Just had my Genius Bar appointment in Covent Garden. Unfortunately, the guy said they've had so many people taking this up that they'd run out of batteries!! Now have to return again on Sunday.....

:(

I'm going Wednesday morning. My 4 & 5 digits are QD so the battery will be replaced. It sure is weird though that it didn't start happening until ios 10, with mine anyway. I wonder what they will do if people keep having the same issues even after the battery is replaced?

Mine and my wife's phones, both are QQ and we have the same problem. Last time it turned off at 33%
When I tried to turn it on, the empty battery logo has appeared. Next try turned it on, but it shut downed again in just a several seconds. On 7th try I managed to activate Low power mode so it remained alive till 1%. The problem started with iOS 10 upgrade. I did restore through DFU mode which managed to secure the situation for 2-3 weeks but the problem is back now. Yesterday I did 2nd DFU restore and will wait a couple of days for recurrence

So, I called support just now & was told even though I'm out of warranty by 2 months...they are exchanging my 6s

Support said as of todAy they recognize there is an issue.

Interesting. Mine has been out of warranty for two months as well so I wonder if they will swap it out or just replace the battery. Did your serial number fall in that range?

I have QF same problem. It would shut down at 30% for no reason. Plugged into charger and after reboot battery would should 30%. Definitely not normal.

My serial is "QF"

My first appointment with the Genius Bar last week diagnostic said battery green 94%, 175 cycles

So I'm guessing it's not the battery....

I have my appt @ the store later this afternoon. Will let you know if they swap

will wait and see if mine does it anymore, i was running iOS beta both times i have seen it go off. so will see what happens.

My 6S+ was 10.1.1 or whatever latest official was. It was weird. Would just kick off despite showing like 30% or whatever.

There's a bigger problem here than what's being admitted to.

I upgraded to the 7 from the 6S because of the random shutdowns, but this will be my last iPhone. I brought them my 6S and showed them it would die, and their advice was to restore the phone and suck it up. I wish I never traded in my 6S because I actually miss having both a charging port and headphone jack (and **** dongles for the phone).

If only Android today were like the iOS of yesterday in terms of battery life and usability. The Pixel is not really an iPhone competitor.

Welp, I'm taking mine in to the SoHo Apple Store around lunchtime tomorrow.

The shutdown issue has struck me twice in the past few weeks. Phone just dies with 70% battery life remaining. Upon attempting to restart, the battery indicator either shows the device as being fully discharged, or some seemingly random number between the actual charge level and 0%. The device is only able to stay powered on for a few moments before dying again. Connecting to a power source fixes the problem.

My 6S's serial number does fall within the affected range. Like some others here, the issue didn't start happening until I updated to iOS 10.1.1. Guess we'll see tomorrow.

Just finished my Genius Bar appt.

Replacing battery only.

Although they have none in stock.

On order.

Did any of you erase your phone and turn off find my iPhone before the swap?

I think you're suppose to. I think I'll let them erase my data and such, but I'll back it up to computer beforehand just in case, even though I just did it this weekend.

Mine is getting replaced right now. They said 2 hours.

Good thing I'm going at 10:50 then. I'll shop some and go eat some lunch. I didn't realize it would take that long.

FWIW, went to the Apple store tonight (montreal, canada). Brought my iPhone 6s, serial is a QF, was told that it wasn't eligible and that in my case, the next update would fix it. Wtf....

Why do they always have to lie?
