto x. But so far still loving the iPhone 6+

I ordered the iPhone 6 Plus and get it tomorrow. I also ordered a case for it and am looking at it right now. I've been holding it and playing with it and I gotta tell you, I really like the size it turns out (I was sure I'd want the 6 and that I was going to exchange it).

So here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to order Apple Care and then use the phone as I normally would, for up to 2 years. If nothing goes wrong, great. If it warps, I get a new phone, and I demand that I don't pay a cent for it since it will be used the way it should be. I'll use a slim-ish case, cause I always have, always will.

I've had a 4S the last few years and am one of those "idiots" who wears it in my back pocket half the time that I'm on foot, at least during warmer weather when I don't have a jacket with the bigger pockets on me. I don't know why I prefer the back pocket but I think it's cause it looks better on me that way (I don't want the bulk in my front I guess?!). But when I get in the car, I habitually take it out so I can see and hear it better or charge it etc. So I don't sit on it although on occasion I forget to take it out and it's down low but not under me or not far under me anyway, between me and the back of my seat - not so far that it could or has ever hurt it. Again, it's the 4S though - MUCH more durable phone, and it's never bent even a little.

In the meantime who knows - maybe they'll recall them (?). Probably not. But I really like the size of the 6+ in my hands!

p.s. I guess I'll be your back pocket guinea pig, when it fits. I'll put a case on it and use it as I usually do, which is to wear it in the back some of the time (when with a jacket) but not sit on it. I'll make a point to always remove it before sitting, or it won't count.

Well according to this board
1 - since it bent you must be a fat 'Murican
2 - it's your fault because phones are not supposed to go into pockets, common sense brah, I mean who does that
3 - you're a liar because there are only 2 pictures and 1 video of bent phones going around and they were made by Samsung

Well the iPhone's are flat, these are curved back phones that are like the small iMacs so they look smaller then they are. They are made like that to be able to be held better

Also the m7 thrown was a stress test on YouTube. It took a lot to crack the screen.

I purchased a new iPhone 5S Space Grey 64GB today! It will be coming in next week! Glad I waited! LOL!

Careful putting it in your back pocket. Depending on where you live, it can be easily stolen given its size and the fact that it will stick out of your pocket a little.

If it hasn't been said I will say it. I think the real question we should be asking is not will it bend but will it blend?

people on here keep talking physics etc....and that is an engineers job to design something to withstand an intended force....

no one should be giving apple a pass

I think it's less about giving a pass and more about common sense. I have carried my 6+ in my pocket for hours every day since I got it last Friday. This includes in cars, getting up and down at work and even lounging on the couch. I have no bend in my phone. If the phone is going to bend it has still been shown to require reasonable force. If you put the phone in your pocket and notice you can barely move because of the pressure from the phone being too tight of a fit, yet you keep it there and decide to sit, lay, or do whatever with it in there, that shows lack of some common sense in my opinion. This isn't anything like the antenna problem of the iPhone 4 days, that was a true defect. This is not a defect, rather a weakness of the phone, no different than the glass screen possibly breaking if you drop it.

uh did you see the note 3 test

The note is made with a combination of plastic and metal.

Thst was not done by jeans. That ish is messed up.

The guy is forcing with his *fingers*. Fingers are tools meant for precise work and they're not exactly the most powerful part of your body. Moreover, a lot of people have surprisingly little force in their fingers or do not know how to use that force properly - I'm always amazed at how many people are unable to open a bottle or a can.
The legs, however, contains some of the most powerful muscles of the body (hip flexor, quadriceps...). You can push more than 150kg with a leg without a sweat - try doing that with your fingers!

The level of force that this guy is forcing to get out of his fingers muscles is matched tenfold and more by your legs everytime you take a step or climb a stair and yet you don't even feel like you're struggling (at least I hope for you). Which means that you can apply that level of force to your iPhone with your legs without even being conscious that you're making an effort.
