iPhone 6S Plus 128gb, Space Gray. Samsung s8000. Having overheating issues. Not sure if it's related to the CPU.

Hey, you wouldn't happen to have or mind grabbing Geekbench 3 and seeing what scores you get, would you? So far you're the only one I've noticed who definitely has the 65 Plus and a different chip.

Don't mind me. I'm just sitting here laughing while I read this thread.
It really is like watching a massive car crash; I don't even have a 6s(whatever) so I'm not even sure why I started reading in the first place. Except I knew some absurdity would start.

How are these overheating issues manifesting themselves?
I'll tell you my story - I restored from backup (6s jailbroken) didn't want to lose game data - with background and location apps setting off - my phone 6s+ was hot even when it was idle

My wife's 6s+ set up as new (she is an android convert) no issues with heat or slowness

I ended up running Cydia Impactor to remove the jailbreak, backing up and then restoring that copy to my 6s+ and my overheating is gone.

Space Grey iPhone 6s Plus here with Samsung S8000 chip. Guess I'm an oddball for 6s+

Geekbench score:

2523 single core
4388 dual core

You da real MVP. Finally someone who meets all of the criteria for the post I'm looking for: your model, your chip, and GB results.

I'll run mine again real quick. I have the TSMC on my 6s Plus

Geekbench Scores

First run (couple pages ago)

2491
4409

Second run (now)

2453
4398

You've definitely got me on the single core, and we might be almost close enough for there to not be a consistently significant difference on the dual core.

Whoa whoa whoa. There's a jailbreak out? I coulda sworn I just looked like yesterday lol.

I ran side by side with a guy at my office who has the TSMC chip and mine beat his in Geekbench by ~150 pts consistently.

Considering a guy on this thread got about the same score as you with a TSMC, there are other factors at work here don't you think... I really find the whole thing funny.

The fact you mention 150 points as linked is also really funny, the differences are likely within the margin of error of the normal chip variation, not that large.

Not doubting what you are seeing but I get the same inconsistent result on my phone and that's expected as we don't know what background process are running before you run your tests.
see below - same 6s+ yesterday and just now.

Thanks everyone - I am having a blast with this discussion :p

I realize 150 points is an error margin. Just sharing data points.

I could have given you all my reasons for holding off but to have done so would have encountered a TL/DNR response.
Some of us do like Apple products. Some very much. Some of us arent apologists for every flaw within.

Wow...just wow. Keep up with the apologist angle...it fits you well!

Its that you actually made a big deal of this, which makes me wonder what sort of other things you make a big deal of your life, this isn't even a non-issue, its a non-issue-non-issue and you're using as a reason not to buy and calling me an apologist in defence hahaha

People finding out TSMC or Samsung, you trust installing a profile to make that happen??

I wish there was a cleaner method to

Cooler ? I bet less than 1'C of difference
Less battery ? I would laugh at the difference
Run faster ? And for what reason ? If the chip is the same, a different manufacturing process doesn't imply any speed difference....
Smaller die size runs cooler, cooler chips can run at higher speed they also take longer to start throttling due to heat. It's probably probably insignificant but doesn't change the fact smaller die is usually better.

It's not that I think it matters, but for reference:

Mine is an 128gb 6s with Samsung chip
2546
4425

My husband's is a 128gb 6s with TSMC chip
2531
4405

I don't see what the big deal is. If the iPhone functions, and performs, as desired and expected, why would anyone care about which chip the iPhone has, and want to return/exchange for a different one?

The numbers so far look like standard error deviations, some so small as to be laughable. Even if there were a statistical difference in geekbench score there is little reason to believe that it will actually impact the specs of the device or real-life performance.
