They weren't very helpful. I gave them my serial number, and this was his reply: this was after I said I was chatting with him because I haven't yet confirmed it. He couldn't tell me by giving him the serial number. He made me provide the link so even he didn't know about the battery replacement.

Jeth:I understand upon checking on that link it says “If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device's serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.”

The people at the  store should be able to get a better look and will determine when your phone shuts down.

If you are going to try turning background apps refresh off, please, leave some feedback here. My iPhone 6S works fine after I've done this. Some of my friends did this too and for now they don't have any sudden shut-downs.
Apple suggests to use Low Power Mode. It's another option.

Turning off App Background Refresh didn't help to cure the shutdowns at 10-15% either. I replaced the 6S's battery myself with one from iFixit before that.

Really? 19 pages of this thread says otherwise. People have been sent home without the issue being resolved. Diagnostics didn't show up the issue. Online chat said it was software. I'd have little faith if I were you.

Man apple support is going down hill!

took the phone in to "Genius" Bar..... told restore would fix it.... it didn't!

Contacted Apple Support on the phone yesterday .... after an hour on the phone was told it was a software issue in 10.1.1 and would be fixed in 10.2

less than 12 hours later a recall is issued.... checked the date of manufacturing and it is in the date range mentioned.

Contacted Apple support again and was told this time I need to take it back to the "Genius" bar ..... BUT... they have no appointments free in the 3 apple stores in the area this week. another 45 minutes wasted!!

Told to call back to try and arrange a "genius" appointment.

i think it is both a software and hardware issue. Before the battery replacement i had shutdowns at 40-50%, now the phone shuts off at 10-15%
I will now try if the phone runs down to 1% using low power mode.

As OP, an update!
Heard about recall this morning (thanks MacRumors! ;)) and contacted Apple. My serial number matches so they're fixing it.
I'm first in U.K. apparently! No doubt others as the recal gets more publication.

Do you have to take it into an Apple Store? When I contacted Apple this morning they told me to take to an apple store, but there are no appointments available in my area.

First on this program, maybe. Other people from the U.K. had their phones replaced for that problem.

Nice to see they've come out and admitted a fault but mine is experiencing the same problems and was manufactured in March 2016 so it's not only limited to dates they provided.

Week, yes that's what I meant, first on recall.

Phoned them up, they're sending UPS etc. Was painless when they did my MacBook and iPad earlier this year. Hopefully have it back for the weekend.
Will have to dig out my old iPhone 5 to use for a few days!

FFS .... they told me I HAD to go into an apple store and there was no other option. I specifically asked if there was any other option as there were no appointments available for me to take the thing into one of the local stores

Joy! another phone call is due!

I booked an appointment on Wednesday at Apple Regent Street, haven't thought about finding a replacement phone.

No way they do it while you wait?

Go through the support link (see MR article link to Apple) and go through the stages to get to the support page. I guess you need to get to an advisor who knows about it. You may have got unlucky with advisor you got.

Got my iPhone 6S booked in for an appointment today at Covent Garden, London.

Would have thought it will take a few hours, depending on how busy they are, so will hopefully have it back by the end of the day with the problem fixed!

I don't have much faith that a battery replacement will fix it whenever others on here states otherwise, and I had no trouble until ios10 came out. I'll be over in that area Wednesday so I'll swing by the store.

Anyone knows if this covers iPhone 6s Plus too?

They told me it doesn't. Mine is a 6s plus and turned off last night (and previously too at 18% and 10%) however i tend to use beta software so put it down to that. I just called and asked and she said 6s only :)
