I had no intentions of getting a new phone, but I smashed the screen on my iPhone 5 two weeks ago. So, I swung by the local AT&T store at 7:50am this morning and only half a dozen people were outside. I walked in at 8am and was out of there by 8:15 with a 64GB 6S. The beauty of living in a rural area.

I pre-ordered for the 64gb rose gold and went into the store today, only to find out they somehow bumped me to a gold 64gb. I showed them my reservation email (received from Apple a few days ago confirming that my phone is reserved in the store for Rose Gold 64gb) and the dude can only apologize and tell me it's already sold out.

So... what was the point of me waking up in the middle of the night to pre-order this phone? Thought reserving in store was foolproof... guess I was wrong. :(

Disappointing experience trying to pick up a 64GB 6S at T-Mobile this morning. I get there, they can’t do the new T-Mobile payment plan with the prepaid plan I have. Ok, fine, I’ll pay retail. They only take cash. Ok, fine, I pull out an obscene amount of cash from an ATM. Then I find out they charge $60 extra for prepaid customers. Not paying $810. I’m just going to buy it from Apple.

Got to Apple Store at 7:55am for my 8am reservation time. Checked in with person at the door while 150 or so people stood in line. They opened the doors at 8am, all the staff came rushing out cheering and clapping (which was really weird, IMO) and called out names for reservations. I was third name called, paid up for my first month + tax + case - Apple Upgrade Program - and out the door with my 6s+ activated and ready to go by 8:10am. Very smooth process.

I went to the Salem NH store, which had zero lines because being a tax free state, Apple wasn't allowing walk ins on launch day. Reservations only. I have never seen a more orderly launch in my life there, because there was zero reason to line up without a reservation.

The only snag I hit was that I have a t-mobile unlocked iPhone 6 Plus (the only way to get an unlocked phone at launch last year) that I bought outright last year. I use AT&T with it. When I reserved, I reserved that one since the AT&T one preorder seemed to want me to go through an upgrade process with a new line and all of that and I just wanted the unlocked phone.

When I went to buy the phone, there was no way to get the Apple Upgrade Program without first (we later figured, after it was too late) activating on T-Mobile. This is despite it being an unlocked phone. I ended up buying it outright, and I'll have to figure out something for next year. I did trade in the old phone to save $400. I could have gotten a couple hundred more on the open market but don't want the hassle.

Next year, I'll try to preorder the AT&T one.

Awful experience trying to get a Verizon 6s plus this morning. No store got them in my area last night. No Verizon stores, best buys or targets.
The goal was to get the $200 Verizon gift card for my wife's iPhone 5 so that's why I wanted to do it in person. A major waste of my time.
Did anyone else get a 6s plus from a Verizon store this morning?

Just unboxed mine and set it up. Coming from a 5C... fantastic. Large screen that's remarkable clear and crisp. So fast. So easy to type. I'm no longer squinting! Really looking forward to using things like Apple Pay and the Health app to count steps.

Think I'll probably get a case for it, though. :)

Yes , Apparently Samsung was there offering pillows and blankets for those in the queue.

Wait Samsung phones are actually called S6? How is that even legal? It's so damn close to 6S. Which came first Apple or Samsung?

Who copied who? They even use "plus" in the name.

I got my 6 last year via UPS in the Lehigh Valley. Didn't come til 7:30, and the delivery guy was like you cannot believe how many of these I've delivered today. Hope yours comes sooner.

Same here in my area (Scranton area)... I caught the UPS guy when he delivered and there we're two of them in the truck... he made the comment his truck was full of them for delivery.

Eh, I had a reservation. Credit was so bad I didn't qualify for the iPhone Upgrade Program.
Sorry to hear - try t-mobile/Sprint they are more liberal

Based on the lines we are seeing, we might be looking at 12-14m during the launch weekend.

Got a report in from a buddy in Virginia that just walked up to the local Apple store. He was about 30th in line just from walking up and every single person in front of him was Chinese and none of them were speaking English. I figured with the iPhone being sold in China this time around the bulk buyers wouldn't be as numerous, but I guess not.

Glad to see the tradition of bulk buyers taking the phone out of the hands of real buyers carries on. /s

Chinese Mafia/Gang activity. ;)

I wish I could line up for a brand new iPhone, but unfortunately I’m among the few people in the world who believe that the iPhone 5s is still the greatest phone ever made.

Still hanging out for a 4” phone with modern specs….
Have you tried the 4.7 for a least the 2 week trial period? - my mother has the smallest hands and she is able to handle the 4.7 without much touble after she got acquainted

I got my iPhone 6s today. It's nice! I had the 6, but the 6s, touchID feels like it's 3x as fast and the device navigation is notably quicker along with opening apps and loading graphics, ala google earth etc....I feel no difference in weight or size.

The best is I'm giving my gf my iPhone 6 ( 3 months old), happy wife happy life :)

A friend of mine just got a 6S+ from an att store. Not sure how early he got there but I'm surprised they had some. I thought they were the hard to get models.

Anyone try showing up early to a reservation? Mine is for 7, but I'm getting out of work early and going to be there around 6. Hoping I don't have to stand around for an hour.

Terrible experience lining up at Austin Domain Apple Store. Waited for 3 hours and was told that most pluses were sold out.... They barely made a dent in the line. Really wish I hadn't lined up at all. Complete waste of time.

That's so lame.

Samsung bash Apple at every opportunity but then copy them over and over and over again. It's like they're schizophrenic or something.

Apple makes big screen iPhone: "Look! Apple copied Android!"

Apple adds 4K: "Look! Apple copied Android!"

Apple makes Live photos: "Look! Apple copied HTC!"

And the best one of them all, the original iPhone. There were touchscreen devices before it, but they all sucked as far as I remember. That was what really kicked off this whole thing.

I also love the race to add high resolution displays after the iPhone 4. Again: *Crickets*

I can't wait until every smartphone tries add some cheap, poorly done version of 3D/Force Touch. I give it 6 months.

Would love to go to the Apple store one day and get a product on launch day like this. As many of you have mentioned you get to talk to people who share the same enthusiasm for Apple.

Perhaps we will see the same for the launch of iPad PRO in a few months?

Got my 6S this morning at the carrier shop but kept getting force fed offers on insurance and insurance+ (that covers more than entry level insurance).
