Yes that is true. I ordered through apple. On Apple it still says preparing for shipment but when you look up on ups on the reference number (billing # or phone #) my phone landed in Anchorage today. It left China yesterday and will be delivered on Friday.

so I was thinking....for att users who ordered the jet black it says "preparing for shipping" so att is waiting for the batch of iPhones from apple and once the iPhones arrive does that mean they're going to ship them so thats why they're "preparing" for shipping? interesting thought

They either have their allotment are currently being shipped in today or tomorrow.

What they did is guess essentially. Their "estimated" dates are based on how many phones per week/period they though Apple would give them.

So say they expected 10,000 black Plus 32gb version for launch to ship by the 16th. At 10,001 the dates shifted back to the next week up to say 20,000. Then 20,001 to the next week.

Now if Apple ships ATT 15,000 then great, ATT will send out 5,000 earlier than the dates they said. If ATT only ships 10,000 then ATT says, well we told you the 2nd week! If Apple sends less well some people see their dates drop back, but that seems to be rare.

The issue is ATT doesnt know before taking preorders. It's just a stupid system all around.

I pre-ordered one for my wife once i saw the banner for the free 7 with 6 trade in. My question is, i didn't get any info regarding trading my 6 in once i placed the order, the details link about the trade in said if i order online i will receive an email with instructions on trading my phone in. I never got that email. It also said, "good working condition", what exactly does that mean? Her phone is in good working condition and has always been in a case but it is an iPhone 6 and is now two years old, there are some signs of normal wear and tear. Am i guaranteed the full $650 as long as it is in good working condition. Nowhere in the details did it say, "up to $650", so am i too assume there won't be any reduced credit amounts or haggling required?

Agreed! very dumb system...

I'm getting a different error when checking for my order. It might indeed be updating. Here's hoping!

I don't know if anyone's talked about this but I'll share my expirence. I went in Wednesday the 7th and payed off my 6 plus and wanted to talk about the 7 plus. They had me fill out a paper with credit card info and phone info and other info. It's called the "iPhone presale form" so basically I preordered the preorder. Friday before they opened they pre ordered it for at 6 am.

When I was the store the women helping me said the phone will arrive on launch day or sometimes the day before. She said that's what's happened every year so far. So I hope she's right.

I'd be more mad that she was wrong than me not getting the phone on launch day. But who knows!

Ok, from what I've read, ATT only ships from their warehouse/fulfillment center in Dallas, which would mean that no ATT iPhone order will show up on UPS tracking (even with reference tracking) until it reaches the Dallas center from Louisville.

Yup that would make sense. The order page must be down for some maybe because they are updating stuff on the backend.

I pre ordered the 7+ 128, Once I get it, I have 15 days to go to a AT&T store and give my 6+ to them.
The 7+ 128 is $29 for the next 30 months. But after 2-3 billing cycles, I will get a credit of 21.67 every month.
So Basically I am Paying 7.33 for the 7+.
Pretty Awesome Deal for a 2 year old phone.

Possibly, yes. I suppose Apple orders show up earlier in UPS's tracking system because they ship from China to the destination/hub in Louisville and many ship right from there to more regional fulfillment centers closer to where the group delivery sorting is pointing to, but all within the UPS system. Other carriers such as ATT seem to have their own fulfilment centers that UPS hands off to for inventory check, then out of the fulfillment center back to the carriers for delivery.
