I'm so jealous.
Did you set your phone up as new or restore from backup? Do you have FaceBook or Messenger installed? What about Frequent locations. All of those are battler killers.
I'm so jealous.
I recently did a clean install to try to solve the problem, didn't work.
I do have Facebook installed, I've turned off background app refresh and make sure it is closed.
I just edited some frequent locations, hopefully that helps?
I'm having the same battery drain issues while in standby mode with my iPhone 7. Charge to 100 percent, go to sleep and wake up 8-9 hours later with an average 15 percent battery loss.
This is my second iPhone 7 too. I got one launch day, had the exact same issue and decided to go back to the 6S. Got the iPhone 7 itch last week and switched back and have the same issue on my new phone. I have a genius bar appointment for Friday night. We'll see what happens.
It's most likely an iOS 10 issue with the new iPhone. I'm sure Apple will smooth everything out in a future update, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Did you know that notifications can wake up apps even if they're closed/removed from the recent apps list?FaceBook and Messenger are notorious for running in the background even if background refresh is off and the app is entirely closed out. Delete the app, use the browser and I guarantee your battery life will go up.

For this kind of apps (WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram and Facebook) the only way of preventing them from working on the background is to disable notifications, background app refresh and remove it from the recent apps list. That makes it difficult to use the apps at all, specially the ones with messages.
I keep notifications on for messenger but turn off background app refresh and if I close it in the app switcher it uses no batteryI keep notifications off for Messenger and it still eats up my battery with the app closed.

I'll try deleting it for a test out of interest now, but I've never noticed any issues with it using battery or any usage registered on the battery usage list once I close it in the app switcherYou are one of the few. Messenger runs in the background even with the app closed, BAR off and notifications off. You can use Xcode to see system processes and it's still working. Deleted the app and get 2-3 hours more of usage a day. Upwards of 6-7 more hours of stand by.

Yeah mine doesn't really use much background time maybe 15 minutes over 24 hours if I don't close it in the app switcherUnder Settings - Battery: If you click on Messages to get the time, you will see that there is a Background time, even if you don't open the app at all. Over 24 hours I had 4 hours of background usage from Messenger without opening it once.

I find WhatsApp uses a little more though if I don't close it after use
Last 3 days..

Strange! I will try deleting it for a few days though to compare battery life as a testYou are lucky! Seriously. I've tried downloading the app every week or so for the last year and after 2-3 days I end up deleting it because it just drains.
And what did apple support suggest after nothing fixed it?Update: spent 45 minutes on the phone with Apple support to investigate the battery drain (now losing around 25% per hour) and go through every possible fix, all of which I had already tried. I restored my phone yesterday (DFU mode) and, as expected, it did *not* fix the battery drain.
I'll walk in an Apple Store as soon as possible and see what they have to say.
Told them everybody on their forums and other who seemed to have a similar issue and had restored their phone, even as new, didn't fix the battery drain. They said I still had to do it otherwise they couldn't take the phone in for repair... The technician said if this failed they'd take it to have it repaired but I certainly hope they'll replace it.And what did apple support suggest after nothing fixed it?
Hope they swap it for you.. 25% per hour drain is ridiculous after a dfu restore set up as new.Told them everybody on their forums and other who seemed to have a similar issue and had restored their phone, even as new, didn't fix the battery drain. I know some people have had things like that (based on various posts here and there), but despite my use of Facebook Messenger here and there on most days I rarely have more than some minutes of on screen time and often either no background time or just a few minutes or so.Under Settings - Battery: If you click on Messages to get the time, you will see that there is a Background time, even if you don't open the app at all. Over 24 hours I had 4 hours of background usage from Messenger without opening it once.
