Those are micro scratches. Your pocket, cleaning cloth or whatever you're putting your phone in/on has particles in/on it that is scratching the screen. Just because it's in your pocket doesn't mean it's safe.

Slightly off topic but I might have these micro scratches on my camera lens (either that or they are tiny dust particles... Dozens of them) and I've had the phone for two weeks. Now since it's sapphire glass, would these same particles you speak of surrounding us in our daily life damage the screen as easily?

Got a 6S Plus earlier this month. Decided that I would go naked screen-wise. Absolute scratch-magnet. Yeah, so they are micro scratches in the oleophobic coating and can only be seen in certain lighting conditions, but still, pretty difficult to accept. If that was after a couple of days of absolutely babying the phone, then what'll it look like after a year?

Anyway, I had to return it for an unrelated reason and decided to get a tempered glass protector from Mediadevil. Applied it straight out the box and it's pretty good tbh. Feels like the screen should and clear as anything. Would recommend.

No sir. It takes a lot to scratch the camera lens. Sounds more like dust under it.

I will never use a screen protector. They're ugly, always get some sort of bubble/dust under them, never feel as nice, often looks like crap outside, and I've never needed to use one before so I'm not going to start now![/QUOTE]

I ordered Crystalusion liquid glass protection. It isn't delivered yet, so I didn't have the chance to test it yet. But I did some research before buying it and it promises to give your entire phone, not only the cover glass, protection against abrasion (scratches), fingerprints and dirt. I also hate screen protectors, so this seems a great alternative.

Let me preface this by saying I have never scratched an iPhone screen before.

However, it's a sunny day here in Seattle, and out in the sun it's quite obvious my new 6s Plus is covered in micro scratches (those thin, hairlines ones). It's appalling. They're everywhere, covering the entire screen. I grabbed my year-old 6 Plus and the screen has zero micro scratches anywhere.

Is this new 6s Plus cover glass stronger at the expense of scratch resistance? I'm still very taken aback by how bad my 6s Plus looks. Sure, I don't spend a lot of time in the sun, but boy does it look bad, especially with the screen off.

I have experienced the exact same issue. Really disappointed in the new glass..

You better look at the reviews first. Does nothing for dropped phones or scratches, etc. Waste of money. Below is some but many more by Googling it. So many gullible people today

Thanks for the warning. I've checked a lot of reviews and there are mixed reactions. I want to test the product myself. As I don't want to put a screenprotector on, there are no other alternatives to my knowledge. It cost me 12,00EUR (about 12,90USD) and I don't mind that amount, since my 64GB iPhone 6S was 859,00EUR here in the Netherlands (about 921,50USD). I'll just give it a try.

Just to add my two cents:
  • I have never put a screen protector or a case on my iPhone (and never smashed a screen, so why would I add something which was not intended for it)
  • I've always had Day1 release iPhones since the 5, kept for a year and then got the next one.
  • I have never noticed micro-scratches on any of the phones EXCEPT for with my 6s.
The 6s screen is definitely less scratch-proof than the previous models.
I sold my used 6 on eBay for almost the amount it would cost to buy a brand new one, regardless of the fact that it had never been put in a case or screen protected. It was immaculate (bulletproof?!)

However, with the 6s, already after less than 2 months of owning, there are loads of little micro-scratches on the surface of the screen which can be seen when a light is shining on it.
When the screen is turned on, it is less noticeable for sure.

My friend also got his 6+ (not 6s+) screen replaced by Apple a couple of weeks ago.
He immediately noticed that it was scratching really easily.

Something has definitely changed.

I'm wondering the same. I'm really blown away by how bad my 6s Plus looks. :(
I just got my 6S plus and I noticed on day 3 there was a ton of microscratches, my 6 didn't have this issue neither does my friends 6S, think its a production thing.. Going to apple store as instructed by apple support.

If you're bothered by scratches, there's only one thing to make sure you do. You gotta get a screen protector. Sure, it's a beautiful phone, but if you want to keep the scratches off, there's only one way.

yeah but I wasn't expecting this to happen this soon...

When I buy a new iPhone a glass screen protector goes on it the moment it's out of the box.In my experience of owning several Androids,iPhones they all scratch for some reason or other. There is no screen out there which doesn't scratch in daily use.Besides I really don't want to take the screen lottery on Apple's production issues

1 week and both my girlfriend's iPhone 6s plus and mine are already full of micro scratches. Wow my iphones last at least one year with me and never had any micro scratches. Apple must've screwed up something this time.

Getting it back for a return.

Having the same issue and already on my second phone. First one came with two deep scratches out of the box. It took some convincing but I got the local apple store to replace it. This second phone looked great (I checked before leaving) and now after only a couple weeks I have many tiny scratches on the top and bottom of the phone, which aren't a big deal, but this morning I found one major scratch on the screen. This one I can feel with my nail, it is a deep divot. I've never scratched an iPhone like this before and my old 5 I had for 3 (rough) years before upgrading to the 6s.

More people having the issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7242223

Anyone have any solutions or good stories from Apple? Not screen protectors, but replacements that then did not scratch? Or is this 100% of 6s phones?

OK, so the scratching issue is getting worse and worse on my 6s Plus. It's literally COVERED in hairline scratches now. I just grabbed my year-old (day 1!) iPhone 6 Plus, and it is PERFECT. Not a single scratch anywhere, after a year of abuse in my pocket.

Someone else has to be encountering this, surely? There has to be a reason why my 6s Plus is suffering this way...

I have the iPhone 6 plus & 6s plus. Like you my iPhone 6 plus doesn't have a single scratch on it after a years use but within days the iPhone 6s plus had scratches appear. Now 5 months on it is literally covered in scratches, it looks appalling. Early on I tried a screen protector & hated it so I got a wallet style case that covers the screen when not in use yet it's still covered in scratches & I don't even keep it in a pocket. This is my 4th iPhone and the first time I've had this issue. I sell my iPhone's to partly fund buying the latest release but the state of the screen will really decrease it's value & likely prevent me buying the next release.
