KGI's articles seem to be moving closer towards conjecture as of late. Throw enough guesses on the wall, something is bound to stick.

Appleinsider made a good point about him flip flopping on his views... earlier in the year he said that Force Touch would be so big that Apple was considering skipping the "S" moniker and calling the next gen iPhone 7.

He also missed last quarter's iPhone sales estimates by a mile.

The way I see it, most of the functionalities that Force Touch will introduce can be replaced with a normal long press, even on apple watch "forcing" a touch doesn't make any sense, a long press could do the same job.

But I think force touch on the iPhone keyboard can be very useful, for example, a long press over a letter will open the other forms normally, but a force touch will trigger key repetition...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Predicted: iPhone 6S/6S Plus to see decline in sales.

Reality to come: iPhone 6S/6S Plus best selling iPhone of all time.

In the MacBook, Force touch right now is the definition of gimmic.
On the phone, if they really do implement it as rumored (as a shortcut), it would seem to me, like they first decided to make the display force touch capable and than thought about how to implement it into the software. Which I'm not so sure is the best way to do it.

I think force touch doesn't really matter either way. The problem is, that apples share in the Chinese smartphone market is shrinking because of all the new players who make phones that are very capable for much cheaper.
The iPhone 6 was, what many people hat waited for, matching its sales in this environment will be very very tough and I am not sure, Force Touch is going to be enough.

Yeah, no. Force Touch on the trackpads is a significant improvement in usability over the old hinged-style. You can now actually click on any part of the trackpad with the same level of pressure. On the hinged models you can't even click at all in the upper 1/3 of the pad. And that's not even counting the other possibilities that Force Touch will bring once software implementation begins to take off. I think you need to look again at the definition of 'gimmick.'

It's not causing any stir in the iPhone world yet because the average user has exactly zero indication as to why they would want it. What will happen is that the iPhone 6s will be released, and there will be some demonstrations of new things that can only be done by phones with Force Touch, the press will get some hands-on time with them in the back room, state that it works flawlessly as implemented by Apple and that once apps adopt the new feature it will become indispensable. Then, once people see, are told, why it's something they'd want, it will begin to drive sales. Nobody thought a 'retina' screen or TouchID was really going to drive sales beforehand either. They had to see it and use it to be convinced.

Hopefully they start working on making the phone water resistant and more robust in general if sales slow down....

I miss the days where I could just toss my phone to someone without having to worry about it breaking.

Not worried of what this article is stating.

iOS 9 will cause all phones previous to a 6 to lag and stutter like a really bad 2010 android-running phone. Tons will find a need to upgrade. That's how apple got me!

Buy stock now and enjoy the return!

iOS 9 is specifically supposed to improve battery life and system performance on all devices. It should make older devices that run 8 poorly handle 9 a little better.

Couldn't care less about Force Touch. It's funny how Apple tries to hype up a new feature and convince the world it's a must have.
The 6s is still a larger iPhone for the millions of people still on a 5s and waiting for their contract to expire. Demand will still be strong. And last I checked, more people bought the iPhone 5s than the iPhone 5.

I think they're underestimating sales. There's still a lot of people using the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, and a lot of them will upgrade in September.

I'll be honest, I have to be sold on forced touch. I just don't see why we don't long press instead.

Convince me Apple.

My issue with long press is resting fingers. Often my finger is resting on the screen when reading something or navigating. Force Touch is less accidental. On the Watch I've got to be pretty decisive to trigger a Force Touch.

I have only experienced force tough on the watch so far. So far its nothing major. From this experience, I do not see force touch as the killer feature, like touch ID was for the 5s. Having said that, I have no idea what apple plans to do with force touch, so I will reserve judgement until it is announced. To me having both touch ID and force touch built into a sapphire display that eliminates the home button would be a game changer. Based on early rumors and leaked parts I am not counting on that happening however.

All I want is a friggen 4 inch iPhone 6. I don't care in what form, (aluminum, gold, plastic, kriptonight, dog turd, etc...)
I WON'T upgrade to a bigger size phone... not again... NOT NEVER!

I can barely reach upper left corner one handed on my iphone 6 (and I hate the swoop down feature). Having to force touch something up there would suck.
That... that actually kinda makes sense. I'm trying to keep an open mind about what FT will bring to the interaction table, but the ergonomic factor is definitely something to consider.

On a 6 Plus I think most users have accepted it's a two handed phone so it's not going to be that much of an issue. But On the 6, which really straddles the line...

If apple really includes the 12mp camera with improved sensor, it will be the "killer" feature. Force touch is nice, but not really necessary on big screens. Anyway, i don't get why people wouldn't buy a phone with force touch.

"Negative sales growth" and "declining sales" are the same thing.

The issue is mathematical. You're dealing with positive numbers, meaning they're declining. They're not growing on positive terms... they're decreasing. Growth is always towards positive numbers; otherwise that's steady or declining (towards negative numbers).

One big factor for sales decrease is the exchange rate with the US$. Apple gear has become significantly more expensive outside the U.S. this year.

I'm very interested in Force Touch myself, but if they don't have a top-of-the-line model with a 4" or smaller screen, I guarantee they will sell at least one fewer iPhones this year than they would otherwise.

I am on 4S. Here are my requirements for the 6S that will get me to upgrade: the 6S must be for sale. That's it. And I believe there are tons of people like me.

Force touch will be irrelevant and the 6S will sell well.

Funny how kuo and other analysts always being wrong is not mentioned ever. They were wrong on average by 15-20% last year yet they still have a job!

If an analyst were wrong only 15-20% of the time making these kind of predictions, I'd say they are doing a fantastic job!!

Dont see the need for Force Touch in a cell phone. It's not a must have feature
KGI is right

A new feature that people are still learning on a new phone that isn't even official yet isn't going to save the new phone that isn't announced? Wow. Talk about publication-levels of "First!"

There are a lot of 5s and similar users who will upgrade as soon as the new thing comes out. More than enough, really, to make these morons look like morons. Just like always.

Agreed...if you are coming from Iphone 4s,5, 5s, 5c...this would be an amazing upgrade.

In fact, if you put a a new casing on this one - this would be fantastic upgrade as well for iphone 6 users:

A9
12MP
new LTE chip
2G RAM
7000 frame
Force Touch
