Best news I've heard all year. ;-)

And what will you do when flagship Android phones drop the headphone jack?

I'm pretty sure Android phone manufacturers won't be dropping the 3.5mm until the see the potential backlash Apple will receive if they do end up eliminating it and the effects it might have on iPhone sales. Considering the fact that it would render millions of headphones and earbuds useless, it would also piss off people who use an aux cable in their cars.

By removing the 3.5mm headphone jack from the iPhone, Apple will really be testing the loyalty and patience of many of its customers. Obviously the fanboys will blindly defend their decision and find ways to justify it, but Tim Cook's greed (removing the jack is most likely a money-based decision) and overall lack of vision will come back to bite Apple in the ass just like it did in the 90s.

I am really hoping for stereo speakers to be implemented, similiar to the iPad Pro versions. I use my speaker phone a lot on my phone for calls, music and video's. The enhanced sound would be much appreciated. I am using the iPhone SE currently, and the speaker is sub par at best. I would like to think they would introduce stereo speakers in place of the deleted headphone jack. Time will tell.

Maybe. I would like to keep the headphone jack, but I want to see the solution. What if iP7 comes with a small Bluetooth box to which you can attach your headphones?

I agree completely. Remember what happened when they had the bright idea on the first iPhone to make the 3.5mm jack recessed? Look how that turned out, and they didn't have near the mobile market share they have now.

Better idea remove volume buttons no need when you can just use the screen to adjust the volume and move headphone jack in its place now you have room for stereo speakers.
The volume buttons take up much less interior space than the headphone jack.

Knowing Apple it's unlikely unfortunately. They gave MacBook users no alternative to optical media when they started killing those drives in their Mac lineup. Phil Schiller remarked that users 'still have computers that are 5 years old which is sad' at the last keynote. Soon it will be "People who use wires to listen to music are pathetic" lol.

They want to force their idea of innovation on everybody. I run Mavericks on my Macs because my pro audio equipment which really isn't that old and does the job well above the standards many ask of it doesn't work on Yosemite and up. It's a business decision sometimes for their partners (other software devs) and themselves. They're not going to donate Bluetooth boxes. It'd be nice though lol.

I've said it before - if they eliminate the headphone socket, then I will be buying the next Moto X Force (or some other Android unit with a headphone socket).

For my use, the headphone socket is essential.

So you will accept something less than a flagship phone in the event the Android flagships likely also drop the headphone jack?

Eliminate the headphone jack and then how does Apple expect to listen in the car? Not everyone has CarPlay or Bluetooth or up to date Bluetooth like my car.

Better idea remove volume buttons no need when you can just use the screen to adjust the volume and move headphone jack in its place now you have room for stereo speakers.

You buy an adapter for the car. Might cost as little as $10 from a third party. Or buy a $20 BT adapter. The car is the least problematic place to solve this problem.

"Pretty sure"?

I guarantee Apple is not removing the headphone jack arbitrarily. They are most likely doing it because they are pushing the boundaries of what features they can introduce into the new phones through miniaturization and battery improvements. If Apple is facing this, then you can bet the other flagship handset manufacturers are facing it as well. I would also bet Apple has research to back up user habits informing such a move. The backlash will likely be vocal, but from a minority of customers -- at least the customers who will be buying Apple's flagship phones.

And for those whom it would affect, the reasons you indicate are minor inconveniences ... it would not "render millions of headphones and earbuds useless", as a simple inexpensive inline dongle would accommodate any pre-existing headphone or Aux-jack, or just use the brand new Lightning earbuds Apple will likely include in the box. For the car, that's even easier. I bought a $20 BT adapter for my car a year ago, and it improved my whole experience, since I didn't have to mess around with wires overtime I got into and out of the car with my phone.

But your concern is one of the reasons I'm against adding stereo speakers, because then it means Apple is removing the headphone jack in the absence of any industry need to do so, which will most certainly backfire on them.

So If this happens, then yes, Android will follow shortly thereafter with Apple leading the way as usual. Or, I will be back here telling you were right, just as disappointed in Apple's move as you are now without giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Now that subsidies are gone for AT&T is going to take a lot to motivate me to upgrade from my 6. I still feel like my 6 is a new phone (minus the spider web crack going through the screen).
From the rumors we are seeing currently, there is nothing in the 7 that entices me enough to upgrade from the 6. If these rumors are completely off base and a bunch of new features end up being added or my phone blows up, that would obviously change but I'm really looking for Apple to reduce the size of the device and to have wireless at a distance. Short of that, I'm not sure there is any point for an upgrade to me.

To me, the iPhone has progressively become more bland. You're paying $700+ for a device that now looks like some cheap knockoff.
Where's the refined beauty? The attention to detail of chamfered edges that came with the original iPhone 5?
Where's the absence of ugly plastic antennae bands?

Calm down mate, it's a likely fake, and if it is authentic, I highly doubt the finished product would look as unfinished as in the image. Hold on the Apple's Changed! posts until we at least see an official image.

There will be no noticeable improvement between the SE and a new iPhone that's even thinner. There is no such thing as a high quality mobile phone speaker, only degrees of bad. Having stereo speakers on the bottom of your phone, two inches apart, is not going to make a bit of difference to your spatial appreciation of anything, especially when watching a video. And since phone calls are mono anyway, two speakers would be completely pointless. There might be an incredibly weak argument for music, but it is certainly not worth removing the 3.5mm headphone jack to do it ... or really anything else customers currently use -- the iPhone is NOT an iPad in any sense as far as audio is concerned.

Not the same thing at all.

The chamfered edges that people complained about being too fragile and easily chipping? I guess Apple could resurrect the iPhone 5C design and then plastic antenna bands wouldn't be needed. But honestly if they're working on a much bigger redesign that isn't ready (OLED screen, no physical home button etc) then it doesn't make much sense to radically redesign the 6S for one year.

Is there any point to making it thinner than it already is? Its comfortable, easy to carry, there is no additional aesthetic benefit to it being thin as an iPod Touch. What Apple needs to focus on is better battery life, a larger battery, graphical issues in the iOS UI. Also more options to customize iOS would be welcome such as deleting bundled apps, eliminate the 16 GB model and replace it with a 32 GB base model who just need that extra room without needing 32 GB. Also, include functions like OIS in the standard model.

Agreed. The only thing I'd like to see is a better screen to body ratio, and reduced bezels on the plus. But the thickness is fine.

You really don't know how subsidies worked? You were still paying full price for the phone with subsidies, just in installments.

The connector is going to be for things like docks, so can put it in a dock to charge even faster. No need to align the lightning port now...

Bad news? Probably means no wireless charging...
