Doing it first for the 7 Plus increases the odds of success. 32 gig, 128 gig and 256 gig at 749, 849 and 949 but including at least 2 other differentiators (more internal ram and meaningfully more battery life on top of the greater battery life to date though I would suggest at least 1 more differentiator perhaps related to the camera) could be the secret sauce to making it all work out. You push more people towards the larger phone which is already more profitable and that compensates for the lost profits on the ram. The only way to pull this off with the 7 would be to include inexpensive differentiators and perhaps go down to two sizes, 32 and 128 like on the iPad Pro. Price them at 649 and 799 but include additional differentiators that push the higher priced phone. You'll drive enough traffic to the $799 to almost completely compensate.

Simple reasons:
1- pictures and video recording
2- have all my music library
3- be a real mobile device that doesn't need to be transferring dat to the cloud every few hours a day
4- have offline movies and tv shows available
5- be able to do all above and have decent apps and games

We have 128GB on the iPhone 6 plus and 6S plus.

It would be nice to have 256GB. With kids, spouse photos etc, someone is always wanting something else on there. "Another 3 movie" "The photos from the last 10 years" etc. (or 512 or 1024 eventually). And extra $100 or something to go to 256GB is an easy sell as an option.

Oh. You are right. 256GB would probably good. Now that the iPhone records in 4k, apps are getting larger, it would be nice to have 256GB.

anybody has yet to answer me when I hit them with this question. If you have no shares, stake or dont own Apple. Why are you defending a 16gb version? We are both consumers of their products, shouldn't we both want more from them? A 32gb can do everything the 16gb can do. So what reason as a CONSUMER is there to defend Apple?

Everyone that defends it keeps saying 16gb is useful. So does that mean 32gb is not as useful? I am completely lost at this logic as a consumer.

I'm not defending the 16GB version.

However... when I see Apple offer a 16GB version... I actively avoid it!

I'm not mad that a 16GB version exists. I simply DO NOT PURCHASE the 16GB version.

Besides... you know exactly why Apple has a 16GB version... it's an upselling technique.

I've gotten hit by cars twice in five years and almost hit another 2-4. Always with people veering out on the wrong side.

Thank you for the concern, though. I've had people wish I get hit by cars before because I argued with them.

Oh wow, I would have stopped after I got hit the first time. I use to love cycling...still do but only did it on trails, parks, etc.

That is sad for people to wish that on you. As I said, I care about others...could never wish that on someone that does not agree with my point of view.

Bigger battery, more ram = hook me up.

Oh, and I'll stay on ios10 and won't upgrade to 11 because they will gimp my phone like they gimped my iPhone 6 on ios9. Nowhere near the performance of 8...

iOS 9 didn't hobble my 6 Plus in any way. Was my 6S Plus ultimately faster? Yes. But there was zero down side to upgrading my 6 Plus or my wife's 6 for that matter. Something wrong happened on your end and sometimes it's best to do a clean upgrade despite the tedium.

I guess 4K could have a good reason to have more storage, but this a phone.

What do we do with video ? we never leave it on there...

1. We shoot
2. We upload..
3. We delete.
4. We get hits on Youtube :D

More storage would just mean we could have multiple 4K video. That's pretty much the only reason. There is nothing else that i can think of that would need allot of storage, we can't do now, expect just "more storage for ....." ???

oh, I think you are misunderstanding me and others. Being mad is a bit much, atleast I am not mad. I as well as others just feels it is unjust. It is not something that I am going to stress over. However we as consumers should not tolerate greed. Alteast that is how I feel.
When persons say 16gb is useful, a 32gb will be just as useful and will only benefit consumers. U don't think we as consumers should care if Apple makes 100 million less because they now offer a 32gb.

Doesn't it cost 2-5$ or something to jump to 32gb over 16? Across millions of units, that is an ass load of lost money.
It's worse than that because they'd lose the extra $100 from at least 1/3 (possibly much more) of the 64 gig buyers. The only way Apple can go to a base of 32 and financially not get screwed is to make the upgrades about more than ram.

No one even mentions this about flash storage thumb drives...

"ok. there is no more 4 Gig* no biggie *

but we *do* make a big issue of it when is comes to phones, simply because they would be a replacement/like..

Only feels like yesterday *dreams*.. At one stage *probably when the original iPhone came out, we would have never taken heat any of this about capacity. Times have changed, and users get more grumpy.. :)

The 64gb is the most popular model by far. IF anything (because I cannot supply actual sales figures) they are 1:1 in sales. The amount of photos people take with their phone, they now realize 64 for 100$ more is worth it.

They won't bundle the adapter. Look at the new ipad mini and pro cases (2 pieces), the macbook with separate adapters, and the fact that ipads do not come with headphones. They will assume people will all use wireless headphones so the adapter is not necessary, but an after market option. What they probably will do is include a set of headphones with the lightning instead of 3.5 and that is all. Then say " hey we own beats so these people will then buy more of them. Because we are the only people with headphones to plug into lightning.

The world is not ready for it. Not everyone even wants wireless headphones, let a lone an adapter on the end of their existing pair. It will push beats though so they will do it. It will sell adapters, headphones with lightning ports and wireless headphones. They try to push the market and be cutting edge with change, however they won't have an iphone that is so revolutionary that people will oversee that type of change.

For the macbook people don't care, because they can buy another model. CD drive is not that big of a deal because you can buy it separate and a lot of people don't need one.

This will be huge as people still complain that their "new iphone has lightning instead of 30 pin still" and they need a new car charger

Make it as small as possible and put it in the box for free in both white and black in the mid and upper range memory tiers ($10 for everyone else) and you have a nice little differentiator that will likely cost Apple a buck or two to manufacture. Make the USB true 3.0 speed to make iTunes backup much faster too on the upgraded models. As long as you give people some legit reasons to avoid the low end model, under the new pricing plans, you're talking about a couple of bucks a month.

I will chime in with everyone saying they need to scrap 16GB, I agree. It's becoming a usability issue. You used to be able to buy an iPhone with the base storage with no issues. But pictures, apps, video, etc. is all taking up more space than it was in 2009. Both my parents are currently experiencing the 16GB frustration when they get a notification saying the storage is full when they don't even store music or video at all. Admittedly though they could probably dump some of their photos on a computer and be fine. I wish Apple would opt for the largest capacities they could because then it may encourage more robust games in the app store. If everyone has 16GB phones it makes 2-3 GB games unavailable to most. I hope for 64/128/256 in the next iPhone but I honestly expect 32/64/128.

256 though, that's as much as my MacBook Air and I won't lie that would be pretty cool if I could put every single thing I have on my computer on my phone.

I don't think you'll see 64/128/256 in the next iPhone UNLESS the 128/256 models have other differentiators or the pricing changes to make the 128/256 models WAY more attractive. 32/128/256 won't do the trick either. The moment the 32 becomes the low end, people will gravitate to it for the next 24 months UNLESS you make the other models have additional features and included extras like mini-plug to lightning adapter, bluetooth headphones worth using, an external battery, more ram, a unique camera feature, greater clock speed, etc.

But it's the non-Plus models that desperately need a bigger battery. I hope battery life will be increased even more on these models.

Also, a single connector would generate 2 problems for apple to solve:
1. How to use the headphones while charging
2. Proprietary connector equals to a very limited choice of 3d party headphones ?

If the adapter is inexpensive, comes in matching colors, and is small to where attaching them to existing headphones isn't horrible, it's a non-issue. A bigger adapter that you stick on the end of the charger cable that passes through the audio can be a slightly more expensive option for luddites that don't just go with low power bluetooth already. The thought of using wired headphones anymore is absurd :)

Me wants! but knowing Apple, No way! They'll save 256gb option for 7S.
unlike you I care about what others want. I personally don't need or want wireless charging if I have a phone that last all day. However I am not going to bash others and try to convince them to NOT want it. Everyone has different use cases. My use case or yours might not fit others.

However you care only about yourself and what you want. I can't change that. If Apple can do something to make some of its customers happier while keep the others happy then I have ZERO issues with that.
That is pretty much the world we live in right now. If you don't agree with them they call you bigoted. It seems like their idea is the one that only matters and nothing else. Fanboyism are not bad until somebody starts putting others down instead of learning to live with each other. It's a sad world we live in and it's true and it's happening all over the place.

i like the sound of the improvements, but the loss of 1/8" jack is a dealbreaker for me. while i like the thought of someone like apogee producing a good quality lightning port DAC, i can't see myself using something like that on the go

All the rumors have been saying Apple will include a free lightning to 1/8", so who cares?

doubt the 4 inch iphone will have a new design nor will it have a A10. I think they will just shrink the 6s. However those images are probably fake. The camera is in the centre which is not like apple and the battery info and apple logo is upside down lol.
It is not upside down. That camera is Touch ID :D

I have to say, I like this design very much...

Every time Apple push people forward, there are the usual complaints. ADB, floppy, internal modem, optical drive... And yet the company continues to grow. I don't understand this fixation with 3.5mm Jack as something good. It's a terrible, limited connector.

Does reminds of digital cable as well. If there is an adapter than it is not as bad. I doubt there would ever be a right time to move past an old standard.

I will say that Apple as often moved too quickly when things were still in use. I wanted a blu-ray drive, I did not even start using floppes until Apple removed them (money, I hated the things)

These days it has been over two years since a disc was needed.

What a completely irrelevant answer. Where is the modern, improved electrical connection that would offer more functionality if upgraded?

What's the difference? The membranes in any headphones need to be powered by an analog electrical signal. Transferring that signal is a solved problem, and the 3.5 mm plug does the job perfectly.

My counterexample of the power plug was just a criticism of your rant about the age of the standard having anything to do with it. Your so called argument applies equally poorly to the power connector.

Yes. I'm not being sarcastic. It's really about weight in the end. Have you ever held a 6+ in your hand for 10 minutes or over your head in bed? It's not that light. If it was about 1-2mm thick and 1/3 current weight, then I would be happier. As it stands now, I never have a problem with battery life so why would I want it to be as thick or thicker? So I can get 3 days instead of 1 1/2 days of battery life?

Apple is about showing us the future and since we all know the future has nothing to do with clunky phones, why set standards so low? I expect a credit card size and weight phone in 5-10 years. We will never get to that if Apple doesn't push for faster, thinner and lighter at every release. Longer battery life will come with processor advances and is more than enough for most right now.

The weight makes sense, however it still needs to be strong. It can get away with thinner when in a case. Personally I would rather see a focus on something other than thinness.

Sorry but the 6s is just a few months old and it already feels like a brick: thick and heavy. Especially when compared to the 6.

If design matters, the iPhone should be *a lot* thinner and lighter.

Can you imagine a 6 Plus with the thickness of the 2007 model? Would be a joke.

How is it remotely thick? If it was the size of the 4S and that thin would that still be the case?

Unless I am not quite seeing a possible sarcastic tone in this comment?

HAven't read all the thread, but my guess would be the 'pro' devices (iPhone Plus and iPad Pro) will get 32/128/256 options and the 'regular' devices (iPhone and iPad Air) will retain 16/64/128. Might we even see the mini versions (4" phone and iPad Mini) downgraded to only have two storage sizes (16/64)?
If the iPad Pro gets a 256 GB option in the next 6 months I'd say this rumor is true.

Please let this mean base comes in at 32GB, at the very least. I
d also be happy to see 32, 128, 256 increments, but Apple's track record has me doubting that lol.

Whenever the competition (read Android phones) features something popular before it appears on an iPhone Apple plays stubborn and refuses to add it to their cash cow. IE: larger displays. Look how many years it took Apple before they finally caved in and offered a modern size display. The excuse makers will say it's because they've got an aluminum body, or offer some other "reason". But we know that Apple can do whatever they set their mind to. With a world class engineering group, the only thing holding Apple back is their ego.

Why exactly does a larger display on a phone make it modern exactly? It just makes it bigger. I'd say the main thing a person wants in a pocket computer is the ability to fit in their pockets. The larger phones now require bags to carry them around. I wouldn't exactly call that modern since laptops have been around for over 20 years.
