H.265 is viewable on almost every computer made in the last few years, Mac and PC. Windows 10 has native support. VLC supports h.265 cross-platform. Plex Media Server supports h.265 cross-platform. Handbrake supports encoding h.265 video cross-platform.

I encode and watch h.265 video on my Macs and PCs on a regular basis.

I said MOST computers. What part did you not understand, dear? AND NO, IT IS NOT H.265. You should take your complaints to Apple, not me. Get a life.

Since this phone is basically 6, which was well reviewed, with almost everything upgraded, why would you expect some bad or even critical review? What kind of "scientific" review would even convince you? Running Geekbench a few time under a few conditions? This thing seemingly has enough power that I don't even know if there is a app out there that can test it meaningfully right now.
Measure color accuracy, measure brightness, measure battery life in different scenarios, measure performance, measure network speeds. Compare it with S6 or S6 Edge+. Not that hard.
This thing seemingly has enough power that I don't even know if there is a app out there that can test it meaningfully right now.
Now this is just ridiculous. Come on. We're not talking about some revolutionary lightning fast phone here.

Bet you that Joanna Stern won't be writing any major articles again. Patel would probably get major flak for that.
Nah. This isn't the first meh review she's done of an Apple product. And if Apple played that game The Verge wouldn't be reviewing any Apple products after their silly Watch production, er, review that involved like 30 people.

I'm holding out for those as well. For now, I'll skip this Apple propaganda.

As I said, those "propaganda" (which in fact are merely, superficial, user level reviews, what most people actually care about), mostly get the same conclusions as these more in depth reviews usually.

The use of the word propaganda shows you own bias than the reviews supposed bias.

You'll have to wait for Anandtech's or Arstechnica's reviews for that. They always take a while longer for that exact reason. But if the last 5 years are anything to go by, Apple doesn't drop the ball on anything usually and is pretty much near or at the top for most metrics (GPU benchmarks, CPU benchmarks, Display quality, Photo quality, Sound quality, etc.). I wouldn't worry about that.

When they do that I'll switch after eight years of iPhones (five iPhones) to another brand (which supports such a mute switch). (Or stick to iPhone 7 for many years.) I need that switch urgently 20+ times a day at work.
That may be the case for you, but for many people it will not. For instance I leave my phone on vibrate always. With the Apple Watch, this is even easier to do. It's inevitable that as these devices continue to simplify their design and get thinner, they would need to remove more physical controls that not only wouldn't be possible to physically fit, but would also free-up internal space for battery improvements as they squeeze out every available millimeter. I seriously doubt in several years that many phones will have many external buttons or controls. And the precedent is already set with the thinner iPads.

It's propaganda because obviously these journalists don't have full freedom of speech. Literally not a single review out there compares the camera with a different brand phone. I'm sure there are more restrictions on what these journalists were allowed to say and what not in exchange for early access to a review model.

No freedom of speech = propaganda to me. Ofcourse, I could be wrong and it could all be a coincedence, but I don't think so.

What about the display quality? The alleged reason why Apple only allowed this moving fish-background thingie for the 6S is that older (traditional) iPhone displays don't have the necessary deep blacks for this so the whole picture would look like washed-out and disillusioning. (or at least that's what I read somewhere in an interview with Jony Ive)

Just saw this review on the 6s Plus, no more lag it seems! (1:50 seconds in)

That was delightful - I'd like to have her come over and read aloud all the reviews :)

Side note: did the RG not look as pink in that video? Assuming that's just the lighting or something (and not pre-production units).

Mehh,I'll pass,I'm just already super bored with the chasis design of my iPhone 6..never liked it,and now it's painfully boring, the seeing likes of the gorgeous Gold Galaxy S6 Edge in people's hands..

really don't feel any enjoyment in buying something that looks the same, with just some performance improvements inside.

They should impress me and make a better looking phone with iPhone 7..also please ditch this pale boring metallic colors.they all suck except maybe space gray.

Well, take a look at the BlackBerry Storm and you will see that not all new models are better than the last. There is a possibility that at some point Apple will release a dud.

Blackberry Storm 2 was better than the Storm. The clickable screen on the Storm 2 was made into four separate areas instead of one plate. That allowed you to be more precise.

A better example would probably be the Note series. For some, the Note 4 is better than the Note 5 because of the removable battery and Microsd.

''obviously these journalists don't have full freedom of speech'' Yeah, obviously! You know things!

By the way, the Mashable review compares the camera to the Samsung's Edge.

I'm sure Anandtech will give you your answer. But frankly, the blacks on the 6 and 6 Plus were excellent for an IPS display. I feel 99% of users would not notice a difference.

If the Verge is moving away from scored reviewing with comments I think that's great. Too often the reviews are just full of comments from fanboys complaining that one phone got an 8.9 and a different phone got an 8.8. The scores were so subjective anyway.
How did you feel about their score of 9.0 for the 6S?

Nilay Patel says 3D Touch isn't useful but is really cool. Why is he allowed to do reviews?

I'm thinking the same thing and which is why I said in another reply that he will receive major flak for this.

That's like saying pinch to zoom and reverse pinch is not useful when most cell phones with touch screens, tablets, computer and even car infotainment use the feature today. Someone needs to ask him about his view on pinch to zoom and if he finds it useful or just cool.

I have a 6 and so won't be buying one but the touchID speed sounds amazing. Especially for Apple Pay although we don't have that in Canada yet for some reason. I don't care at all about 4k. In fact I likely would not ever turn it on just because of the file sizes. 3D touch sounds interesting, I will be curious to see if its as good as these guys make it seem because every other review I have read says it is confusing to use since you don't know where it will work and where it won't
I live in the US, but when I visited Windsor this past March, Apple Pay worked at so many more places than it does back home. I love that your restaurants bring the card reader to the table and don't walk away with your card like they do here.

I presumed that the early reviews of the 6s would be relatively postive. For me, unless my 6 somehow breaks or takes a dip in the water and dies completely, I'll probably sit the 6s out and wait for the 7. But for those that do upgrade, I'm sure it will be awesome.

So you're planning on waiting for the 7. But what exactly in the 7 will be the reason for you to upgrade? Why the 7 and not the 6s?

No tech reviewer is going to risk their credibility just to get access to a product early. Sure they'll abide by stuff like NDAs but if Apple was putting restrictions on what journalists could say in reviews there's no way that wouldn't get found out and it would be a huge scandal.

Well, the 7 will had a new design that's for sure. Maybe they'll cut the weight. Maybe they'll have higher resolution displays. Maybe they'll make you toast. Who knows.
