No, it wasn't.

When I first received my phone I read the reviews/saw the videos of "bendgate." I did my same 'test' and it was flush against the surface.

Like I said, it's not bad enough to complain or take it back. No need to attack everyone that did experience this issue.
You bent your iPhone and blame Apple for that ?

Ok, why is this other guy able to easily bend the 6S to the point the screen pops up (go to the 2:30 mark), but the original guy couldn't?

Is the first guy that weak or this guy is that strong?

Apple wouldn't cut their profit by a penny to make their phone out of a different material unless there was an issue that was costing them more (eg. bent iPhones being replaced). Same reason it goes from 16 to 64gb. If they can shave a penny from costs to put into profits, they will, not the other way round. This is bean counter 101 stuff...

Apple spend a ton on managing the perception of their products. That should be evident to fans and cynics alike. And the base iPhone is not 16GB to cut costs. It's 16GB to pressure buyers into the more profitable price tiers.

Everyone could bend a piece of aluminum and glass...
Those test are utterly ridiculous, but very popular on this forum

well did you watch the video of this thread. He wasn't able to bend it by himself, not until his friend helped him. In the video I posted, the guy was able to do it. It's really hard to tell how much pressure they're putting on these phones.

I think it's kinda ridiculous that people say there was no weakness problem. There clearly was a weak point between the volume buttons and power button. Just because 80% of people never over stressed the phone doesn't change that. I wouldn't want a phone that was just barely strong enough because that leaves no room for accidents like bumping into a table/chair/door or someone running into you etc. My dad flew a Cessna 411 for 9 years and that was an airplane with a notoriously poor record because the tail was too small to keep the airplane straight at low speeds. It obviously had a flaw but my dad made sure to keep it well away from the limits so he never had a problem. My dad could have said it was a great plane because he never had a problem o_O I for one am really glad Apple fixed a weak point.

Were did you take you "80%", I'm guessing straight from your imagination... And, I'm guessing that's the only way you can prove anything, starting with that imaginary 20% affected and then going on. If the premise has no basis in fact. It's not an argument you can demonstrate. Simple as that.

Also, weak is only relative to actual use. If you apply a hydraulic jack to a Iphone, even one made of 1 inch metal, it will bend... But was it weak for use in someone's pocket... No. Since that word is relative to whatever point of reference the person has defined, it tends to be abused quite a lot in rhetoric and should be avoided. There's a whole list of those kind of words that exist.

So, a baseless premise, the use of "weasel words" (google what it means) and than a non sequitur personal anecdote...
Yup, that must mean you speak "truth" (sic), no question.

I agree. Clearly some people, probably mostly bigger/heavier/stronger/clumsier/whatever people, had a problem. Apple was pushing to make everything thinner and lighter; eventually they reached a limit without changing their materials. People like me like some safety margin; I don't want to go through life with the sole purpose of protecting my cell phone-- things happen.

Hey I just threw a number out there I'll admit that. And I didn't say that 20% bent, I meant at least 80% were OK. But who knows it could be close if you ignore the regular iP6. But as far as weak, from what I can tell, all the phones that bent, bent at the same spot. So yeah, I'd say that is a weak spot. Again, let's be glad they are far stronger now.

That's the reason why I don't believe in any of those idiotic videos...
The only scientific controlled test done was Consumer Reports ' and it stated the iPhones 6 was fine.

I'm not pedantic. You tried to downplay iPhone 6 quality speaking of cheapest aluminum. It's not.
iPhone 6 is a quality premium product

Actually you're not being pedantic you're just flat out wrong. The 6000 series is the cheapest alloy they could have used. Anything cheaper just can't be reliably machined. Explain to us how that is not using the cheapest alloy. What allow could they have uses that is cheaper? Please tell us or stop saying that it's not true.

Some people seem to feel pointing out where Apple went wrong is a personal attack on them.

Probably because they dropped $700+ on the phone and they don't want to feel they've been ripped off.

So how are they not saving in the cost department by going with 16 instead of 32? Sure they want to up sell, but it does still cost less to put 16 in instead of 32. They still shaved a penny on 16 vs 32 and made more profit on 64. I can walk you through the math if you need it.

PS yes, I'm definitely tired of people digging for any excuse or reason to make Apple right and/or the detractors wrong. They are a business, they don't care if you defend them, they don't give you a discount for it. The only reason there is a stronger 6S is because people complained and returned bent 6's driving costs up. They wouldn't spend more on the BOM unless it would save them in the long run and/or make more profit.

So, we're sticking with the childish responses. Let's call it a day.
