In Boston if you replaced "bread" with "food stamps" it would clear out half the town. LOL... 775k on food stamps in the tiny state of MA... LOL...

??
As of 2016, Massachusetts has about 150,000 people (approximately 2% of the population) on SNAP food assistance, not 775,000.

I'll say again, I don't personally line up for an iPhone and don't plan to, but Christ, the level of pretentiousness in this thread is staggering. Let people make their own choice on how to spend their time. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone, there is NO reason to be judgmental.

People have responded as to why they do it. And folks here STILL won't accept their answer. Incredible.

When you get a job & lead a life with little time to spare, you will realise the inane sadness associated with these events. Especially when, uh'hem, Mobile Phones are about as relevant now as a Chocolate Teapot ever was.

How is it the fault of others that you are leading a life with little spare time?

I echo the sentiments of other people here. It's their life, their time. So long as their actions don't harm other people, I really couldn't care less how they choose to spend it.

And I kinda wish I had that sort of time to just queue in like for something with friends. The camaraderie would have been excellent.

I worked hard to have a life where I do have some time to spare. It's not up to you to decide if how I (or others) choose to spend that time is inane.

I'm sure some people waiting in line are misusing their time, but for us to sit here, judge and condemn people we don't know is pretentious.

I don't get why people waste their time trying to convince strangers their opinion is wrong. The power of anonymity.

most people pre-order online/stores their iphones in 2016.
Maybe they're just anti-social. Can't hurt to get out for a little air once in a while.

"Most" is pretty vague (kind of like "I hear people say"), and I haven't seen any sales figures to confirm that. Since the vast majority of iPhone 7's won't be sold for months, it remains to be seen how they'll be sold, the "pre-order online/stores" may be a small percentage of overall sales, eventually.

Frankly I don't care, the steady march towards the narcissism of instant gratification didn't start this decade.

People have been standing in lines to buy crap they don't need, but perceive they do, for ages, and it warms the heart of companies like Apple, even if by only encouraging people, who mistakenly believe they are superior, to order online.

I got my 5s the day it was released but instead of waiting days in line at an Apple store I got it trough a local phone company, waited maybe 30 min before the store opened and had it less than an hour later. Still got my 5s and won't be upgrading this time around. Went past the same store this morning and they had a special roped of section with some red carpet for the lucky few waiting in line.

It's not the originator of the comments we are convincing, but the other people who might read his comments and be inclined to agree with him because it seems to make sense and they don't know any better.

Haters will always hate. Doesn't mean there aren't those worth saving.

Just read about some folks in my country who are queueing to get their iPhones. No jet black available to purchase, and no jet black at all in the store! You can't even have a look at them, they're simply not there.
What's the point in visiting the Apple store if you can't even see their new products? You're supposed to order a jet black just looking at advertising and online reviews? That's ridiculous, and they made the same mistake in 2015 when they started selling the 12'' Macbook before having it on the store.

Exactly. Some people ride bikes for fun, I call them mobile speed humps, but I wont call them wrong for their choice. Some people want to line up for a phone, others want to order online, thats fine by me whichever they choose. Some people spend days on forums and bite at any comment, I just call them fun and dont remember them tomorrow even when they ask me if I would like to supersize my fries for just another 50 cents.

Yeah but there in no official Apple Store , so usually Sydney gets the worlds media attention.
Well, that makes sense. But since you can buy the iPhone here as soon as the day starts, the first people to get their hands one one are New Zealanders.
