Apple seems to be doing a good job creating misdirection this time around. I remember with the 5s and 6 we practically knew for sure every new change that would be coming around this period before the launch.

Yeah, I know it would suck if you had to wait until next year so a little wishful thinking can go a long way to keep you happy this summer.

Apple should honestly "leak" some real information about the iPhone 7 because all these "rumors" have it sounding like a complete dud. If the iPhone 6s ended up failing to sell well as a product then the iPhone 7, so far, isn't a stunning return for the company.

If I were Apple I would seriously NOT release an iPhone this year, build up excitement and anticipation for another year and put some real R&D into the 7 instead of releasing another also ran product.

Why wouldn't you sell an iPhone this year?
The only time they waited more than 12 months was between iPhone 4 and 4s, but they didn't skip 2011 they just postponed the announcement a few months.
Everyone expects the new phone to be announced in September, a lot of people are still on 24 months instalment plans and are going to upgrade their iPhone 6 and 6+ this fall. iPhone 7 may be a disappointment for somebody, but it will be a good upgrade coming from iPhone 6, let alone more RAM, a faster CPU, 3DTouch and better camera.
It won't be an enticing upgrade for people owning the 6s like me, but that doesn't mean it will be a complete flop.
Maybe they'll sell a few millions iPhone less than last year and will have better sales in 2017, they can survive that.

Yes, they could handle that. Expectations of Wall Street are already coming down to a more realistic level, and stock prices will stabilize. And don' t underestimate the upgraders from the iPhone 5s and 6/+, and take into account there are still a lot of people using a 4/s and 5, that will upgrade too. This could also spur demand of the SE even more.
The question is: will these upgraders from the 2 year cycle and earlier choose for the iPhone 7 or for the 6s and SE? The 6s and SE are certainly still fast enough for the next 2 years.

But Apple seems to leak all this stuff about the iPhone 7 to prepare us for a not so exciting release, and the rumors about the iPhone 2017 are already here. I guess stock prices won' t go up a lot when the iPhone 7 is released, but will soar from the iPhone 2017 release. And isn' t that convenient when Apple declared even more stock buybacks for this year? Get it cheap, release the iPhone 2017 after that, creating another super cycle and Apple stock will rocket.
I wouldn' t be surprised if Apple announces that they will expend the stock buyback program even further till Q2 2017.

And at the same time, revenue of other products: Apple services and Apple Watch(releasing watch 2) , Mac (new MacBook Pro)will increase quite a bit.
My advice, buy Apple stock when it is still under $100, I see a hughe upside from q4 2017 and beyond.
