So does that mean you are back up and running? Until US Cellular starts whitelisting out-of-network phones, you might want to keep the iPhone 5C around for SIM-related issues. It's a bit surprising they will whitelist a Verizon phone, but not an AT&T model that is technologically identical to the one that they sell. On a side note, I do wonder why the regional carriers are getting the A1633/A1634. I was thinking perhaps they roam on AT&T's LTE. If not, then I'd have thought that they would carry the A1687/A1688.

Apple should probably just eliminate the whole "GSM" vs. "CDMA" distinction and just stipulate that all iPhones should be whitelisted on all CDMA networks until the carriers phase them out in a few years. My parents got the same song and dance from Sprint and Verizon that the T-Mobile A1687 that they also sell won't work on their networks. At least the local Apple store had an extra Verizon model in stock that they were able to exchange the launch date T-Mobile version for.

I am indeed up and running! Roaming is set to voice only, so no data roaming issues. Although, before I read your message and decided to call USC again, I contacted at&t, gave them the IMEI, and the person I spoke to said it looked like it was locked to their network, so I filled out an unlock request and I'm hoping this doesn't screw something up again. Obviously now that everything is working on US Cellular, it has to be unlocked.

I completely agree that Apple needs to eliminate the GSM & CDMA distinction, and it would appear they're moving closer to doing just that.

If you paid full price and bought it from Apple it is unlocked. If it were locked then it would have said "invalid SIM" when you turned it on, and it wouldn't let you make a call. There's no need for AT&T to do anything.

Verizon is supposed to whitelist any compatible phone, but in practice it is difficult. My mom bought a T-Mobile iPhone 6s on Friday (that was the only one available in the size and color). She attempted to get Sprint to give her a SIM card. No dice, even though Sprint's own BYOD website lists the iPhone 6s as eligible. It was the same with Verizon (my parents had been thinking of switching to Verizon for a while). Eventually on Saturday they were able to get Apple to exchange the T-Mobile for a Verizon phone. It's aggravating since the T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon models are identical.

No. Sorry about the confusion. Let me try to straighten this out (since i have both att and verizon services).

1. I ordered a full price att iPhone 6S plus from Apple directly.

The SIM card that came is provisioned for the att number (let's say att number (240-xxx-1234) i gave them during the checkout process. It doesn't matter if i pulled that SIM card out. That sim that came preinstalled is already pre programmed already)....Once att 6s plus was active. I put my already activated Verizon sim in and i got verizon signal and lte data. So my full price att 6s plus orferrd from Apple dot com was fully unlocked

But to answer ur question about Verizon iPhone. All Verizon iPhone 5 and newer come unlocked for GSM out of the box. I have purchased a full price and also subsidized verizon iPhone 5S before. U don't need a Verizon sim or account to originally activate a full price Verizon iPhone purchased directly from Apple.

Ok since I ordered my AT&T iphone 6s from Best buy and not Apple (and didn't give my non-existing AT&T number), I guess mine will be unlocked from the get-go. As far as I know it may come with a AT&T sim card, but it won't be associated with any number or service unless I call AT&T to open a new service and best buy don't require you to open a new AT&T account in the store. So even if I tun it on with the sim card, basically nothing will happen then as I have no service.

Still a bit unsure about getting service from Verizon, though. I understand Verizon sells its iphones unlocked, but my concern is whether I can use my iphone 6s (AT&T model) with Verizon, Sprint, and T-mobile's pre-paid service.

Based on what KPOM wrote, it looks like it may be very difficult with Verizon and Sprint. I know T-mobile sells sim cards, but it sounds like Verizon and Sprint may refuse to sell/give sim card to people like me who wants to use their pre-paid plan service -therefore denying me from getting their service- even though iphone 6s is supposed to be whitelisted. Or maybe this only applies to month-to-month plan and it may be easier to sign up for a pre-paid plan and get the sim card that way even with Verizon and Sprint?

As I stated, what I want is the flexibility of being able to use any of 4 carriers' pre-paid plan at any time, but oh well. I guess I may have to stick with just AT&T's gophone or T-mobile's.

@passingapple one option may be to get the cheapest Android phone you can find from Verizon that uses a nano-sim. All you need is an IMEI on Verizon's whitelist. Once you get the account opened up, you can put the nano-sim in your unlocked T-Mobile or AT&T iPhone 6s and it will work fine. Keep the Android phone as a spare or sell it. It doesn't matter (except that if you keep it, it will be easier to get a replacement SIM in case your SIM is ever lost or damaged).

For the record, my AT&T iPhone 6s came from the Apple Store. It's unlocked since I paid full price through the Apple Upgrade program. I have an existing Verizon account that I mostly use with an iPad, but it has voice, as well. My main account is with AT&T so that's the model I went with.

I paid for my 6s Plus at fill price for AT&T from Best Buy, it came locked, so I put my wife's AT&T sim card in it and activated the phone, then I did the unlock request online through AT&T and about 3 minutes later my 6s Plus was unlocked and usable anywhere.

Geez. I hope that doesn't mean I can't have it unlocked unless I first sign up with their service.

Maybe I can still activate the phone with the sim card that came with -even if it is not associated with any service- and not have to put pre-existing account sim card, which I don't have, to do so. I don't know if you read my post 1-2 pages ago, but I don't plan on getting AT&T (or any U.S carrier) service until I come back from an overseas trip in late November and I need to the phone unlocked to be able to use with a local sim while I am traveling.

It's a bit of downer to hear that the fully paid iphone 6s purchased from best buy will be locked, but as long as I can unlock it right away and without having to sign up an account (and pay $15 account activation fee in addition), I am ok with it.

That's to be expected. Apple's different because they can unlock at point-of-sale. Aside from the carriers themselves, I doubt other retailers have that capability.

Do you know anyone with an AT&T sim card?

Are you near an Apple Store? Just get one from them. They are unlocked if you pay full price.

I could try, but not really feeling that it's worth the trouble. If I can't get it unlocked without an issue on my own after I get it from best buy, i will probably return this. I have AT&T sim card, but it's no longer active, so it's useless. And I gave away my phone last week, so...yeah. That's why I have a T-mobile one coming from Apple.com as a backup.

I could, but with the nearby NYC stores, that's not a sure thing even if I wait in line for an hour or two. I've got a competition with those scalpers, you know, and I hear it's like that in NYC because you can get it unlocked and not have to sign up with a service before walking out. And I'd have to fork out extra $15-20 or something due to higher NY tax rate. So anyway, not really feeling it. I've got T-mobile iphone 6s from apple.com coming in as a backup in case I can't make the AT&T one from Best Buy work. ...I hope it's not locked, those full priced iphones ordered from apple.com as opposed to from apple retail stores, though. Even if they are, as long as I can get it unlocked without having to sign up and/or pay activation fee with a carrier, it's all good, whether it is from Best Buy or apple.com.

I was just in Manhattan the other day. At this point you can probably just walk in and buy one, depending on the model you want. They have reservations online too if you're worried.

Thanks, but the one I want -AT&T 6s rose gold 64gb- usually is sold out everywhere in NYC right now, especially for reservation. That may change around the 2nd week of next month, so I may try that if I have trouble unlocking both AT&T (from Best Buy) and T-mobile (apple.com). That may be my last resort since I'd have to pay $15-20 additional tax.

In stock in Manhasset if you feel like hopping on the LIRR. Only issue is getting from Manhasset Station to the Apple Store if you don't have a car. The N20/N21 bus runs along Northern Boulevard that'll get you to the Apple Store, you just have to walk to Northern Boulevard from the station.

Or take a cab, **** it.

Is it like that with the reservation system? Michigan Avenue was a breeze. Grand Central was my "go to" store when I was in NYC. How about Tice's Corner or Garden State Plaza?

Never mind, it's gone now.

I had the model you want unopened and returned it to the 5th ave store yesterday. Check reservation stock. It may be available for sale.

KPOM, Silver Idaten, Coleman2010

Thanks guys for the help. However as I don't have a car, NYC stores are the only option and currently the model I want is not available for reservation in any of the stores. They do update it more frequently than other retailers, so I will check on them again after I get both of my 6s from Best Buy and Apple.com around next Wednesday. Who knows, maybe I can get the one I already ordered work without an issue.

You didn't like the color and/or wanted the plus instead? In any case, Rose gold 6s or 6s plus (especially 64 and 128gb) are the most popular ones, so that's long gone, I'm afraid. I just need to wait out the (pale) pink fervor to die down...probably.

When your iPhone 6s/6s+ is connected to LTE Advanced does it show anything next to the carrier like "LTE-A" or "LTE+"?.. Just wondering

Which one did you want? I have a Verizon Rose Gold 128GB 6S Plus reserved for me at Soho and the 14th street stores. I reserved it just in case friends wanted it and they already picked one up. The Verizon version is unlocked.

verizon update

Broadus from who has a very good eye on howard forums told me that apple has admitted that the cdma radios in both phones are identical. the only difference is the AT&T one has channel 30 and the t-mobile / verizon / sprint one does not

apple has admitted that both phones have CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz) and TD-SCDMA 1900 (F), 2000 (A)

this is what apple said about the iPhone 6s specifications page back on 9-9
https://web.archive.org/web/20150909194212/http://www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs/

this is what apple put on their specifications page today
http://www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs/

the whole AT&T vs verizon differences thread can be closed now
there is no difference except the AT&T has channel 30

xoxo

skimmed through the thread and it seems like a lot of "will att version iphone work with verizon service," my question is: will the tmobile iphone version work with verizon service? (full paid at the apple store... it seems like its hit or miss and having to contact verizon to whitelist the tmo version to work with verizon?
