Nice way to misrepresent opinion here.

About time! Of course there are the stubborn folks who want apple to stick to 8 mp forever because they think megapixels don't matter.
The problem is Megapixels aren't everything and unfortunately some simply don't understand this.

As for features if Apple gave me a choice between mega pixels and a real optical zoom I'd take the optical zoom if it was of high quality.
But iPhone 6s base storage should start at 32gb with 2gb ram if this is true.
That to me is bigger news than the camera. Especially the 2GB of RAM.
More megapixels means larger photo size. Unless they add an option like on galaxy phones where you can downgrade the photo quality so it takes up less space.

Which makes no sense if you believe more megapixels are important. Seriously if you want megapixels you want to keep the photos at the highest quality level possible. If storage space is such a big concern then why bother with more megapixels? In the end you either know what to do with them or you don't.

OK, so this is getting tiring.

Reality is the GS6 is a better camera than even the iphone 6 plus on objective dimensions.
http://www.dpreview.com/articles/53...e-report-samsung-galaxy-s6-edge-tops-rankings

The other argument, that you're somehow better than most in your particular/peculiar tastes, is by definition, a biased position - which puts your argument about others on ironic and shaky ground.

I was the first to post dpreview's review in this very thread, been reading them a very long time.

Anyway, that argument about the GS6 would have more weight if Fandroid hadn't touted that Note all versions and Galaxies whatever where all superior to a Iphone no matter what since forever. This kind of declaration just grates because it is absolutely false.

The Iphone 6+ is still viewed as the best all around camera/video shooter by Dpreview (because processor assist to taking pictures, video is better in the Iphone, it takes a hell of a lot of space on the custom A8).

People have been touting the meme that Apple is "behind" on the camera because it doesn't have 20MPx and 4K or whatever when the amount of details in all but broad daylight outside shots were less for those smart phones.

Apple doesn't work with specs (that's Samsung's game); Apple waits till the time is right to upgrade something.

Right now, seemingly, sensors and post processing have improved enough that what you lose in getting smaller pixels is compensated by up to a point. I doubt very much that its compensated enough for 16 MP to actually matter (or be positive) at 90% of lighting conditions people take shots; but a 12MPx sensor may now be a viable target. So, Apple may do it.

As for 4K, the quality you'll get from a smart phone is not very good and you'd be better off taking your films in 1080P for now. Smart phones barely get 1080P right in good light.

But this is Tim Cook's Apple. He's a numbers guy. Bottom line guy. He's definitely not a visionary. A visionary would have known that the iPhone 6 Plus needed 2GB of RAM. But when you focus on the bottom line, you get the worst iPhone experience I've ever had (reloads, reboots, crashes, etc.)

Yep, definitely only Tim Cook, and totally not a single other of the 100,000 people working at :apple:.

Actually it sounds like people have reading comprehension problems here.

They were always saying samsung and other phone makers were adding useless features and that there was no need for such high quality photos and videos.
What people seem to not understand here is that megapixels by themselves are not a measure of picture quality. The current iPhones produce very high quality pictures, this has been demonstrated repeatedly in testing by credible photography sites. Many of the 12 megapixel cell phone cameras have produced mixed results at best. It will be very interesting to see if Apple can deliver a 12 megapixel camera that actually takes better pictures than the current one.
But like you said once apple does it it's like the best thing sine sliced bread. Sometimes I feel like folks on this forum have short term memory problems.

The problem is completely ignorant posts from people with little understanding of sensors and optics. You can go to a coma only like Nikon or Cannon and buy all sorts of digital SLR type cameras and some of the more expensive ones have very low relative pixel counts. You buy the DSLR with the sensor suitable for the task at hand.

In Apples case the simply have supplied the best sensor technology at the time that meets their needs. This is not a big deal at all as has been noted iPhone delivers very good photos in a wide array of use cases. Not many cell phone cameras can say that.

With every "S" update there is less excitement. The camera should get a ton of love this time around. 4K would be an amazing addition.

I would also like to see some software that can recreate something that resembles the "GoPro" wide-angle effect.

.

A "S" version of an iPhone with an improved camera..... I'm shocked by these analysts.... Amazing insight and ability to see the future..... WOW!

I think all the regulars on MR qualify as senior analysts when it comes to apples road map.!

As I've long posted in :apple:TV 4K rumor threads, the iPhone (and probably the iPad too) will need to be shooting in 4K BEFORE we get a 4K :apple:TV. As far as I'm concerned, the best piece of this thread (after 2GB RAM) is the potential for a 4K :apple:TV as soon as with- or soon after- the release of a 6S.

If they don't include 4k video, then they are truly out to lunch. They need to provide something better than what the competition has. A 12MP sensor seems to be a little low. It should be at least 16MP 16:9 if not 16 4:3 and even higher at 16:9.

For full disclosure, I also have a Samsung S6 64GB in addition to my iPhone 6+. I also have an Alienware laptop running windows 8.1 on top what what's in my signature.

Apple still has the edge on their phone competitors on battery life in standard operating mode. However, they do have the ability to turn on slow power consumption with only a few taps.

Apple needs to catchup on the video and photo side of things as well as being able to customize power management more easily.

I hope the 4K toggle is in the camera app itself and not buried in settings like the 60 FPS toggle. 4K recording would be nice to have but it is just going to eat up device and iCloud storage.

Why don't you just buy the 128GB model phone and more iCloud storage? Are you like poor or something?

Love,

Apple

i've got an app that shoots 2K video on my iPhone 5S - you have to download the stored footage by entering your ip address into your desktop browser in order to DL off the phone via wifi... it looks fantastic, i wonder if some kind of Apple spin on this method could mean you store the footage via iCloud OR continuity on your mac... then the 16gb limit would still not matter.

i personally think apple will go the other way (even as tech-heads scream and cry for more base storage to suit the needs they'd have IF they were even the types to buy a base model phone)... meaning i think we'll see a base model iPhone one day with ZERO local storage. cloud computing folks... it ain't just a river in egypt.
Until US carrier internet becomes truly unlimited we won't see that. Same in the home w many that have caps on their download. So maybe in 2030 when the iamaphonedroid comes out.

A;so, you need a good amount of storage for those temp files anyways.

What gets me with 4K camera's is that most screens cannot show 4K as there is too many pixels - if its for zoom, would it be better to improve the zoom features on the camera itself also?

There are an increasing number of 4K television sets. I saw one at Target for about $1,000. They won't sell REALLY well until there's a lot of content support. If Apple is developing a 4K iPhone, then an Apple TV that supports 4K video isn't far behind. Then comes the iTunes Store movies that will be in 4K for another $5.

And just one more thing: The Apple Television. OK, not really. But pulling that out of 2015 left field would be neat.

4k is being pushed down consumers throats because television sales are dwindling. 3D was supposed to be the next thing to put money in the pockets of the television industry, but it failed miserably. They've now moved on to 4k (UHD) as their next transition in television production. Everybody THINKS they want 4k, because of the marketing, but they haven't actually had to deal with 4k file sizes, the lack of ecosystem to support 4k, and the barely perceivable difference when casually watching 4k content.
As a professional video producer for 19 years, transitioning from analog SD to digital SD to digital 16x9 to HD, this is the most trivial transition yet. At NAB this year they were already pushing 8k hard, which is going to be the next step to try and pull more money out of consumers. I've got a few professional level ($35,000 each) 4k cameras, and they're really only good for shooting a wide shot and then cropping multiple HD images out of the one 4k shot.
I agree with most of it, but as someone that has a projector with a 100inch screen, I would love me some 4k. I think in 5 years the headache that's associated with 4k will be a lot less.

USB Type-C looks to become the next standard over the coming years. In addition to 2GB RAM, a 12-megapixel camera & the other items mentioned, I'd love for the next iPhone to come with a USB Type-C port instead of the Lightning port. Apple are already using it as the ONLY port on the new MacBooks & will hopefully include it on the other Macs as well. Google have said that they will be supporting to format on their phones and while I don't think that Apple should do it because Google are going to do it, I think Apple should do it because it's a good idea

Seems like the top comments were mugged by apple haters. I'm an apple fan but I'm not excited to capture 4k video. I don't want to store big file sizes home videos. I don't even want to collect 4k movies/tv shows currently (if it's available) even I do have 12tb NAS.

In all likelihood I'm probably making a switch to a GS6 this week. I'm mostly interested in the camera and fast charge on it. I'm not convinced the "user experience" on the iPhone 6S is going to be competitive. This camera will likely not be as good as Sammies and I worry about the battery suck from the new iphone hardware and processing and the GS6 seems to have this figured out. Am I wrong?
The GS6 gets pretty average battery life. Most users don't get over 2-3 hours SoT in a 12-16 hour day. That's why Samsung added the quick charging and both PMA and Qi wireless charging standards in the phone. The camera software is amazing, no doubt, but the inherent Samsung lag is present after you've been using it for a couple weeks and have a good number of apps loaded. Stock is where it's at if you want speed, but stock Android has terrible camera software :(

I think i better start learning Chinese.

Then some of these rumors have been way off the mark.

I love reading all the love for 4k and 12mp when the competition has been doing it for years and now all of a sudden its a new holy coming when apple finally does it.

I also read the 6s is getting the same modem the gs5 had lol all the hate when competition had it and nothing but love when apple finally catches up.

They were always saying samsung and other phone makers were adding useless features and that there was no need for such high quality photos and videos. But like you said once apple does it it's like the best thing sine sliced bread. Sometimes I feel like folks on this forum have short term memory problems.

Wow - exaggerate much? By my count the response has been mostly neutral. By the time I got to grkm3's post I counted 4 pro, 2 against, and 14 talking about colors, disbelief, etc. And for the record, 12MP on a tiny sensor is useless and noisy.
