How did you feel about their score of 9.0 for the 6S?
I think numbers are stupid and just create dumb fanboy wars. The 6S gets a 9.0, some Android device gets an 8.9 or 9.1 and the comments sections are littered up with people complaining about the score.

I'm not actually sure I'll like that feature. As it is, I sometimes miss notifications because Touch ID works too quickly.

Isn't there an Android phone out there that can wake up its screen by a tap on the screen itself? That would be cool.

Just tap the home button with a finger that's not registered. Or hit the sleep/wake button.

Big shock that the verge liked an apple product.
I mean, it's probably a great product, but the verge would praise it even if it wasn't.

Absolutely! I could give two whits about scores. For me it's about responsiveness and letting me do things I need to do. Even if it had a geek bench score of 150,000 I would not care. Are there people here who are actually trying to find the next prime number with their phone?

I think Apple's response to this would be that they invented the on-off button for that. I use it in the same way as you, but this reeks of a "you are using the home button wrong" scenario.
I guess so. I hold my iPhone 6 in my left hand so I don't have as easy access to the power button. Still though I'm not planning on getting the S model, so maybe if enough people speak up they'll add a "slow down!" option to touch ID.

Blackberry Storm 2 was better than the Storm. The clickable screen on the Storm 2 was made into four separate areas instead of one plate. That allowed you to be more precise.

A better example would probably be the Note series. For some, the Note 4 is better than the Note 5 because of the removable battery and Microsd.

Yeah, maybe the Storm was not a good example. What a dreadful phone that was. The point I wanted to make was that we should not assume that every new product Apple makes is necessarily better than the previous version. At some point Apple will make a dud (and they have: The Cube for example).

Apple has become far more responsive. If this is a simple software adjustment, they might just do it.

That was delightful - I'd like to have her come over and read aloud all the reviews :)

Side note: did the RG not look as pink in that video? Assuming that's just the lighting or something (and not pre-production units).

Me too she has a pleasant voice :)
I thought that too it looked more copper to me, I think it changes depending on the light although I could be wrong.

Nah. This isn't the first meh review she's done of an Apple product. And if Apple played that game The Verge wouldn't be reviewing any Apple products after their silly Watch production, er, review that involved like 30 people.

What I mean is I just don't understand how the company they work for allow them to publish the stuff they do. Sometimes, things they say in their review can be misleading or turn people off from upgrading. Things like saying 3D Touch isn't useful to someone who was looking forward to it might make them not upgrade.

I don't care if the TouchID is faster; I just want it to work with my fingerprints reliably. Returned three 5S phones that all had the same problem. Hopefully the quality of this new sensor is improved dramatically.

Well, the 7 will had a new design that's for sure. Maybe they'll cut the weight. Maybe they'll have higher resolution displays. Maybe they'll make you toast. Who knows.

We know the 7 will have a new design and there will always be upgrades to the screen and more. But I'm just curious to know what makes someone say not this year the next year they will upgrade when they don't even know what exactly will be coming.

I upgrade every year because I feel that every iPhone to date has had a significant upgrade and is something that I use frequently.

Reviews are opinions. These people are put in these positions specifically to voice their opinions, because they (mostly) have solid backgrounds in consumer electronics or mobile computing.

They need to be honest (and they usually are), even if that has a negative effect on the company that produced the device. It can make or break a company. A little while after Apple introduced the iPad an Indian entrepreneur who could do better with a tablet. It was reviewed and was reported to be performing so bad (still a prototype even) that he went bankrupt. Gizmodo, The Verge and Engadget can combined make or break a company.

Reviews are out. iPhone getting rave reviews. Clearly being touted as best smartphone available by nearly all reviewers. And . . . stock down 2% today. Yes, market is down about the same amount. But seriously all these reviews which the market did not have access to before this morning should be a material indication of future Apple revenue. The stock "should" go up with this overwhelming positive additional information. I don't get it.

I put that guy on my ignore list. I enjoy the silence.

Moans about bad video compression on iPhone

Cites Youtube as source of good video compression

Probably investors are probably waiting for any "gate" issues that come up in the first 2 months.

That is the key. The phone is used so much it is worth it.

Let's run some basic numbers

With the cost of upgrading being about $300 bucks ($750 to buy new phone, sell old phone that was kept in case and is in great condition for $450) and the phone being possibly the most important piece of personal tech you own, upgrading really does make a lot of sense if you are U.S. middle class or better off. If you are on a tighter budget, then maybe saving the $300 this year makes sense. But by waiting another year to sell your 6 you also eat the depreciation of that phone's value during that year.

So how much do you save if you only wait one extra year? if you upgrade next year, then you sell your now one year older phone for $300, so cost next year is $450 to upgrade. So if you would have upgraded twice for total of $600 then waiting an extra year has really only saved you $150.

I have a 16gb Iphone 5 and I am thinking about a new phone. I downloaded IOS 9 and I really like it.

I would be a lot more willing to pony up premium dollars for an Iphone 6S if it had a BIGGER BATTERY. Who cares how thin it is. I want an ALL DAY PHONE!!! Especially for a premium price. And it wouldn't have cost much to add a bigger battery. Although it may have hurt Jony Ive's feelings....
I only manage to get a full day if I turn my brightness down. I have background refresh turned off, bluetooth only on when I need it, and close apps after use. And yet my iPhone 6 just doesn't manage to stay alive a whole day.

Imagine having a smart phone you can use properly without having to recharge it every 6 hours?

OK, you convinced me. Mrs peterdevries will stay on her Nokia 5110 and I will sell my iPhone 6 and order a 6s.

I understand that reviews are opinions but they have a duty to be accurate. If I say something like pinch to zoom, reverse pinch to zoom out or double tap to zoom isn't useful, an upgraded camera that has 2 times better low light performance isn't useful though an opinion it would not only be inaccurate it would be a lie. Which brings me back to to my main point. They turn people away and hold them back from purchasing products because of how they personally feel about a product or feature and not the actual truth.

Early geek bench scores indicate the A9 is the fastest SoC available. Slightly edging past the SGS6 Edge's multi core score and dominating the single core score.

The A9 is a dual core besting 8 cores from Samsung and Nvidia's tablet SoC Tegra K1!

All the while the A9 runs cooler and throttles much less. Apple's SoC engineering talent is in a class of its own.

certainly the best ever S upgrade

bring on friday

I'd say the 3GS still ranks as the biggest s upgrade ever. The jumps in speed and camera were so much more meaningful than the jump from 6 --> 6s because the 3G was noticeably lacking in those areas in everyday use, which the 6 is not.

From what i've seen the 4k looks like garbage after it's been edited and compressed and put on youtube. I think we are so used to bitrates of 1080p, increasing storage demands of 4k mean it'll look much much worse than 1080p does and will do for a long time. The compression artefacts are just dire, especially on moving images. i wish 1080p and 4k had minimum bitrates or changeable bitrates for consumers to choose. It's like 1080p web vs 1080p blu ray, the difference is huge IMHO. 4k compressed like this is a downgrade for sharing video. You really need a super clean high bitrate version to edit, much like MKBHD or Unbox Therapy they use epic red etc and youtube 4k looks pretty good even with movement.

You can wake up the screen by the power/wake sleep button, when you are after just notifications.
