Lol not just to you, to everyone. If people don't realize that Apple does this almost every year then they're kind of delusional.

Retina, Force Touch, Siri, 128GB/256GB iOS Devices, Haptic, Rose Gold...

The list goes on. Apple does it in one device and sure enough it will roll out to more.

Which makes sense. You invest all that resources in R&D, you will want to get your money's worth by ensuring it is implemented in as many devices as possible.

I would agree with you if Jobs was still alive. But now its all a pure cash grab.We got 4 different iPad models, 3 variants of the iPhone 7 , 3 variants if the MacBook .There was only 1 product in each section when Steve was alive. Now that's simplicity

The Apple of today is also quite different from the Apple of yesteryear. Back then, Apple was on the brink of bankruptcy, so it didn't have a lot of resources. As such, it made sense for Steve to focus their limited resources on products that could bring in the most revenue for the least investment.

Now, Apple is a whole lot larger, and has a more diverse user base. I doubt Apple can continue to sell 1 model of every product and hope to keep everyone happy. I think the current iPad lineup makes sense in a certain way. You have the iPad mini 4 and iPad Air 2 to cater to the casual user, and the iPad Pro 9.7 and 12.9 to cater to people who wish to do more with their iPad and don't mind paying for it. Different users prefer different screen sizes, and different specs to cater to different use cases.

Different results based on pressure isn't easy to use consistently, isn't obvious, isn't easily remembered.

The original iPhone didn't need a manual. It is now needed more and more. UX isn't as good as it was.

If Samsung could update their phones in a timely manner or release the Note 7 with Android N I would not be entertaining the idea of replacing my 6S with this years disappoint.

Like most humans do, we will get used to it.

who knows it might not be a dissapointment. Design aside it will be a decent upgrade if the camera is something special.

Hmm... Really want the dual cameras, but boy sure about the size of "Plus". Right now I have a 6S, and like the size. Do I want to sacrifice one handed use for better photos?

I find it curious that Apple is still mum. Shouldn't a public event be announced and invites sent out already? It's in a month from now. Or will it be a silent update on their website?

iPhone 6s / 6s Plus : invites sent out on Aug 27, 2015 ; event date was Sep 9, 2015 = 13 day notice
iPhone 6 / 6 Plus : invites sent out on Aug 28, 2014 ; event date was Sep 9, 2014 = 12 day notice
iPhone 5s : invites sent out on Sep 3, 2013 ; event date was Sep 10, 2013 = 7 day notice
iPhone 5 : invites sent out on Sep 4, 2012 ; event date was Sep 12, 2012 = 8 day notice
iPhone 4s : invites sent out on Sep 27, 2011 ; event date was Oct 4, 2011 = 7 day notice

My guess is invites for event won't be sent out for another 3 weeks, which means week of Aug 28 - Sep 3, 2016.

Even on iOS 10 they changed the home button and you need to do an extra press to unlock (unless you override it in settings).

No. You need one press in total to unlock with default settings. Press home, display comes on, rest finger to unlock with Touch ID and go to home screen.

Alternatively, press power, screen comes on, rest finger to unlock and stay on "lock screen", press home to go to home screen.

Changing the settings can, along with rise to wake, require zero presses in total.

Who even came up with that? There wasnt an anniversary iPod or MacBook, was there?

I mean iOS 10 had its anniversary this year and its nothing revolutionary either

You're counting by iOS version/release number.

First iOS was released in June 2007.... when the 1st iPhone was released. That's 9 years ago. 10th anniversary of iOS won't be until next year.

And while there wasn't an anniversary iPod or MacBook, there was a (20th) anniversary Mac. So yes, it's possible Apple could put out a (10th) anniversary iPhone. It's their best selling product ever.

Times change, and I don't agree it's a cash grab any more than when SJ ran things. Companies offer up multiple models of their products and Apple had to also. Simplicity may have backfired in 2016. No one knows.

Do you remember anyone saying "oh you guys, how about you stop changing things for the sake of changing things" at the announcement of the iPhone 4?

No. Everyone was like "OMFG Apple has done it again please take my money".

That's exactly the feeling that we're sorely missing now.
We who, seems there are people who still think like that.

Just preparation for a buttonless phone next year?

In a minor way, the iPhone 7 is like a "mule", similar to what auto manufacturers do when they place new hardware components into an older vehicle to test them before using them for a new redesigned vehicle/platform (without revealing the new vehicle). In another way, this iPhone will be a small preview of next year's redesign with full integration of the home button into the screen.

The MAC is dead, just get with the program already. I'm a Windows guy, so its not big deal to me, but its still good to have competition.

In what world is the Mac dead? I don't care whether I'm in a Starbucks, Barnes & Noble or observing college students with their laptops at work, I see a good percentage of MBA and MBP devices. Will Macs ever rival Windows in the overall market? No! But the core constituency of Mac Users is loyal and the base is growing. From a marketing standpoint, Macs are still considered "cool" while Windows based hardware is considered as buying generic, store labeled canned goods.

So does this thing have a sim card slot? Seems like that would be one of the trickier places to waterproof. The mute switch would be pretty easy but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go soon. The Lightning port is pretty much self-contained. IDK how they plan on allowing Lightning chargers to go into wet ports, but whatever I guess.

Prediction: stories about people electrocuting themselves while using their waterproof iPhone in the bathtub while it's plugged in.

can a phone truely be waterproof though? water resistant and waterproof is a big difference. is this what apple are aiming for?

But i like my buttons and switches on my phone :(.

Same what you will about physical button, it is easy to find the one you want without looking. I like my phones (mostly) button-less, but I still use a universal remote control for my home theatre because it's easier to use in the dark.

This opens up the way for an upcoming iPhone to be all screen. An on screen software home button with a taptic engine underneath would be a small step from the iPhone 7's dedicated space on the chin using the same tech.

I'm looking forward to an all glass radical iPhone redesign next year. All screen on the front, smaller than today's iPhone 6 Plus but with the same 5.5inch display.

In what world is the Mac dead?

In Tim Cook's world.

Per Tim Cook: "Why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one? The iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones."

So how will I find the button in the middle of the night in the dark? I won't even know which end of the phone is which, except perhaps if it's plugged into a charge cable. :-(

Me, too. I can't wait for both products to be fully released and reviewed and compared. The Note 7 camera is the same as the one in the S7 so it's a known quantity by now, I think. But the dual camera on the IPhone 7 Plus or Pro is going to be all new and an unknown quantity. I think for me, it is the only truly exciting thing about this release.
This is why I'm torn. The galaxy's camera is AMAZING and I love the wide angle of the front facing camera. I'm just not sure if I can let Facetime go. I'm hoping for features to keep me around on the iPhone.

How is a touch sense-only button going to work effectively through a waterproof sports case?

I hope that it isn't completely smooth. I rely on being able to find the button by touch in the dark, when pulling out of a bag, or in a pocket. I don't want the phone to turn into another AppleTV remote design fail.
