Erm, because things either get better or they get cheaper. iPhone storage has stayed the same. I want 32GB and I'm still paying the same 100$ for it. The additional 'free' 32GB might as well not be there.
What you want just isn't on the menu. Since you're someone who has enough apps and takes enough pictures that a 16GB version of your current phone is not enough, you want a 32GB, because the 32GB you have tends to be about 80% full. But with a higher resolution camera, and higher resolution/higher frame-rate videos, that 32GB would be inadequate. You'd have to change your habits and take less pictures to keep the newer phone at 80%. If you're really proud of only needing 80% of 32GB, then of course you will be pleased to change your behavior to stay at your perfect percentage point.

Most people who are comfortable with a 32GB model of an older model will find that 64GB is the new 32GB. They can take the same number of photos and videos, with a better quality camera, and they pay the same for 64GB as they used to pay for 32GB.

I have a 6+ and I'm not getting ridiculous levels of refresh. I didn't even when I was using 8.x

The 6+ is the worst device, tablet or phone, out of any I've ever used on any platform when it comes to reloading/refreshing. Clean install etc. My friend's is the same and plenty of people on MR complain of the same problem. I can only assume that you don't browse data-heavy sites and then swap to data-heavy apps & back again several minutes later. Sure I can keep the calendar app and a couple of rrrreal light websites open simultaneously but that's about it. Nothing is guaranteed to stay in memory and reloading must be expected at all times in order to avoid losing work. Come on though, what is to be expected from a 64Bit device pushing a 5.5" HD screen with only 1GB of RAM onboard. Surely you aren't trying to make out that it multitasks like a beast? The i5 refreshed/reloaded way less readily and that's a two generations older phone. Yes it had the same amount of RAM, but it was a 32Bit device with a lo-res and tiny screen.

My 6+ is 64GB and I had the 32GB iPhone 5 prior to this. I've just looked and I have 31GB free but could quite easily trim some of my storage. There is a ton of garbage on my phone that I would readily move in order to save 100$.

And yet my 6+ is running even better on beta 2 than it did on 8.4. So ... there's that. :\

Have you tried an iPad Air 2 with iOS 9? You'll see what multitasking is really like.

While I get what you're trying to say, I would like to point out that the 3GS base storage was 8GB not 16GB.

No the base model was 16: June 2009 (16 and 32 GB) June 2010 (8 GB)

While I get what you're trying to say, I would like to point out that you are wrong.

Have a nice day! :)

Oh lawd. Great opinion brah. Light years behind competitors? Force touch, touch ID, apple pay, iTunes, hands off, continuity, and so on. Come on, you a hard core troll?

-Google wallet was around years before apple pay.

-Continuity only works if you have other apple devices. Its not like i can work on something on my iphone and then pick up on my surface pro.

- I'll give Apple touch ID. Even though they weren't the first . But theirs was the most accurate and reliable .

-we haven't seen touch force even implemented on iphone yet so you don't know how far or useful those gestures will go. It works well on my mbp but it could be a disaster on the iPhone.

No, I make out that it multitasks to a level that I find acceptable for a smartphone.

And my laptop multitasks better than an iPad Air 2. Different devices are used differently.

What's even more ridiculous is all the people calling this out and they are wrong. The base was 16gb for the 3gs.

You both are absolutely right. And they bumped it down to 8GB for the iPhone 4? Weird. Completely forgot about that.

iTunes? Seriously? :D
Android has their own payment system
Force Touch isn't available on any iPhone yet
Touch ID is well implemented but again, certain Android phones have their own version
Hands Off and Continuity are useless if you don't have other Apple products and to be fair, there are several Google features that Apple can't match.

Really though, the poster you quoted was talking about hardware and other than Touch ID and Force Touch (which isn't even out yet), your comments relate to software.

Fair enough. As to comparing hardware, a ANroid phone needs more memory and cores to get average performance while an iPhone with less cores and memory runs much better. Riddle me that. Surely this demonstrates software and hardware work together as a package.

Without software it's just hardware specs that do nothing useful.

You may find the 6+ level of refreshing acceptable (and I can't argue with your own requirements) but is the fact the multitasking capability has been significantly downgraded over the two generations older iPhone 5 acceptable?

But, but it has a 64-bit CPU! Doesn't that make up for it??

just 100 dollar more , = shopping macys , eat , gas

what the matter ..... come on people , more spend more credit , economy go up ,,,,

You could always just buy one with the amount of space you want...

Buy the 64GB.

But I don't need 64GB. I need more than 16, but I don't need 64. I have about 5.6GB of Music, 2GB of photos, and 3-4GB of Apps. It wouldn't even be THAT big a deal if it wasn't for the fact that the actual usable storage of my phone wasn't 12GB instead of 16GB.

Why not just make 32GB the $199 price point instead of forcing consumers who just need a little more than 16GB to pay $100 more (esp. considering the parts difference is much MUCH less that)?

As a VERY happy Apple Watch owner, I have to say that Force Touch is entirely useless in this implementation. I find that I am always pressing down until it activates, but by the time I've used enough force it was long enough that the same effect could be achieved by simply using a long touch of the screen instead. Similarly, because Glances and Notifications do not work in apps, these hidden menus could simply be assigned to a swipe down or swipe up in many cases. In fact, swiping down to always access the current app's settings on the watch would be a far more intuitive gesture.

I can see Force Touch bringing 2 or 3 cute games to the iPhone eventually, but it isn't a feature to get excited about. In fact, it will just allow Apple to further make a mess of their UI designs. Again, I love my Apple Watch, but it certainly isn't intuitive. Apple Music took the confusing UI to a whole new level and really seems to have been designed with Force Touch in mind.

Please show where I said corps specified the 16GB model?

The 7th post on page 13 contains your post in my original reply. I can't be bothered sifting though this entire thread to find your actual post, but it's the same as quoted on page 13.

My parents are always 'accidentally' pressing the wrong thing on the screen, or hitting a link whilst they're scrolling (and copy/paste is always illuminated whilst they scroll:D), so I can see Force Touch being an absolute PITA for folk like them.

Looks like the 6s will be my next phone (I'm still on a 4 ).

I could get away with 16gb but would probably go with a 32 or 64 since I tend to keep my phones a long time.

16 is fine for many people, just not the power users who come to forums like this.

I can't relate to all the hate for just making a cheaper 16gb version available?!?

If you want more get more. I've always gotten the max storage. 16gb is available to those who are cool with streaming, iCloud etc. and have good wifi at home and work.

Sorry, just can't agree with you. The base model iPhone has been priced more or less the same (where I live, so I guess it's a global Apple pricing scheme) since at least 4S - iPhone 6 is actually slightly more expensive. So Apple kept the price while not upgrading the internal storage. One can only assume that's been very beneficial for Apple and not so for the users, since, like MacFather wrote, the pictures and videos alone take up more and more space. Furthermore, the Android competition, like Samsung Galaxy S6, is giving 32GB in base option.
But let's forget the competition. Apple is a premium brand (that's how they position themselves) that's all about the user experience. In that case 16GB in a 760 Euro phone (where I live that's way over the average salary) is just pathetic. I like Apple products, but let's be real: they have mastered squeezing out people's money to perfection. And 2015 is not 2011. Unlike iPhone 4S, the iPhone 6 (and the 5 and 5S before it) have tougher competition.
That's why I was seriously considering going Android before deciding on iPhone 6. The 128GB version cost me an arm and a leg and then it bent after less than 2 months... I contacted Apple, sent them pictures like they asked (externally the phone is in mint condition, it had the Apple's leather case on from day 3 basically) and then they went into a silent mode.
So just like Chris5488 I gotta question myself the next time; why should I pay the premium price if I'm not getting a premium device nor the premium service? I know that your "experience" may vary, but that was my case and that's what I got for my money... Not impressive to say the least.

Are you really so cheap that you cannot afford paying a little more for what you want?! Come on! 16G is for people who wanted it good and cheap, mainly cheap!

If the 16GB model were actually cheap, I'd buy your argument. But as the base model is already a premium device when you don't have carrier subsidies hiding the true price of the phone, paying such a price for 16GB in late 2015 is just ridiculous. I'm currently on a 64GB iPhone 6, but if this 16GB BS continues, I'm tempted to look elsewhere for my next phone.
