My friend said to just put any model in the preorder form for pick up in store. Then show up and tell them what I really want. I don't know, sounds a bit risky and dishonest...

My finger is hovering over the order button as we speak. That shipping date quote is scary, though.

Where are you at? If you really need it, you can queue @ your local Apple Store. A little troublesome, but assuming that flipping is less rampant since Apple has official launches in China, it may be not as bad as last year.

Well, I reserved the 64gb Space Gray for September 25th at 2 pm. We will see what happens. I hope I don't get there and tell them I need a 128gb Rose Gold and they laugh at me, and then point to the exit, lol.

I am in Atlanta. I wonder if I can just show up when the store opens. 2 pm reservation sounds like all the Rose Gold will be gone by then. l I have never bought an iPhone on launch day before.

I'd be pretty afraid that that very thing will happen, TBH. I mean, I'm assuming they have to base inventory on what people have actually ordered--they can't just infer what you might need when you come in to pick up.

Were it just the color that was different between what you ordered and what you want, you might stand a chance, but you're wanting a totally different capacity as well. I hope for your sake that they're able to make it work, but I certainly wouldn't count on it. :(

Yes that might be a better idea. Launch day tends to be very chaotic at Apple Stores, and popular models might be sold out quickly.

Community Wide Red Alert.

Today Monday my best buddy of 20 years called me furious, I though he had been in a fight,

guess, what his Pre-order Status changed from 9-25 to 10-16

breaking news not widely reports some reports begging to come in off Twitter this may explode. Check your Status

Please stop. Red warning and all. Nothing to see here folks

If my pre-order slipped backwards (especially since I have a 10/16-21 with my Space Gray 6s+ 128Gb), I'd be tempted to cancel it and take my luck with the AT&T store stock. I have a few of them around me.

(Since I'm an Unlimited data user, I have to use AT&T rather than Apple.)

I know :( Rose Gold wasn't even an option anymore when I logged in at midnight on the 12th.

I was at the 6 launch last year and someone ahead of me in line tried to get something other than their 16gb they preordered and they basically said, as nicely as possible, no.

Since this Apple Store is actually inside a mall, I am hoping the line won't be that long. Lol, just my luck people will be camped out outside the mall waiting for it to open.

Should I just place the order online and hope that shipping time frame is a fluke? Decisions, decisions. First world problems.

I have been to iPhone releases at the Apple Store in the Lenox mall and they're not fun. A lot of scalpers, too.

You will not be able to get another different phone, they reserve the exact one you ordered and have your name on it waiting for you. Your best bet now would just be to line up early in the morning and try to get it that way, or just order and wait until the shipping date it now says.

Man I was in that line in Lenox last year and it was crazy.....

That was largely due to flippers selling on the Chinese black market (directly or indirectly). iPhones are practically status symbols in China. This should be less of an issue this year since Apple Stores are now selling directly in China.

Don't listen to this guy. He's a new MacRumors user who has been trolling the board for the past few days. Nothing at all to see here...

Err... you do realize they're gonna verify the model you pre-ordered in their system, right?

Which is why I did not really want to go that route. I am just going to get to my store early and buy it in person. I can't risk that long wait time buying online. I need an iPhone for business purposes.

The night before, check to see if a queue is beginning to form outside the store you want to visit. I don't know how crazy it is in your area, but you might be forced to wait overnight. Hopefully that isn't the case.

iPhones are shipped air cargo from China to Alaska, where inventory is offloaded, scanned, redistributed and reloaded, then flown to US continental distribution centers.. There the items are scanned and distributed further down the delivery chain to eventually your doorstep.

They're not sent on a giant slow boat from China, storms in the Pacific are irrelevant.

The one I am going to is inside a mall. I wonder if the city would let people camp out outside a mall. I don't think they would in my area. But you never know.

Either way, I am not that desperate to camp overnight, and I have a baby. So no camping out for me!

What does in most areas mean. We don't see that message in the states.

It's just because we have a few outlying islands that are part of the UK but aren't big enough to have their own mail infrastructure so generally it will come through the UK but add a day or two to shipping times. Not uncommon at all for those people to be told they'll be waiting a few days longer or even have to pay more for shipping to them.
