I hope this is not true, an iPhone 7 pro..... Apple is getting desperate, and you now have to get the pro to get the dual camera
Never understood why fragmentation is a problem. It works in every other facet of society. You can’t expect to get a Limited Slip Diff on a BMW 318i for example but you do get one on an M5. The M series are the Pro models for want of a better analogy?

That said, as much as I want to upgrade, my 5S could do with a bigger screen, better battery life and a little more speed now I may hold out for the 8. I hope they put a dang stylus in this one too.

Looks fake to me, photoshopped. Why would Apple not just put the dual camera in the iPhone 7 Plus model? From those pictures the plus and the pro models are the same except for the dual camera and those 3 dots at the bottom. I think those 3 are just prototypes or fakes.

Better than the original 6 for sure. My two biggest bugbears have been addressed, (partially).

Adding a dual camera and a 256GB will make it even better! But there no doubt will be other features as well. Even if this is a small update and the bigger anniversary edition is coming next year, I can't see Apple just going with a dual camera as the ONLY feature, especially if it's exclusive to the 5.5" iPhone 7 Plus or Pro.

Interesting they didn't create 3 sizes as their other products lines: 4", 4.7", 5.5".

The iPhone SE sold extremely well, it would have made sense to bring it into the line than offering two 5.5" iPhones.

It's bad for me as a consumer, as its raising the prices of products I buy. A top of the range iPad is now over £1000, and where before all products had the same hardware and features, now you have to upgrade to get a spec that has the best features before you even look at storage. You are now paying more .

Car analogies do not work.

If it's me, this will be Apple lineup w/ starting price:

7.9" iPad Mini ($299)
9.7" iPad ($499)
12.9" iPad Pro ($699)

*the iPad will basically be the same as exist 9.7" iPP except starts at 64GB storage capacity

12" MacBook Air - Replaces the current MacBook and MBA ($1099)
14" MacBook - Replaces the current 13" rMBP ($1299)
16" MacBook Pro - Replaces the current 15" rMBP ($1799)

To be honest here...I'm concerned about this strategy. Now Apple is doing what others are doing and releasing more and more different models of the same phone instead of keeping it simple. I found it always smart releasing just two models now (used to be one). People always knew what they are buying but now the average customers has to research more and make more decisions.

I hope these are just prototypes from the early development days and Apple made a decision now which one of the bigger phones they want to sell.

7 Plus with a Smart Connector that will allow me to add a battery pack without adding to the length of the device would be amazing.

It would be great to have a charging pad/dock with the smart connector for the iPhone and iPad pro.
A battery case would also be convenient as you pointed out.

I really wish Apple would just go back to one new iPhone. One model, one phone.

Think I'm gonna pass on the iPhone 7 and iPhone altogether. Hardly much of a design change from my iPhone 6 Plus and iOS 10 has been very disappointing. I was really hoping for a killer from Apple seeing as it's a new number iteration for the iPhone and a milestone 10th iOS release.

With tech these days, there's no practical reason to get a new phone once a year. Two years is probably the minimum with three being optimal imo.

Jobs believed in simplification and you can't really argue with the results. Apple was much better when it was one new device a year and not a bunch of options. It's just a better business model for Apple.

One phone? No much rather have choice...you don't have to choose the pro model you know.pick what suits your size...choice is never bad.

I can't wait until release day so we can complain about the actual product, rather than complain about a rumour. 2 more months.
People will complain and STILL BUY IT

Simplification was crucial when you were a company on the brink of bankrupt and with limited resources at your disposal. Apple was also targeting a way smaller and more niche crowd with their products back then.

Today, Apple is a way larger company with a larger, more diverse user base. What worked for Apple in the past may no longer work for Apple today. Didn't Steve Jobs tell Tim Cook to be his own man, rather than obsess too much about what Steve would have done?

In a way, I can see the logic behind fragmenting your product lineup. Take the iPad Pro for instance. Not everyone needs a stylus and Smart Keyboard, but that hardware costs money to implement. Put those features in every ipad, and consumers are either paying more than what they need (when the iPad Air 2 suffices), or Apple wastes money including features only a small minority appreciates. Makes more sense to create a new lineup specifically targeting the needs your target market wants, market to them exclusively and charge an appropriate premium.

I honestly don't think Apple can get away with just selling one model of every product anymore. I am just curious as to what new features the iPhone Pro will have to justify its branding, because this feature will also likely be something Apple has decided that the rest of their non-pro user base doesn't need.

If you ask me, I hope waterproofing and wireless charging are features that come to all iPhones, not just reserved for their most expensive tier. 256 gb of storage? For what? Is there some aspiring movie producer itching to film the next blockbuster on an iPhone? Smart accessories? Wasn't too impressed by the Moto X unveiling.

Not too anxious, as I am using a 6S+ and due for an upgrade only next year.

Remember when Steve said fragmentation is bad? Remember when Apple concentrated in what they do best, and became the biggest tech company ever?

It's sad what tim and co are doing.

Watchers, a thousand different sized phones/iPads/macs/watches/cars etc.

What exactly is a "pro" model for a phone? It doesn't make any sense at all. PRO also can't mean "size" any longer as they did away with that when they created the iPad PRO in two sizes. Camera wise, I dont see any professional photographer using an iPhone as their default device.

Personally, I have a theory that he did this because he knew that Tim Cook didn't have it in him. Steve was a bit of a narcissist and I believe that he appointed Tim because he knew that he would never overshadow his own accomplishments. Tim is a peculiar choice for CEO. He works better as a CFO type. We had a Tim Cook type take over one of the prior companies I worked at (a gaming company). We did one successful project as he inherited the goodwill, technology, creative drive, etc. of the prior regime.

Once it came time to being "his own man" however, that's when things went "pear shaped", and the company eventually went out of business.

I don't think Tim has it in him, and I think Ive has checked out (and I think that without Steve's influence Ive is overrated anyway).

'Pro' is code for 'give another $100 to Tim Crook'

The leader at Apple is a Yes Man, saying yes to every idea that seems descent and investing in every direction, loosing focus on their cash cow: iPhone. Now, even wizardry cannot make their generic phone design look attractive.

"It's not about saying 'yes.' It's about saying 'no, no, no." Steve Jobs.

Guys, don't you see? We've seen all these "iPhone 7" photos with the bigger camera, no headphone jack, but not a single "iPhone 7 Plus" image.

First of all, I don't think they'll call it "iPhone 7", just "iPhone" and "iPhone Pro". Like they do with their Macs and iPads/iPods (RIP). No more numbers. We'll just denote models by year. "[2016] iPhone". And like MacOS, they'll start naming iOS after places in California.

...and since I'm on a roll, next year they'll call their 10th iPhone "The New iPhone/Pro"!

By the way, storage & pricing just like the iPads: 32GB for $649, and 128GB for $150 extra. The iPhone Pro will come with 128GB, matte black (only available on Pro), dual cameras, but most importantly... a whole new design that hasn't been leaked (because it's fully waterproof, get it?), so we actually have something to be surprised about in September. We'll be so caught off guard we instantly preorder it with our new Apple Watches, forgetting it starts at $899, plus the cost of a new case.

Oh, and speaking of cases. I have my two cents to speak about the loss of the headphone jack. People are upset about not being able to charge and listen to wired headphones at the same time. Apple now already sells a battery case. What's wrong with updating their case to include a headphone port and requisite DAC? So those who want to continue using their current headphones can do so, and charge their phones at the same time, for only $99 more!

As for the iPhone Pro, Apple won't make a battery/headphone case for the same reason they didn't for the iPhone 6 Plus. It already has a bigger battery as a selling point. But what if... Apple doesn't take away the headphone port from the larger phone?!?! It would explain the back and forth we've been hearing in the rumor mills. Again, we've seen evidence of the "iPhone 7" case with no headphone port, but it would be totally Apple to make it and the dual cameras part of the $250 "upgrade".

*drops mic* -[due to carpel tunnel from holding his iPhone 6S Plus with a card-carrying case]

LOL LOL EPIC!!!!!!!**ENCORE ENCORE ENCORE**

I very much much doubt that, Steve Jobs loved Apple that much is evident and I doubt he would of given the role of CEO to Tim Cook if he didn't think that Tim would do a great job. As much as I liked Steve Jobs, he wasn't the sole reason that Apple was successful, as much as people want him to be this god like figure. I don't see Apple on the decline, have they made some mistakes? Of course they have everyone does, but that have also had some great successes. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus was a brilliant success for example. Wishing Jobs was still alive is irrelevant because he's not, Tim Cook is CEO now and of course some things will be done differently.

Anyone remember when "pro" was used for actual professional tools? Now it's just a brand that just means more expensive. Someone please invent a time machine and go back and prevent Steve Jobs from dying so none of this **** would happen.

Honest question: who needs a "pro" iPhone? Is an iPhone 6S, for example, not a professional device?

It is just the product´s name. Could be anything.

And what new technology would you like to see implement?
Look at the whole smartphone market. There are no big innovations, because we already have almost anything we wished for 10 to 5 years ago.
So yeah, pass that iPhone, use your 6 Plus (it´s a awesome phone), do something for the environment.
Thanks.

I think what Apple is mostly sorely missing from Steve Jobs is a good dose of common sense. It's like a mother imparting her knowledge to her child by telling her what he can and cannot do. WatchOS3 basically just undid many features that debuted with watchOS 1 and 2, and I imagine a lot of time and effort into making those features possible, then brainstorming over how to redo them.

What Steve brought to the party was the ability to envision what the end product ought to be, and it was just a matter to eventually working towards that end goal. Just look at the Macbook Air. Close to 6 years old, and the form factor is no less timeless as it was back in 2010. Apple has no doubt saved a ton of cash from not having to constantly revamp the form factor ever so often. And this is possible only because Apple got the design right the first time round, thereby saving them the trouble of having to change it a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th time.

I believe that even without Steve Jobs, Apple will still eventually get to the desired end point. It will just take longer, with more missteps and false turns along the way.

Anyone remember when "pro" was used for actual professional tools? Now it's just a brand that just means more expensive. Someone please invent a time machine and go back and prevent Steve Jobs from dying so none of this **** would happen.

Except that no one can really define what professional means. Some take "pro" to mean being able to run office and photoshop, even though there are many people who don't use these apps, yet would still be considered as professionals in their respective fields. It's really up to the individual companies to decide. For the Mac, it probably refers to people working in the photography and video-editing industries. For the iPad Pro, it could be anyone who needs a good stylus, from artists to teachers. For other products, it's really anyone's guess.
