Have had the 6+ for nearly two weeks and must say that the TouchID has worked exceptionally well.Would say it works 99.5% of the time, first time.Literally only on a couple of occasions have I had to try it twice.

It is strange, I came from the note 3, which I still have, and I find myself resting my finger on the home button on the Note expecting it to open, almost as much as I keep pressing the right side of the iPhone bezel to go back!!

Not buy a 6plus so the finger ID works! WTF:mad:

My 6 only works 3 of 5 times on the average and it is still not worth the trouble to use.

Did I say buy a 6plus for it to work? Don't know why you are having problems. I had the 5S worked fine, used the 6 for a week worked totally fine. Maybe you should bring it into Apple genius so they can figure out what's wrong.

OP, I posted another thread about this same problem. I did 2 things that were suggested and I have had a lot better luck with Touch ID: 1). I used my right index finger to capture fingerprint for all 5 of the allowed fingerprints. 2). I use lots of handcream and I have been keeping the home button wiped off. I will also replace my screen protector when I finally get home tomorrow. My current screen protector is not on quite straight near the home button.
Like you I am reluctant to exchange hardware if I can avoid it, so you might want to try these strategies also. I am having much better luck with Touch ID already.

The 6 was a GREAT improvement over my 5S but it still fails one out of five times! That is enough where I no longer will use it. I have registered my thumb in three of the five registers and it still fails 1-2 times out of five.

Not going to return it as I do not think there is a thing wrong with my iPhone 6.

My 6 plus touch id works about 99.9% of the time. Your 6 should too. I'm thinking yours has a faulty sensor.

Mine works more often than not, but it still fails enough to be frustrating. Most of the time it'll only fail once and then work the second time, but on a couple of occasions it's just failed to scan five times in a row and then made me put the PIN in.

I'm really close to changing back to PIN-only and setting the 4-hour delay (that's how I had my 4S set up).

this is going to sound weird but do you bite your nails?

my friend said his Touch ID was useless and come to find out (after like 3 months of research) it was because he would bite his nails and take a layer of skin off the tip of his thumb and other fingers. if you bite off that skin or calis (sp) it'll mess with your Touch ID

----------

also any kind of liquid messes it up. grease, oils, water, etc

I've had my 6 since Sunday, my Touch ID works superbly. Recognises first time 99% of the time. I didn't have a 5S so it's really my first time using it. I always kept my old phones unsecured because I hated entering a passcode every time I unlocked it but there's no chance I'm turning Touch ID off.

Hi. I bought an iPhone 6 on launch weekend and overall I'm very pleased with it however I have terrible problems with touch id.

I set the phone up a new when I got it and it's on the latest software 8.0.2 but the touch id is terrible.I've registered a few fingers and even tried deleting them and doing it again but it still is useless.

I can successfully register fingers and unlock the phone maybe once or twice but then it's like the phone forgets them and I get the try again message until I end up having to enter my pin.

Anyone any advice? I came from an iPhone 5 so this is my first time with touch id.

I don't have any issues with mine. Works much faster than the 5s did

iPhone 6, Touch ID, near perfect. I would say it misreads my fingerprint once or twice a day, that's it. And usually it's because I have it placed weird on the scanner.

Mine works awesome. Half the time my phone is already unlocked by the time I get it out of my pocket.

get a new thumb :):):)

I exchanged my 16gb for a 64gb 6. The 16gb Touch ID worked maybe 2 out of 15 tries. I reset the phone, redid the prints, nothing helped. The 64gb Touch ID works pretty much every time (even if there's smudges over the button!). So I think some phones may have wonky Touch ID buttons.

I chatted with an apple tech when I had the 16gb and they said take it to a store and if they see the same problem, they'd replace it.

That definitely sounds like yours is defective. I've had no problems with my 6 Plus. I registered 5 of my fingers and the Touch I.D. is spot on every time without hesitation.

I initially set up my index fingers. Then later added my thumbs. As soon as I added the third and fourth digits I started having problems. Thumbs would work a couple of times, then it wouldn't recognize them no matter how I positioned them. I finally deleted all, set up my index fingers again, and everything works perfectly.

Iphone 6 touch id is useless

You can also repeat same finger(s) as this can help. If your fingers are greasy or wet it won't work. I also suggest going to an Apple Store as yu may have a faulty ph. I have had no issues with my iPhone 6 plus. I did scan each finger twice (4 fingers ) 8 scans

If you go into Settings -> Passcode you'll see the Finger number highlight that you're holding on the Touch ID sensor. Try doing variations of that finger, this should improve Touch ID :)

This! My friends with the 5s all put in both their thumbs in multiple different "versions". When I get my 6 I plan on doing at least one of my toes as well :D

Works absolutely fine for me. Amazed how responsive it is, actually. Feels better than the previous generation. I haven't had any misreads or failed attempts yet.

Works excellently over here.

All I can say is remember to record each tap at different positions on the sensor, as well as at different angles. I know some people record every single tap in the same position. It doesn't work that way.

Touch ID works perfectly for me

Very handy when i ate some buffalo wings or any other finger food.

Also love it that i dont have to type in a passcode or apple ID password to download apps

been using it since the 5S, i dont know what you're talking about
