I'm not defending anything except for my choice to not keep a phone in my pocket while sitting (front or back, still puts pressure on the phone, not to mention my leg). I find it uncomfortable. Hence my answer to the original question, which was would 6+ owners be exchanging for a 6.

If the 6+ doesn't fit the lifestyle of certain people (ie, those who feel they must carry a phone in their pockets no matter how much stress they place on the phone), then clearly they should purchase a phone that is designed for that. Or use a honking big case.

Having said that, there are plenty of people in the forum, men and women, who are very happy with their 6+ and not having problems. People just don't have as much interest in the non-controversial.

Fair enough. By the way, I wasn't accusing you of wrongly defending them, just that I'm not one to come to their defense when I don't believe they deserve it.

I had a 6 plus and a 6. I decided the 6 plus was just too big for me... so I took that one back, and I really love the 6. I know that everyone is saying, "oh if you try to break something, it breaks," and that is certainly the game everyone on the internet is playing now, but the fact remains that the early benders from this past weekend... those were just ordinary people who had it in their pockets.

but did those people have their phone in their back pocket or front pocket? to me, having your phone in your back pocket and expecting nothing to go wrong seems UNREASONABLE.

...... ok, i just read that the suit pants guy had it in his front pocket. i see that as reasonable use for some people. i don't wear tight pants, but i understand that some people do.

I haven't giggled as much as I have with this whole extreme sitting bit... :D

I think there might be a split between people that would take a fatter phone with no protruding camera and a stronger body or a phone much thinner and lighter but with potential to bend and a camera that sticks out. I like the latter, but that's because I don't sit on my phone.

I agree. Either way, I'd expect something that was structurally sound. I'm sure Apple knew of the possibility that the 6+ would bend under certain circumstances, but the mistake they made is assuming that more of their customers (or sheep) would be forgiving and tolerant. I own a 6, but if I had a 6+ there is no way that I would think that Apple would sell a product that would get damaged in a manner that 99.9% of people who own phones carry. I would think that they would somehow find a way to give the thin profile and material better support.

Maybe

Wouldn't any other phone just break and crack the screen when someone tries to break it that hard? I don't get the publicity behind this?

Next up... Iphone breaks when stepped on or ran over with car.

You think it's normal that a phone bends in a pocket?

Sad part is you're not even a stockholder

Yeah, but understand also, that out of 10m people only one made it on the news. And almost a week later. I'm sure there are more, but I would think this would be a much wider spread issue.

First off, you don't know the whole story. The only publicity this has gotten is a video of a guy that almost broke his fingers trying to bend the phone and a picture of a bent phone that someone claims was in their pocket. I have mine in my pocket and was at the gym doing lounges. No got bent. My guess would be the guy sat on it while in his back pocket. I've seen plenty of phones break this way. Break not bend though.

And I am a shareholder. Invested before iPhone #1 came out. not much, but enough right now :)

Now what I'm surprised at is no one is mentioning just how crazy buggy iOS 8 is so far. Obviously the bricking of 8.0.1, which they recalled. That's crazy. Not sure how that went through QA

im so tired with this ,why can people just take care of their phone, its like if you cut your arms it will fall off...just dont cut it off
Poor example..it's more like your arm falling off if you rise it..phone getting bent and staying bent, permanently deformed by normal use is not acceptable, simple as that.

read through all the pages of this thread...it is a design flaw that a phone will bend during normal use.....I consider putting it in your pocket normal..... I have a 6 plus on the way.... looking at different cases etc because I do want it.... however it goes without saying this may effect resale value.... especially if apple halts production to implement some kind of reinforcement..... its all kind of up in the air what apple might do....

i dont know...it really does have me second guessing my purchase..... if this really is a design flaw apple would probably be better off to pull the plug now instead of waiting

This is only a story because it is an iPhone. It's a product hyped up in the media and sold 10m in the first weekend. That makes it a public interest so anything about it makes news. There were some issues with Galaxy S4 screens breaking when it was first released and there were major camera issues with the S5 release this year, but since the brand value isn't as high and the product isn't nearly as hyped up or well known, nobody runs the story. Pretty much everyone knows what an iPhone is, even those who don't own one so they might watch a story on them. The news anchor announcing there is a story coming up on a defect in the new Samsung Note 4 simply doesn't hold the interest.

hoping apple will respond one way or the other tomorrow....after all when it gets on the national news at the very least you have a PR problem to deal with

Put any device to the last test, will be the most robust.

By then, you will most likely run out of your bend energy.

Another bullet point of good reasons for me picking the iPhone 6. :)

Nothing against the 6 Plus of course. Just happy that I made the right choice, personally. I'm a small guy so a 6 Plus would probably experience more stress in my jeans.

or the ladies will think you aren't that small after all.

(oh wait you didn't mean small small, my bad)

No they wont.watch his other videos, similar tests on note 3,htc one m8,iphone 5s and others.only 6 plus was deformed.

your right that its only a big story because its an iPhone.....but I cant give apple a pass if the chassis is really weak enough to bend during normal use.... and that is what is being said.... has little to do with the guys video bending it on purpose

Good point. I'm thinking there will be other found issues.

people on here keep talking physics etc....and that is an engineers job to design something to withstand an intended force....

no one should be giving apple a pass

Oh please he is not even trying. I don't see his hands shaking like they did with the iPhone 6. Also he did it 3-4 times before it was seriously bent. I'm sure if he kept trying like he did with the 6 at least one would break. I'd love to post a video and crack break all other phones. It's really easy, especially if you try more than 2-3 times. The last one would be tough as I'm sure I'd be tired by then.

Not even sure why I'm protecting the 6+ so much. I guess I'm really happy. It's got everything I wanted. Bigger screen, better battery, better camera, thinner and a false sense of lightness. Screen is beautiful and feels like there is no space between the digitizer and the actual LCD.

I don't get it .... folks are putting their phones in their back pocket and then sitting on them? I mean did you expect to buy an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy made of tungsten carbide shell?

Let's be a bit practical ... buying Applecare+ does provide extended warranties of all kind, but it does not warranty lack or loss of commonsense.

Are we now trying to benchmark cell phones based on our butt posture or how hard we crash land on sofas as couch potatoes :D

It appears to me that he really lays into the iPhone and almost faking it with the others.

That's why folks are saying it should be done using some kind of measuring tool that will show the exact amount of pressure being used. Also it would allow for common points of contact. it's not really accurate if you grab one phone with thumbs in the dead middle and the others are more towards the ends. and so on
