From my experience the phone takes time to settle down. I had bad lag initially but after couple days all gone dont bother returning it. Give time.

Poll fail.

I'm getting some serious lag/freezing on my 6S Plus and I set it up as a new phone. Only thing I did was sync up a few ringtones and that's it.

Reminds me of my old 6+.
I've not had my 6S+ do that kind of thing once, although clearly you have. Strange.

I had similar thing happening, but not as long though! It disappeared in couple days and not repeating anymore.

The delay today is better. Only a second or two now. Though double pressing home to display the wallet still takes about 4 seconds for my card to show up which is a lot longer than it did on my old phone (nearly instantaneous). I have to re-lock and repeat to get it to work correctly.

I'm finding if I use the power button to display the lock screen and then unlock it, there is no delay, but I shouldn't have to do that.

My 6S+ stalls after signing in with touch id. Not every time, but pretty consistent if you havent touched the phone for about 10 minutes. The screen is unresponsive for 1-2 seconds. If I press settings icon for example it wont open it right away and will lag, sometimes even 2-3 seconds. This is so annoying. However never had lag with status bar, once its logged its there intsantaniously.
I'm using it from backup and it was not there right away and appeared later, like a day after.

Same symptoms as you describe here happen to mine. I got a 64GB SIM free model A1633. I just got it on Oct. 12, 2015

What do you guys speculate could be the problem, an iOS software/firmware issue or a defective hardware device??

I have the exact same problem but went away after couple days

It's basically gone from my phone as well. Every now and then it takes a second or so extra, but the 4 to 10 second unlock times aren't happening anymore.

Unknown at this moment. Mine is no problem after few days but some still have issue. Personally i would exchange the phone for good night sleep

I reckon it's Siri doing its new thing of scanning all your data and providing you with 'useful' spotlight like results when scrolling left.

Spotlight on a Mac definitely lags when scanning your files, especially on an HDD rather than SSD. It used to have a dot in the middle of the magnifying glass to show you it was doing it. Not sure it does these days.

I suspect the iPhone is now doing the same in iOS 9 and causing lag. I noticed it on both my old iPhone 6 after updating and then on subsequent new 6S models. I've had a few due to poor screen quality issues.

Here's something odd. When I set my replacement iPhone 6s Plus up as new, it took several days to stop lagging badly when unlocking the phone. After 4 days I erased it and restored a backup I made of the replaced phone and it worked normally right off the bat.

It seems only setting it up as new causes it to do whatever it does that causes it to hang periodically.

I restored my new Sim Free 6S Plus from a iCloud backup of my 6 Plus which worked great. There is no lag or freeze at all. My 6S Plus is perfect so far with my 2 days with it.

I restored my 6s Plus to iOS 9.1 a few days ago to fix a problem and restored the backup. Now the unlock lag is back. Not as bad as it was originally, but I'm frequently seeing several second freezes when unlocking the phone now. Double tapping home to use Apple Pay is nigh unusable since it takes a good 6 seconds for my wallet to show up.

This poll kinda debunks the restore as new theory.

Not really. Maybe just in this case, but it is an official stance that Apple have taken (when users encounter trouble). IF the company making the product recommends you to do it, it must mean there is something to it.

Personally, I always set up as new because apart from a couple of video players, a camera app, dictionaries and now ad blockers, I literally don't use anything other than the stock apps like Keynote, video, iMessage etc. So for me, it means nothing to set up as new. Although I think if you can set up as new, you are better off to do so.

Just got a new iPhone 6S Plus yesterday. 64GB fwiw. I'm getting the occasional multi-second freezes after unlocking, and occasional jitteryness throughout the interface. The freezing after unlocking is a real nuisance. I'm going to give it another day or two and see if it "clears up" but this is strange. My year old iPhone 6 is butter all the time.

Brand new 6S+ here. I don't have the freezing issues, but the app switcher chronically lags, especially with more than 2 apps open, and there is a general lag at times as well. Reduce Transparency fixes this but at the cost of aesthetics that I'm not really willing to sacrifice...

Had no issues previously with a 6+.
