About freaking time!
When will Apple realize those of us buying the smaller phone is by our free will because we like that smaller one better?!
Stop denying us the top spec stuffs.
....

The Plus model is larger and more expensive. 2 reasons why is qualifies for more features than the 4.7".

Apple engineering have now had 2 years to redesign both the internal structure of the 4.7" and the camera module itself so that Optical is now possible in the small form. Meanwhile, the new Plus will be getting its own major new camera system that is appropriate for its size and cost.

These things are not complicated....for people capable of critical thinking.

Good. Then it should be in the standard iPhone 8 which more people are anticipating.

I wonder if higher resolution images--and higher resolution screens like those on Samsung phones (577 ppi vs. 401 ppi* --exacerbate a blurred image and therefore require image stabilization.

*Galaxy S6 vs. iPhone 6 Plus

No headjack, not buying...

Headjack?

It's good, but there will be further fragmentation of the two models with the dual camera.

Fragmentation? Please. Have you looked inside the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s? There was/is simply no room for OIS in both models. Now the headphone jack's been removed that's freed up a LOT of space allowing them to add it to the 4.7-inch models. The dual-camera obviously takes up more room.

Why would Apple leave room for OIS in a phone that isn't offered with OIS??? Obviously they're not going to engineer iPhones with empty space inside. If you look in a 6s Plus you won't see room for a dual lens camera, either.

While there's an argument to be made that the 326 ppi found on previous Retina iPhones and the current 4.7" models is low resolution enough that some people can see the pixels/blurriness, I think that 99% of people would have a hard time differentiating between 401 ppi and 577 ppi from the naked eye. Of course 577 ppi can make a difference for VR headsets.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the 7+ gets its 2208x1242 native resolution (currently downsampled to 1080p on the 6+ and 6S+), which would put it at 460 ppi and give it a slightly higher resolution than the Oculus Rift for VR applications. And while the Samsung phones would still have a better VR resolution, every single Samsung Gear demo I've seen has inconsistent frame rates, when a high and stable frame rate is a critical element for using VR for more than a few minutes as a novelty. I'd personally prefer a lower resolution with a solid 60fps.

Step in the right direction. Now improve the screen (oled), fast charging, better battery life, and sure why not water proofing and you are caught up to the Galaxy s7 hardware wise. Get the off contract price to the same as a S7 an then at least it only comes down to software preference. Add some customization flexibility and then we have a show down that Apple most likely wins. Here's hoping.

I know. iPhone's have no room to breathe! I think it's pretty good how they are going to fit a dual-camera in the 5.5-inch considering there's no room for it in the 6s Plus.

Welcome to 2010, Apple and Apple users. Genuinely happy that you guys get to enjoy tech Samsung users have had for years. Next will be OLED—in 2018, only on Plus models. Then maybe a finger print sensor that actually works in 2020. Then waterproofing in 2035. Then maybe you guys will enjoy better battery life by 2049.

And just as you're getting eye tracking like Smart Scroll and not stupid innovations like 3D Touch, maybe Apple will bump up the storage from 16 GB.

But I'm sure Apple will still ship 5200 RPM drives.

Plenty of space for OIS in the 6S:

OLED next year.

We'll see faster charging (http://wccftech.com/apple-iphone-7-fast-charging/), better battery life (https://9to5mac.com/2016/07/13/iphone-7-battery-size-increase/) and a water-resistant (http://www.techtimes.com/articles/1...ible-according-to-leaked-powerpoint-slide.htm) phone this year. 3 out of 4 on your list.

Apple usually scales the battery for a specific usage. The A10 will be faster and consume more power (same node size as current A9). The battery time will be unchanged.

I don't know about that. Another 245 mAh will make a small difference and the A10 chip will focus on efficiency this year rather than performance. I think we'll see an extra hour of battery life, roughly.

Agreed. I almost bought the 5.5 just because I like Safari in landscape mode on that size...but couldn't bring myself to committing to carrying around that tank of a phone.

That's actually really good to hear. Ever since the 6 and 6 Plus were announced I've always felt like I should get the Plus just because of the better camera. Although the rumor mill is currently churning with talk of a dual camera on the Plus so I don't know.

Ahhh Apple why must you force me to get that gargantuan phone just because I like to take good photos!

They aren't. The 6s takes great photos, not just IMHO, but by every expert reviewer. Now the rumors are that the next model will have an even better camera with OIS and even better low light and other improvements. So you will get a terrific camera regardless of which camera you choose.
