Guys, at what time do preorders start? I know it's September 12, but is there an actual timeframe? As in 12:01? Is that what it is?

If so, I'm assuming Pacific time?

Appreciate the help in advance.

In the past it has always been 3:00AM eastern time zone.

Sorry, phones will arrive on Friday the 19th. On every Iphone release with pre-orders, the phone has arrived on release day. no different this time around.

That's if you order early. You wait 12 hours to preorder, you may not get it on the 19th.

Just checked in with the Apple Store chat people and they say they will ship Friday. They MAY get to your door that day or (probably more likely) on Saturday. They'll of course come quick but not a sure thing.

Also according to him they are not doing in store pick up reservations but if you select in store pick up it'll basically just mean you prepaid. ie - hope they have a phone in stock that you can get.

From experience, the chat people and other Apple employees often don't know what they're talking about when it comes to a lot of things, especially those related to launch day. That being said, I highly doubt the phones will be shipping on 9/19, especially since the shipped units have always originated in China. I don't think they'll be delivered by Saturday. More likely, they'll begin their transglobal journey starting on or around 9/12 and arrive at your door ON LAUNCH DAY, as has always been Apple's practice.

There would be anarchy in the stores if people pre-ordrerd and Apple were "hoping" they could get you one. The pre-order goes live a week before pick up, preorders will get delivery to store of the exact amount of pre-orders and then an allocation of stock for on the day purchase.

Wow, I agree with this. That would be insane. Gong by the level of OCD, I would think it could be dangerous. Unsafe. And with all that glass in the stores.......

I know. I've always got it in the mail on the launch day but Phil did say SHIP and then the chat guy confirmed. Hoping for the best, if not, another day isn't going to kill anyone! (but it does sort of suck)

Chat with "them" again and I bet you'll get a different answer.

And there will be threads with people tracking planes from Asia. There will be panicked threads from people who dont' see a status change on their phone. (Which will suddenly become active at a US distribution center midweek.) People will hound and harass Fed Ex drivers to give them their package early. People pester the people at the distribution site trying to get their device early. People will miss deliveries or have their package go somewhere else and rant and rave that Fed Ex/UPS is terrible. There will be a dozen 'got it' threads on Friday afternoon followed by the inevitable 'it's great!/'it sucks!'.

Wash, rinse and repeat.

so true!

Be online at 255AM EDT and you should be good.

This is hilarious and so true.

When they say shipped they don't mean shipped from China to your house. They mean from the closet UPS/FedEx hub to your house. Preorders are this Friday so they know where to send all of those phones. Then on the 19th (in the early AM), FedEx/UPS will take those iPhones to your local FedEx/UPS center which will then put it on a truck probably around 5-6am and bam lift off!

Yep, 3AM EST is looking like the time, just as it is every year. Be sure to do a practice run-through so you know what info you need. The site WILL be slow, it will freeze, it will kick people out. But it will also let a certain number of people order phones. Be as quick as you can and get an order confirmation in your inbox to be safe. You have a very limited time window, and a stable internet connection is your greatest ally, because it can be hard to tell if it's the site that isn't working or your internet connection. :apple:

What information do we need to preorder the tmobile iphone 6? Do we need an actual tmobile account?

These threads consistently crack me up every single time an iPhone is released...

If your preorder says that it will ship on 9/19, you're getting it on 9/19. In fact, I was on the phone with Verizon simply confirming that their phone lines would be open at 12 Pacific, and she told me (I didn't ask) that you'll get your phone on 9/19.

Att website says Preorders will begin on 9/12/14 at 12:01 PST

He is just using the word "ship" generically to simplify things. Early pre-orders will arrive on the 19th, just like they always have.

Apple WANTS you to pre-order! They want you to be happy and not come to the store where you will wait on long lines, overload the already overloaded staff, and potentially be unhappy. There will be plenty of people waiting in line, but they don't want the headaches of the iPhone 4 (I think) and iPad 2 no pre-order debacles!

On another note, they do like queues outside the store because it makes for GREAT publicity. No other phone launch comes close etc etc.

Bawahahahhahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Hahaha...exactly. Yet Apple will never be able to replicate the pain and torture that Google creates when they release a Nexus phone. The Nexus 4 pre-order fiasco was outrageous.

Correct. In executive-speak, "ship" usually means when consumers will get their hands on the product.

In the past, I found that if the web site acts goofy, the Apple Store app usually works lightning quick.

This is the first year I'm going to bypass waiting in a line and just preorder instead, working from home will be an added bonus!

Question - I've only ever activated my new phone in-store at Apple or AT&T. What's the process like from home?

Whenever you turn on your new iPhone for the first time once you receive it, that's when it automatically starts the number transfer process and activation process for you.

From the FAQ at the bottom of the page on Apple's site here:

When I buy from the Apple Online Store, does my iPhone come ready to use?
Yes, if you have selected an iPhone for use on AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. When your iPhone arrives, all you have to do is turn it on and follow the onscreen instructions to set it up. If you have selected an iPhone for T-Mobile, it will come with the appropriate nano-SIM, but you will need to contact T-Mobile or visit an Apple Retail Store to activate your iPhone. If you have selected an unlocked GSM phone, you can insert your own nano-SIM card or obtain one from the supported GSM carrier of your choice and activate it in order to use your iPhone.

Signature required for delivery? I'm teaching during the day and won't be home. Is there any way I can call FedEx and instruct them to leave it on my porch?

No, the only way they'll leave it on your porch is if you're there waiting for them.

Lets be clear here thee fellow idiots of apple nerds. Its a phone. Not a tablet. If you are over 6 feet 2 inches tall and your thumb reaches the bottom of a beer bottle while your pointer finger reaches the glorious beer gullet at the same time you qualify for: A HUGE PHONE TABLET.

IVE MADE MOST OF YOUR DECISIONS FOR YOU!!!!!!! **** YOU.

Thank you. I guess I will force someone in my house to stay home and wait for it as I don't think I can take a day off of work.

It might be possible to have the phone held at a Fedex location (if it comes Fedex). I've done that with other Fedex packages. If you have your tracking number, you are usually given the option to have it held.
