You'd think they would have just merged all the bands/types by now. Weird.

This is true. If you try to buy an iPhone SE via the Apple Store app right now, it does the exact same thing. So oh well, it looks like I'll just have to settle for the T-Mobile version since I don't have access to a Verizon account.

What information will be needed at checkout via IUP to ensure I get a Verizon version? Just a Verizon phone number? Phone number and last 4 of social? Actual account number? Can someone please let me know..

There may be another issue with buying the VZW/Sprint IP7 to use on ATT: AT&T may not support advanced features like Wifi-calling and VoLTE.
We purchased a TMO iPhone 6s on launch to use on ATT, since it was the only version available for "unlocked" use during pre-order. Turned out Wifi calling and HD Voice were not available on this model (even though it had all the required radio), and we had to exchange for the SIM-free model that became available outside of the return period (Apple made an exception for us)

I bought a 6s this time last year, unlocked AT&T model, through the iPhone Upgrade Program. I'm pretty sure it's not Verizon-compatible — whether it's because it doesn't have CDMA or because it supports the wrong LTE bands or some other reason. But this is not a new development this year with the iPhone 7.

Difficult to understand, yes. But not a new issue.

I was able to connect VZW line woth Att unlocked model 6S

I'm going to buy VZW full price Apple Upgrade phone day 1. I post here about my experience.

CDMA is a dying technology so no big loss there. Verizon, despite their marketing is not all they are cracked up to be.

Ok, let's hold off on the debate over which networks are better and let's get to the solution for all of the people that are about to drop $1,000 tonight.

Since we can't get a solid non-PC answer/solution from Apple, how can any of us decide how to make our purchase tonight.

Seems like these are the current "possibilities" on the table.

1) Buy Verizon at full price and there may not ask you for account information and you can get a iPhone 7 or 7+ to all major carriers in the US

2) Buy Verizon at full price and they will ask you for your account information (account number, social security number, name?) and if you don't already have that information and opt to use a friend's account info. there may likely be a conflict of which phone that service ends up getting activated on.

Is that right?

From what I understand, yes this is the current situation. I'm on AT&T and I think I'm going to just settle for the AT&T model. I don't plan on switching carriers, and I don't think it will have that big of an impact on resale value.

I'm thinking of this as well, as everywhere I would possibly go has GSM, and uses the same bands as the ATT/T-Mobile model here. The only caveat would be if they still carrier lock it, meaning that if I went overseas, even with popping out the sim, I still may not be able to use it until ATT or T-Mobile unlocks it.. and IIRC, don't they only do that by particular request, or asking to have it unlocked after paying off the phone?

BL.

I'm actually ok with purchasing the T-mobile unlocked version and resale value is not that important to me but one problem is that one day I may decide to switch to the CDMA network or need to do business travel and I don't want to be stuck in that situation.

Has anybody going for the Verizon full price model decided what you're going to do?

AT&T/T-MOBILE version is fully unlocked just cannot use with CDMA.

I am like you. I do not expect to switch. Just annoying that I would not be able to if wanted. Very slim chance.

I guess if there are no solid solutions we'll all see tonight.

I'm going to attempt to pre-order the Verizon at full price and if they ask for account number I'll just get the T-mobile.

I just got off the phone with Apple and the guy claimed to me that if you're purchasing through the Apple iPhone Upgrade Program that you will be asked what carrier you need the phone for and that you won't be asked for any identifying information (phone number, account number, etc). Doesn't sound correct to me, but this is what he said? I'm guessing that I will need a Verizon phone number and last 4 digits of the account holder's social. Can anyone confirm what actual information is needed to ensure that I get a Verizon model through the Apple IUP?

FYI: I just used the Apple Store app to try "buying" an iPhone 7 and it immediately showed me something saying my phone was in the iPhone upgrade program and asked me if I wanted to upgrade this phone. It went on to say that beginning tonight that I would be able to make a reservation to visit an Apple retail store to upgrade my phone through the program... so what's stopping me from simply requesting a Verizon iPhone when I goto my reservation at the Apple Store?

I really doubt that. The main idea with account info is to charge us an upgrade fees.

Perfect. This answers my question, as for unless I'm going to Japan or China, I have no use for CDMA.

After you enter you info it asks for your accnt. number. Try to Apple upgrade 6s.

Agreed, the obvious choice should be the Verizon or Sprint model so it could be used in any CDMA/GSM network, IF those Verizon or Sprint models are unlocked. Do you know if those come unlocked? i.e. I buy the Verizon or Sprint model and right away in put my T-Mobile chip, will it work?

I would like to know as well

It will work.

Thats good to know but isn't the main issue here whether or not we can even purchase the Verizon at full price without using some account information that does not belong to us?

And assuming they require Verizon information to purchase the full price phone even if we use someone else's information, isn't there a potential conflict in phone activations?

So, the dilemma:

AT&T model will have a better chip from Intel
But VZW model will have a better resale value

Decisions, decisions.

Do we have any empirical evidence yet that the Intel chip is "better"? It might just be cheaper for Apple, or helps them with some supply chain constraint. They're probably getting a big discount as Intel looks to establish themselves in this space.
