i only get big storage when new model redesign - for S version i dont think that good idea ""

The mighty can always fall. As a corporate buyer we are now spending the extra $100 to get to 64GB. That won't last forever if Apple doesn't add more value to the iPhone as part costs come down.
No, as a consumer, I am now spending $100 less to get a 64 GB iPhone. And every year, the iPhone comes with more features and improved components. How is that not value to me?

There is nothing Apple "has" to do here. Don't like their products? Don't buy them. What's next - people complaining that Apple music should be free, or Apple should bundle a free iPad with every iPhone purchase, or some other deal they somehow feel "entitled" to.

Get real, you people.

Anyways, this thread had gone way beyond stupid. I for one am glad that the people posting here are hopefully not indicative of Apple's general consumer base.

You people can continue whining about Apple not offering a 32 GB model all you want. I for one know I will be choosing the 64 GB model (heck, I might even go 128) and be happy using my purchase.

Be a happy sheep. Doesn't mean the rest of us want to.

32GB base should be minimum these days. Offering the 16GB with a huge skip up to 64GB for "just" $100 is their clever way to make as much cash as possible, simple as that.

Apple is being assh*les with this ridiculous amount of space.

And the fact their laptops still come with a paltry 4gb is also a disservice to their customers (4gb is fine if you could UPGRADE the ram).

What is it with them? Geesh.

Insufficient storage space unless you drop more $$$ into what is already the most expensive smartphone on the market, and insufficient RAM no matter what. Throw in a ton of iOS bugs and iPhones are looking less and less like the device to own.

People who would buy the 64GB (or higher) option regardless are making a saving, the rest of us are being gimped. I only need 32GB so the '32GB free' thing is useless to me. Just charge me less for what I actually want!

He also said something else that makes no sense at all:

"The belief is more and more as we use iCloud services for documents and our photos and videos and music," he said, "that perhaps the most price-conscious customers are able to live in an environment where they don't need gobs of local storage because these services are lightening the load."

So these 'price-conscious' consumers are happy to spend a fortune on unlimited data plans, yet they like to save money on the iPhones they have?
Because for anyone to use WiFi services they need the photos and video on the device first to upload them.

I spend 50$ a month, plus 11$ for insurance (plus taxes and some small fees, obviously) for unlimited on my iPhone. >_>

I spent more for less on my last carrier.

I don't really understand why anyone cares that the base is still 16GB... How does it really affect anyone that is complaining about it? If you don't want a 16GB model, don't buy it. Everyone who is complaining that they need 32GB for minimum can now get the 64GB model for the same price the 32GB was previously. So you're getting double the capacity for the same price you previously bought the 32GB for (5S and before).

If you really want to make a statement, vote with your wallet. Don't buy it. When Apple sees little to no demand for a 16GB, they'll eventually get the message. The 16GB models still being around tells me that there is still a huge market for them and it's clearly not everyone that is complaining that are buying them. 16GB doesn't do it for me so I bought the 128GB, it's a pretty simple solution. But just because some people dislike the current base capacity doesn't mean it shouldn't be available to all those that clearly still find it acceptable. It's called options, and you all have them.

There isn't a huge market for 16GB storage, there's a huge market for the cheapest iPhone. You're assuming that people would choose 16GB even if the 64GB model was the same price.

How are you gimped when you are getting at least the same amount of storage you were getting before, at the same prices you would have been paying anyways?

And the people who would have bought a 16gb iPhone anyways are not getting anything less for their value. iOS still takes up the same amount of space, and with features like app thinning, you should actually be recouping more storage on your phone when iOS 9 gets released. You are no worse off than you were 2 years ago. To these people who are "rioting", all I can say is that you bought a 16gb iPhone knowing fully well it would not fit your needs, when you could have gone 64gb, and you get no sympathy from me.

If I go to a restaurant and ask for less rice with my order because I am a small eater and don't want to waste food, the restaurant is not going to charge me less for a smaller plate of rice. I am still paying full price.

I simply don't get this notion that Apple is somehow obligated to give people free stuff. Yes, it might be a nice gesture for Apple to make 32gb the default model at the same price, but my whole point is that Apple doesn't need to do it in the first place.

If Apple does so, it's a nice and welcome move, but if they don't, people still don't have a right to complain.

I can't relate to all the hate for just making a cheaper 16gb version available?!?

If you want more get more. I've always gotten the max storage. 16gb is available to those who are cool with streaming, iCloud etc. and have good wifi at home and work.

Forgive me if someone already said this to you, but I don't have the patience to read through 13 pages of comments:

The problem is that the 16GB model is the base. Let's say you want to buy an iPhone on a 2 year contract. Typically there are 3 capacities available and the prices look like...

low capacity = $200
medium = $300
high = $400

The complaint is that 32GB should be the "low capacity model" that you get for $200. I don't think that anyone would complain if the entry model was 16GB, but only cost $100 or less on contract. The argument is that you shouldn't still be getting just 16GB for $200.

None of this matters to you because you always get max storage, but consider the people who are buying at the low end.

Simply put, the issue here is that the iPhone is Apple's cash cow. They need to keep their profit margin very high on their iPhone in order to continue to grow profits and satisfy investors. It would have been better if Apple innovated and came out with another potential cash cow (and I doubt the Apple Watch qualifies).

I've felt Tim has done a good job since Steve died, but I'm beginning to have some doubts. You can defend Apple on this move if you'd like and say they can get away with it. I agree, they can get away with it but I'd like to amend by saying they can get away with it NOW. If this is Apple's plan for long term growth, they are NOT going to grow in the long term.

Apple are the richest company in the world and have billions sitting around that they don't know what to do with. Would it really hurt them to make one dollar less per shipped iPhone? Heck, they could start a new storage scam with RAM. Have the base 32GB iPhone shipping with 1GB of RAM (which is plenty enough for the apologists by all accounts) but give the option of a 3GB upgrade @ $100 for those of us who need our phones to work properly.:D

They only make the 16gb because people buy it.

If you stop buying it, they'll stop making it, is that simple.
The bigger problem is that Apple purposely won't make a 32GB model which would be enough for lots of people. It's marketing genius really: having just 16 GB of storage on your iPhone severely limits what you're able to do, so many people will opt for the more expensive version (64GB model), which costs $100 more, when most of them would have been happy with 32GB in the first place.
I always buy the biggest storage available anyway so I don't care all that much about the base model, but I'm not impressed with Apple's petty tactics.

Why can't they just up the base model to 32 GB already?
Because they know 16GB is too little for many, and that they get what is essentially a free $100 by upselling. 32GB is adequate for most people, so they would lose out on millions of upsells.

I do think it's getting ridiculous though. 16GB in 2009 was far more useful than 16GB is now

If Apple start with 32g then people say "fck 32g.. 32g is so small..."
No, because 32 GB is adequate for many more people's needs, including my own. There are those who actually need 64 GB, but they should be planning to pay extra for the next model anyway, regardless of whether the base model has 16 or 32 GB.

You are getting a 64 GB iPhone at the same price of a previous 32 GB iPhone. Why are you complaining about getting more storage at the same price as before?

...because they only need 32GB and are still paying $100 to get it. What use is an extra 32GB for free if you won't ever use it??

This seems like a slippery slope argument to me.

Where's the boundary, if we want to go down this "Apple is so rich, they can easily afford to give us X for free"? What next? Free bumpers? Free iTunes credit? Free beats headphones with every iPhone? Free logic cut pro software? Apple didn't get so rich by giving everything away. It got rich by making a compelling product that people were willing to pay for despite whatever shortcomings it may have.

Then maybe these people should learn to use that extra 32gb of storage?

What harm is an extra 32gb even if you never use it? Especially when you are still paying the same price as before?

Erm, because things either get better or they get cheaper. iPhone storage has stayed the same. I want 32GB and I'm still paying the same 100$ for it. The additional 'free' 32GB might as well not be there.

My phone works properly with 1GB of RAM. :|

Well it works perfectly for one app use, and browsing data-lite sites. Any kind of multitasking or data-heavy websites will cause that 1GB to start steaming. It was fine on the iPhone 5 but as soon as 64Bit devices came alone 1GB has been insufficient. Especially so on the 6+.

And the iPhone continues to improve, spec-wise every year. So you are getting a better product at the same price every year.

I see it as a package deal. You have to see the iPhone as a holistic package. You shouldn't focus on individual specs and compare them to other products like that.

In the very least, you have not lost anything.

Apart from the bigger screen, my 6+ is actually a worse phone than my old iPhone 5 in many respects so I disagree. As for the 16GB base, it is a separate issue and Apple need to move with the times like everyone else. They tout their phones as being the best you can get, and they charge top dollar for them. However, a 16GB base level of storage and 1GB of RAM is substantially out of date spec. Not only have user requirements gone up, due to better cameras & video storing ever larger files and apps taking up more space, but the cost of storage and RAM has fallen. Aside from concentrating purely on maximum profits and looking at this from an Apple shareholder's perspective, it is indefensible that the company skimps on essential hardware like this.
