Do you remember anyone saying "oh you guys, how about you stop changing things for the sake of changing things" at the announcement of the iPhone 4?

No. Everyone was like "OMFG Apple has done it again please take my money".

That's exactly the feeling that we're sorely missing now.
The iPhone 4 did not function differently than the previous iPhones. It only had sharper screen and new build... but you used it the same way. Changing the home button will change how the phone functions.

Only problem is that I'm not camera crazy. I was hoping for a complete redesign. Not just a few sprinkles here and there. You know, like the jump from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5 to iPhone 6.

Just wait until next year and you'll get your redesign

The 2016 model is what it is

In fact,

"Cameras on smartphones are pointless unless they are DSLRs"!

"I mean, who's ever going to use a camera on their phone?!"

And, of course, you are right! No one ever uses the zoom on their smartphone's camera. Never seen it done. Why? Because it's completely "pointless"!

:D
It annoys me when people post made up quotes on here.

I prefer a hardware button.

I also prefer an audio jack.

Seems I need to search for a different phone next time I'm in the market....

I'm curious how the stereo speakers will sound, and if we'll get any new software features to take advantage of it.

I would normally be excited for stereo sound, but given that Apple is only going to drive to make the device thinner, outside of some audio trickery, it's not like they're going to sound great anyways.

I've worked with a number of devices, even have a Nexus 6P now (with dual forward facing speakers) It's not that big of a difference. The Nexus is if anything a tad quieter than the iPhone 6 Plus I own. Though stereo is nice, it's not enough to make me want to loose REAL stereo through a proper audio jack, and high quality headphones.

And, thinner? Why, seriously, how thin must it be? Id' prefer to gain a mm or two to get better battery and keep the audio jack!

It's not as if you won't be able to use your high quality headphones.

This whole issue of the audio jack going away is as if Apple is committing a huge crime... I've been using Bluetooth headphones for the past couple of years so I'm going to be accustomed with this transition.

The upcoming iPhone haven't been officially announced, but at this point no matter what features the iPhone has it's already preconceived a failure due to the missing audio jack.

Last month I dropped my iPhone 6s in water while pulling it out of my shorts to snap a photo while standing on a log that spanned the creek. It disappeared in about a foot of cold running water. I looked up at my wife and the look on her face was as if it was game over for the iPhone. After carefully traversing the log, I went into the creek and started searching for my iPhone - It was in a well worn brown Apple leather case which made it blend into the river rocks that line the creek bottom and somewhat hard to locate, as it had lodged itself about a foot deep face down in the cold running water.
It had been underwater for about 30-45 seconds when I pulled it out - the screen was still on.
I quickly pulled the case off, wiped it dry and shut it down. While on the way back it was shaken a few times to remove any additional water. I also stuffed it in a bag of rice for about 30 minutes for good measure.
It surfaced unscathed and fully functional! :) I thought it was going to be dead, or at least some damage - but nothing. I’m typing this from that same iPhone now.

And surprisingly the iPhone 6s is very water resistant, even though Apple does not make any claims. There are actually quite a few water tests completed on You Tube showing how water resistant the iPhone 6s is.

From what I read, compared to the iPhone 6, the 6s uses a heavy amount of adhesive to hold more of the internal hardware, which also makes the 6s more difficult to service. Same goes for the 12.9 iPad Pro, which also uses a heavy amount of adhesive.

Great story by the way. Glad to hear your iPhone works well.

I actually subscribe to 'Everything Apple Pro', it's my go to video source.

How about we just stop changing things for the sake of changing things. One reason I have found sticking with iPhone over the years appealing is that it has slowly evolved over time... and the way a person uses the phone hasn't changed much over the years. The kinds of changes you guys are looking for would throw a wrench into all of that.
With your "logic" he all had nokia 3310 and would stick to it till now.. why the h*ll innovate hah?!

Next year with OLED phones.
#neverButton ;)

Apple didn't create the 3310 and Apple isn't Nokia. Some would say that Apple has been successful BECAUSE their phones have remained consistent. If you like a phone manufacturer that radically changes their phones up... go with Samsung. That is what THEY do.

OR or ORRR... if you want to buy each year a freaking phone with minimal adjustments .. buy iphone EACH year, since it's the best iphone in the history, where the apple team worked incredibly hard on it each year, over and over again... for a premium++++++ price.. come on man, we all like apple products but not all of us are brainwashed by the cheap ass marketing skills of apple..

I love the iOS, BUT.. apple isnt innovating anymore.. and that's just sad.. the new iphone is comming out and guess what.. it looks for 95% the same as the iphone 6 and iphone 6S.. and a lot of the people hate this design. So far, 5S had the best design.. and the camera bump, man.. come on.. i dont have to spell ridiculous for you, right?

And to comment on your lines.. consistent? nahhh.. not really.. each 2 years *SO FAR* new design.. except for this year. Besides, Samsung isn't radically change their premium phones. No idea what you talking about, perhaps you will stick whole your life with 1080p.

Sorry for my english, I am Dutch.

Apple used to be design+innovation, since Steve passed away (R.I.P.) Apple has been gone crazy with this fake ass new guy, marketing + software that has been left for Apple.. which mean; tik tak, tik tak APPLE!

once again, love the apple products, and got everything except for the ugly ass 6x version.. but they need to improve since the price- / quality- / innovation- level is getting worse each year since Steve..

Perhaps what they're doing this year will be incorporated into next years phone?
according to whom though? just because it is an anniversary? and why bother with yet another home button implementation if they are going to get rid of it all together next year anyway. seems to be wasted research and money. apple of all companies certainly isnt here for that

Improvement is needed I agree, I feel 2016 will be a start with some spec upgrades but 2017 will be the year Apple takes it to the next level I would hope at least

Comp is good and now Apple finally has it

Ah, having trouble with satire, are we? No need to be defensive!

You posted such an over the top, silly, sweeping statement, I figured it would be best to reply with gentle satire rather than blunt refutation.

You wrote this:

fitshaced: "Zoom on smart phones is pointless unless it is mounted to something to keep it stable."

I could have responded like this:

"pointless"? Really?! Millions of people use the zoom on their Samsungs, iPhones, and other smartphones every day *without* the need for a tripod at all! They've produced thousands of great *handheld* zoomed photos! That's even easier to do now with the addition of optical stabilization.

Instead, I replied in mocking fun:

In fact,

"Cameras on smartphones are pointless unless they are DSLRs"!

"I mean, who's ever going to use a camera on their phone?!"

------------------------------------

The Big Grin there at the end was the tip-off that this was satire and the quotes wildly offbase-- and, just as ridiculous as your own!

Maybe the direct response would have been better and sunk in more! :D

In any event, to reiterate, *handheld* zooming on smartphones is hardly "pointless".

The latest of all comebacks. You got there in the end. Try and not be so literal in the future, you waste too much of everyone's time. Oops, now you're likely to read too much into that and reply sometime next year. See you then.
