based on this, your hunch is correct..

That video is crazy. Repeated dunks in the water at five minutes a time and then at maximum depth the river will allow (35 feet) and it is STILL alive and working - while not 100% perfect - for a non waterproof phone that is astonishing. How many people would trust a waterproof case at that depth for that length of time?

Bravo Apple. You can take it to the beach/pool/around water without panic. If it falls in water a small in and out dunk is not going to do it any harm. I am imaging the crazy photos you can take with that + dual camera now.

I have gone from "meh" about the phone to seriously desiring it, all thanks to a few Youtube rich kids trying to obliterate the iPhone in water.

I read it's almost nothing. $1 per 100k views?
Used to be around $1 per 1000 views, but is quite a bit lower now. There is no set figure though, what type of advertisers your content attracts has a massive impact on your earnings.

That is why the estimates on sites like SocialBlade varies so much. The view counts are accurate though:

As I mentioned in an earlier post most YouTubers have several other income sources as well in addition to the ad revenue.

All these vloggers trying to destroy the new iPhone every year is just saddening.

Why?

The information is valuable because we can all see what conditions these phones can withstand. The iFixit teardowns are also great for looking at serviceability.

The one and only time I got a phone wet was many years ago, when I dropped my Motorola StarTac into a public toilet at a conference in Albuquerque.

It was in a case hooked to my belt loop, and I bumped it as I was in a stall. Luckily, the toilet was clean, because I was reaching in after it even as it was still falling! It felt like everything was in slow motion, with me yelling "nooooooo...!" as my hand followed.

Yes, I still remember it vividly. But the phone survived.
I think I was in the next stall over, wondering what happened.

Now, I know... :O ;)

Wow, these drop tests are amazing. Guys are dropping the phone screen first onto concrete from seven feet and the screen isn't cracking! I would not have believed that was possible. I think I'd still get a thin plastic case if I buy a 7. But I'm blown away and cases might be completely unnecessary with these new phones.

Here's my mom's reaction when we tested out her new iPhone:

That is hysterical. But a little mean. Funny family moment though.

Why? Why? Why? As u pointed at the beginning of this article, there is people waiting for those phones and here we go another phone destroyed to show what? The insides that nobody will ever see. Please stop destroying phones and instead give them away to your fan base and readers, I am pretty sure that they will appreciate them very much
What? I appreciate when people do these video torture tests.... I watched an iPhone 7 vs Samsung what ever (their waterproof one) and the iPhone 7 actually did better in the 30ft test depth.....the Sammy died, iPhone still going strong. I'm totally satisfied with the water "resistance" of the new phone.

Right... In theory...
Considering the non rated Apple Watch was much much better than actually rated Samsung products, I'm going to say that Samsung's actually worse just on a hunch...

Maybe someone should do a comparison test.

Thus if you wait until late November or December to buy an iPhone your chances of getting a perfect unit rise dramatically. Plus there is a better selection of cases, and case manufacturers often have fit issues with early production cases, so there's yet another reason to wait.
FUD! There is no study showing that anything you said here holds water..... Well maybe the amount of cases but the part about getting a better phone by waiting is simply FUD.

I didn't say you get a better phone by waiting. I said you're chances of getting a phone with manufacturing "bugs" or defects goes down if you wait.

Obviously I cannot cite a study since only Apple has such information. But it is certainly true that they implement fixes to the assembly process based on analysis of returned iPhones. There were articles about this back when the 6 was released, but we don't even need articles since it's the same for any manufactured product. Mass production is not and cannot be bug free at a product's release because the incidence of some bugs is so small that they only show up after mass production starts.

Most time, when Apple says WATERPROOF, it actually MEANS it.
Even when they don't say it (like for the 6s and especially the first gen Apple Watch), it usually is anyway.

Many claims done by the competition, including Samsung, seems almost to be scams : once they got your money it doesn't seem matter what happens and anyway, getting your money back is next to impossible (cause we don't stand behind our product). Samsung's customer service record is particularly woeful in general. In the "Note 7" case they had to act because of immense liability and PR damage they'd have if they didn't act.

If water doesn't get in, it can't really corrode anything and the spot were it did get in you likely can wash it out fast enough to keep damage to a minimum even if it was there a while. In fact, dropping it into a warm tank of distilled water for awhile would be the best way to clean out the phone of any salt.

People has swam in the ocean for 18 months with the supposedly not waterproof first series Apple Watch.
Ok I guess

Every time I see this word in bold, I simply cannot...I have to correct it. I'm sorry.

It's regardless.
It was done on purpose. Bananas.
