I think it's pretty clear that with the introduction of 3D Touch the home button is on its way out. Apparantly you can get back to the home screen with a "Force Touch" on the 6S and 6S+ so what good is the home button now?

So my prediction is that the iPhone 7 redesign will lose the home button and make the footprint of the devices MUCh smaller. Can't wait. Flame away.

No flame, but I think we're a long way off from removing the Home Button. They can't do it until they have a way to integrate Touch ID into arbitrary places on the screen which I don't see happening anytime soon.

A new post on Macotakara - http://www.macotakara.jp/blog/rumor/entry-28091.html - discusses a prototype iPhone that is waterproof and dustproof.. with a new non-metallic material for the frame.

This far out you can take such comments with the proverbial pinch-of-salt, but nice speculation nonetheless..

Having skipped the entire 6-series phones, I'll be looking forward to seeing what new design comes next year.

I have a feeling that the 7 is going to be a huge upgrade.
--4.7 " screen but in a smaller form factor. Satisfies the 4" die hards who just want to keep a small phone. I could live with a 5" screen in the same 6s form factor. Just do not increase the external dimensions of the phone anymore!
--Processor will be a mild upgrade as it will be based on the A9 of today. There is no need to upgrade the processor as Apple has a 2 year lead on the rest of the industry. It is a chasm-sized gap.
--Battery life will improve by 2 hours.
--Some type of quick charge
--Thinner, at least back down to the 6s thinness
--A truly better camera done by sticking a faster lens (f 1.8) as opposed to the 6s which only upgraded the sensor.
--No notification light, which is just them being stubborn.

In short, the 7 is the one to get.

Will be interesting. My guess would be

A10 Processor (obviously)
2GB RAM
12MP camera with 4K/60fps recording (up from 4k/30 on the 6S)
Micro LED Screen
Minor (but always welcome) battery life improvements
Thinner design
Smaller bezels
1080p screen on 7, 2208x1242 screen on 7+

Blue iPhone 7 please.

Also:

1) No visible antenna lines on the back of the phone.
2) No camera bump.
3) Lighter weight (non-metallic frame and ver 2.0 of 3D touch sensor pad may help).
4) High screen to body ratio. (Xperia C5 Ultra has a ratio of 75.9%)
5) Better battery life. Don't mind a 9mm thick phone if it means more hours of battery life.

Predictions:

1. Camera bump. There is always a yearly camera improvement
2. CPU/GPU improvements. Always an improvement
3. A more stream line body.
4. Battery improvement
5. Screen improvement
6. Maybe an additional color
7. Hopefully better speakers

But the 8 will be better than the 7s :)

In general, the S models are better than the numbered models as they've had the chance to iron out any design issues that accompany the new design, like the antenna issue on iPhone 4, the scuffs on the iPhone 5 and the bends and RAM issues on iPhone 6.

The S models have always had the biggest leap forwards in CPU/GPU speeds too.

I think it's reasonable to assume the iPhone 7 will be all about the design/shape.
There will be some improvements to camera and of course the CPU, but the focus will be the new design, and the materials used.. cue Jony Ive video..

I'm pretty sure more than half of the words he uses in those videos have more than 8 letters in ha :D

Either way I'm happy to be on the "S" cycle. I think they're the more sensible choice.

With the exception of iPhone 5. It was twice as fast in CPU/GPU compared to 4s. It also had 2x RAM.

I like the idea of:

Removing the home button and taking advantage of the touch ID on the screen
Smaller bezel
"Live" locked background and home background
As many Gigs of Ram as the technology will bear
More phone color options with black fronts

Let's be honest what ever google is doing now will be on the 7 next year but put together 20x better and without the 3 second lag, it always amazed that no matter how good of a android phone I used there was always a lag no matter what
