I've upgraded every year since the 3GS.

There are three reasons I may not this time:
1. I have absolutely no problems with my 6+. I love this phone...still
2. AT&T Next. Usually I sell my old phone and buy a new one, but unless I pay full retail, by monthly service will go up at least $15 per month. I upgraded my wife's phone (she wanted a 5S) in May, so I'm already paying extra.
3. Aside from force touch, stronger frame (supposedly), and 2GB of RAM, what else will Apple add? I have Applecare+, so if my phone ever bends, I'll just get a new one.

Don't get me wrong, I WANT a new phone, but I really can't justify it.

Although, my wife says my daughter needs a phone as she's going to high school this year. Maybe she will end up with my 6+ (in an Otterbox case as I don't trust her not to drop it) and I will get the 6S+...maybe....

You forgot the camera...
- Stronger, stiffer
- A9 (new process, so either a powerhouse, massively better battery time, or a bit of both (the usual tact))
- Potentially a higher res screen, if not GPU performance will be much higher than curent phones
- 2 GB
- New Camera
- Force Touch
- Mystery upgrade... (often there is something we don't know that gets sprung), using haptic feedback would be interesting.

I'm coming from a 5 so there's a lot of new stuff for me anyways :) . Just hoping the battery won't be smaller as was rumoured.

I hope Apple offers a 4" phone for those certain people who desire one.

Other companies have seemingly abandoned 4" phones outside of super-cheap models.

But even Motorola's budget Moto G is 5"

Apple was the last company to offer a 4" flagship-level phone... and that phone launched in 2013.

I wonder what the future holds for 4" phones.

I work at a university and see a ton of college students still using 4" phones. Not sure if it's because they're cheaper, or if they haven't upgraded or keep things longer because students have no money, but they still seem popular and usable. Even among male students.

That would be me. I've been on an every two year upgrade cycle since the original iPhone, so this would be my year, but without a 4" screen model, I'll stick with my 5S and skip this year. And a warmed over last year's model labeled 6C won't do either. Top-of-the-line with a 4" (or even better a 3.5") screen or no sale.
I want to go back to a top of the line 4" iPhone myself. I don't want one purposely underspecced for marketing reasons.

Unfortunately it seems we are now at the mercy of whatever the growing Asian markets, particularly the Chinese buyers want. Which, even as an Asian myself, I find disconcerting because it's not how Apple, well, Steve Jobs, operated in the past. Size, color, design, ergonomics weren't predicated on chasing markets, but on what would work the best and look the best and represent the Apple image the best when made from the technology currently available.

It's kind of a mixed blessing that we now have more than one sized iPhone that comes in more than one or two colors. On the one hand customers have more options. On the other hand...customers have more options. And that's a bad thing in that you can't please everyone. But by looking like you're trying to please some people but not everyone equally, you're going to tick people off. People are now going to have in their minds what the ideal size is and be upset Apple won't make it.

It just seems like bargaining from a position from weakness to let it be known everything you're doing is to chase a market. Steve always sold us on Apple products based on the idea they were designed to offer the optimal user experience. If a phone was a certain size, you assumed it was that way for a good reason and was the best Apple can give at the current state of technology. And colors were based on what fit the Apple identity.

Apple can still offer gold bling and three or even four different sizes of iPhones or Apple Watches, but make it look like part of a plan to be the best and offer the best to a diverse consumer market. Not like you're pandering.

I personally was put off to discover we only got gold devices because the Asian market wanted them. If that's the way Apple thinking operates now, thank goodness the Asian markets aren't clamoring for asparagus green phones one inch thick is all I can say.

Yeah... there are plenty of 4" phones being used out in the world today... and you can still buy some models in that size today too.

But what does it say when companies' flagships have swollen beyond 4" ?

The Samsung Galaxy was 4" in 2010... but it has increased in size since then. I already mentioned Motorola with their 5" budget phone.

And then there are companies like OnePlus whose only phones are 5.5"

What are they thinking?

And where do 4" phones fit into this landscape?

I'm still using a 4" phone... iPhone 5S. But Apple didn't launch a 4" phone last year... and I'm starting to doubt that they ever will again.

Apple was the last company to offer a flagship phone in a 4" size.

It make sense for android phones to be big, less rich customers who need one device for everything.

Apple is a premium brand and have a customer base that can afford buying an iPad as well for the bigger screen experience.

No need to merge the 2 into one phablet to rule them all..

The way I see it, the phone will never be big enough to be usable for any longer period of viewing videos.. So I'd rather just get good portability and buy another device for media consumption..

Not saying they must keep the 4" screen but the over all size of the phone should be iPhone 5-ish.

My point is that none of these things are even remotely compelling to me. All these things are touted every year, but I rarely notice much difference. So unless I give my daughter my phone, odds are I'm not buying.

Predicted: iPhone 6S/6S Plus to see decline in sales.

Reality to come: iPhone 6S/6S Plus best selling iPhone of all time.

No, not even close.

The 6 is Apple's first proper screen size. Many flocked to it, on my local forums many non Apple users is due to screen size, they bought back in. Many that aren't due for an upgrade, jumped in. Most of these wont be re buying this soon in, so the sales spike due to the new screen size, will cause a dip next time in. After that, BAU
