iPhone 6 Touch ID is useless

I was sanding yesterday with a rough grade paper and funnily enough none of my fingerprints worked with Touch ID lol. My fingers were a state afterwards. Not a problem though because the pass code is still an option and today it's back to normal. If you are a professional sander though, this could be an issue :p

only time my print doesn't register is if it's wet. Other than that it's idiot proof. If you have that many problems with it you're probably dealing with a defective sensor.

Hi. I bought an iPhone 6 on launch weekend and overall I'm very pleased with it however I have terrible problems with touch id.

I set the phone up a new when I got it and it's on the latest software 8.0.2 but the touch id is terrible.I've registered a few fingers and even tried deleting them and doing it again but it still is useless.

I can successfully register fingers and unlock the phone maybe once or twice but then it's like the phone forgets them and I get the try again message until I end up having to enter my pin.

Anyone any advice? I came from an iPhone 5 so this is my first time with touch id.

You've either set it up wrong or have a faulty sensor.

Mine's been 100% so far. There's nothing wrong with Touch ID.

Hi,

I am Gyles from Bangladesh. I am newbie here. I can understand your feelings. I was suffering for this kind of problems. If touch screen don't work nothing to do. It's has gone damage. Change touch pad otherwise you can't use it.

If you are not satisfied with it you can always bring it in to the Apple Store if you live near one. I know it must be frustrating but it is still under warranty.

Have you done different angles of your finger while setting up...? Or did you just lift and put it back in the exact same postilion...? Read those instructions carefully... Touch ID has failed me only when my fingers are wet... Never in normal conditions...

That's a cute story but isn't likely to be completely true.

Good point -- I was thinking this was an awfully convenient circumstance...

If you're concerned about someone who has access to your person while you're asleep, reboot your phone at bedtime. It then requires a passcode.

As for the police getting into your phone, they don't need to wait for you to fall asleep, they can legally demand your fingerprint already. If you weren't able to power-off your phone before they confiscated it, stall them for 48 hours (or whatever the timer is that then requires passcode.

I wonder what the legal implications are if you have a trusted person who, upon your arrest, goes into your icloud account and puts it into lost mode or remote-wipes your phone? Seems the wipe would potentially be a destruction of evidence, but lost mode seems to force a passcode and not allow touchID... The latter could be considered a reasonable precaution on the basis of disabling ApplePay since you're no longer in possession of your phone... :)

You probably need to wash your hands once in a while.

The voice of reason....

I have the exact same issues. Now on my second phone. Does the same thing. I think it's my prints, though I have no idea why it works for an hour or two before it stops working. Both phones did the same with every finger. I think that's what happens maybe when you have bad prints. I have terribly dry skin and occasional eczema issues. I've given up and just use passcode for Apple pay. This will also prevent the home button from getting gross - silver lining. I use assistive touch instead of physical home button. Maybe one day they will improve the technology for people like me.

My two cents about it....
It could be an hardware issue, for sure, but for some people I just think it's not.
Maybe Touch ID just doesn't works for everyone. People have different fingers, different prints and different skin.
In my case it works almost 100% of the times. Yes, 100%.

Everyone posting how "well" their Touch ID works does nothing for the OP. While my 6 and 6+ worked better than my 5S, it still does not work well enough to use it on a daily basis. This is a smile fact for some people.

I'm on my second iPhone 6s, the first one would not remember my print after a day. the second one is doing the same thing. Time and time again I redo the print and it works fine for a day or two then does not work.

It has to be a iOS 9 bug cuz my 6s was working fine since the day it came out and now it's not the same
