i like the sound of the improvements, but the loss of 1/8" jack is a dealbreaker for me. while i like the thought of someone like apogee producing a good quality lightning port DAC, i can't see myself using something like that on the go

The cost of upgrading to 128 GB (or 256GB) is too much of an investment for me.

I don't have that big of an issue with memory with the base model. Sure, I do delete some things occasionally that I haven't used in a while an do take advantage of iCloud for photos. I also use Apple Music to sync my iTunes so I don't have to keep the songs on my phone.

Of course this is a user-by-user scenario and is just my opinion.

I do agree that 16GB is too low for 2016 and 32GB should be the base. I'd be in hog heaven if that was the case and definitely more than enough for me.

If they make a Tb phone, I will buy that. 2Tb might be enough. My 6s+ 128 is already full.

It's not a phone any more. It's many people's main PC. Needs more of everything. More wireless charging, more waterproof, more durable, more battery, more speed, more space, more sound customization via global graphic EQ. Especially more better microphone.

What if they included a lightning to audio port adapter for you?

I use bluetooth headphones so the removal of the audio port isn't a big deal to me. However, if they ever did die and I didn't have an audio port (or the hypothetical adapter on hand,) I'd be SOL.

Gimmick is a strong word. I don't use it much...well at all now since I have a 6p. However it is useful in some cases such as:

1. Wireless charging phone dock in car - just get in your car and place it in the dock. My Lexus NX has it in the armrest. Step in and drop the phone in it and it charges.

2. At the office, the charging mat in your desk. When you get up to use the bathroom or for persons that have to leave their desk often, they dont have to keep unplugging and plugging in.

3. At home with wireless charging built into the bed side tables or coffee table. Just rest your phone on the table and it charges. By the way these furniture do exist.

4. My powerbank has qi built in, if I am at a bar or anywhere I would just place the powerbank on the table and put my phone on top.

Again, I don't use wireless charging much but having it there for the few times i would use it would be nice. Not a deal breaker for me though.

A good response, and I see your point - but it's still not wireless charging. When I have the phone in my pocket, or I'm using it at work and it's still receiving charge OTA, then it's wireless.

Valid point. I can't count how many people removed their PC (even laptop) from their house and rely solely on a tablet or iPhone.

With Apple TV, even with an iPhone you can get a decent multimedia experience mirroring your phone to your TV.

Guess what? a 32 gb iphone could make calls, text, gps, web browsing and access your file management app just as good. This is no excuse to have a 16gb model unless it is a budget phone.
It is a budget phone. And of course if would still do all of those things with double the capacity and double the power. You make no relevant point with your response though.

You will be amazed to hear that the Power Mac has a connector on it from 1970, and it's shockingly analog!
IEC_60320_C13.svg

And yes, I will complain also if Apple decides to roll their own and abandon IEC 60320.
What a completely irrelevant answer. Where is the modern, improved electrical connection that would offer more functionality if upgraded?

It's achieving just what is says, i.e. there's no cord between the charger and my phone. It's convenient in the car when you can eliminate the hassle with plugging and unplugging the charging cable. In addition, as my "nightstand" is actually a shelf almost an arm's length above my pillow, wireless charger is extra convenient compared to a wired one. I can just put my phone there and have it charge through the night (so the slower charging speed doesn't really matter). When my alarm goes off, I can just grab the phone with one hand and avoid all the hassle with the cable falling on my face etc.

How hard would it be to incorporate the Apple Watch's "wireless" charging into the iPhone? I think it'd be quite easy and doable.

But is this really wireless? no... It's simply removing the "hassle" of plugging a plug into your phone.

I used to have that Power Pad thing or whatever it's called.... that base that you plug into the wall and throw your phone onto it to charge (plus a big bulky case.) I used that for 3 months and realized it's not removing a hassle for me. I still have to take phone out of pocket, put it on the base, and be without my phone's usage, even worse than plugging it physically in.

Que?

For reference, here's storage configurations as they originally launched:

Code:
Year Min Storage Max Storage RAM
iPhone 2007 4 8 128 MB
iPhone 3G 2008 8 16 128 MB
iPhone 3GS 2009 16 32 256 MB
iPhone 4 2010 16 32 512 MB
iPhone 4S 2011 16 64 512 MB
iPhone 5 2012 16 64 1 GB
iPhone 5S 2013 16 64 1 GB
iPhone 6 2014 16 128 1 GB
iPhone 6S 2015 16 128 2 GB

So, RAM doubles every 2-3 years (not 4-5), an increase of the minimum storage is overdue, and an increase of the maximum storage is at least plausible.

I really do like the idea of a 256GB model. In fact I wanted one when the 6 was released, the issue is really dependant on the fact that I like to listen to direct CD rips in ALAC, so theres a massive compromise on space.

As for those people who would now take this opportunity to rant at me about not being able to hear the difference; my home entertainment system consists of Bowers and Wilkins C-800 Diamonds and Classé amplifiers and I also use B&Ws P7 headphones and I can assure you without a shadow of a doubt that you can indeed tell the difference between an iTunes mp3 @256kbps and an ALAC CD Rip @ 980kbps avg.

LOL thanks for the laugh. A $650 is a budget phone, good one. I need to buy you a drink...well probably not...seems like you have been drinking.

Ah, small world in your personal experience. Get 100 on contract - its a budget phone, just as the 5S they replaced. Cheapest, most reliable and well built tool for the job. Yes, we could get cheaper, but they'd be crappy, plastic rubbish that fall to pieces after a year - that is a false economy.

Your budget and experience != everyone's budget and experience,

Budget phone? The base model 6s costs at least three times as much as the ones I'd classify as budget phones.

i only use large dj / production headphones which wouldn't ever be bluetooth. i remember the days of the 3gs dongle thing for the headphones, i'd forever lose it, and it broke easily, so i never used that phone as an ipod for that reason... hopefully the 6c will still have the port anyway.

2016 (upcoming redesign):
iPhone 7/7 plus - 1080p and 1440p screens; waterproof; new build material; similar footprint but flatter, thinner and lighter; larger battery; 32GB, 64GB, 128GB; 2GB and 3GB ram. Because the redesign is focused on condensing the tech inside to be thinner and lighter, the marketing plug will be software orientated, the opening up of NFC for some new apple 'tap' sharing feature to work alongside airdrop, new levels of sharing and interacting, quick pairing to multiplayer iOS games, pairing to Apple TV (perhaps alongside an iPad Air 3 with NFC, Apple looking to go after the the PointOfSale market... iPad at the register, tap iPhone directly to iPad for Apple Pay Transaction)

2017:
iPhone 7s/7s Plus - super fast wireless charging, implemented in typical apple fashion, ready to use in popular locations; they'll have some fancy dock accessory (which of course, will not come in the box); dual lens camera system, 3D mapping, 3D video, perhaps alongside the release of a virtual reality accessory for interactive gaming. Of course being an 's' year it will have a major CPU and GPU boost

2018 (the following redesign):
iPhone 8/8 plus - first OLED iPhone; redesigned darker iOS (iOS 12) for better battery consumption, ala watchOS; edge to edge display; home button removed and touch ID integrated into the display; significantly reduced bezel, either much smaller phone or screen size increased; no headphone jack, switch to USB C charger which supports headphones (you then see macs ditch headphone jacks in favour of USB C... All MacBooks/Airs/Pros will be relatively port-less by now, perhaps 1, 2 or 3 USB C ports... the world will be much better adapted and ready to ditch headphone jacks and USB 3 ports, maybe not everyone, but Apple being Apple is going to push the world towards a single cord for all purposes on all devices)

Well obviously your classification and your personal requirements/judgement are all the matters, and woe betide anyone with their own personal use case or judgement on what constitutes 'budget'. You have hijacked my original point and are now arguing something that was never part of my original statement of opinion. It's a shame that Apple have done so badly by not listening to your opinion. No wonder they are doomed... Lol.

16Gb is a perfectly usable amount for many people.

I stand by that statement of opinion.

I want:

• Fast Charging and Wireless Charging
I may be wrong but you seem to be serious. Have you ever heard the adage that you have it faster, better, or cheaper (pick two)? Given that fast charging and wireless charging run counter to each other you can have one or the other but not both.

How is this any different than other industries?

An automobile company may offer a base-model for $16,000... but the one you really want is actually $20,000. The base-model is the one they sell to car rental and other fleets. Or extremely price-conscious customers.

Perhaps Apple should name the 16GB iPhone the XE model... and then the "real" 64GB iPhone is the GT model :D

Oh wow, that is good. Be careful on the roads...many crazy drivers as I bet you already know.

I've gotten hit by cars twice in five years and almost hit another 2-4. Always with people veering out on the wrong side.

Thank you for the concern, though. I've had people wish I get hit by cars before because I argued with them.

lol yes, get it on contract and pay monthly....you do know you don't end up paying only $100 for the phone right? Seems like you didn't. Second, carriers are moving away from contract devices. 3rd, not every country has this.

You can make any excuse and say why a $650 phone is a budget phone. The MAJORITY will say it is not. How can a phone be a budget phone when it is one of the most expensive in the industry.

Heck I guess a bugatti is a budget car...my bad. It is the cheapest, most reliable and well built car for driving.

"but they'd be crappy, plastic rubbish that fall to pieces after a year "
Apple bias at its finest. Nokia 3310 will far outlast any model iphone...guess what!? It is made out of plastic! Can you believe that? I cant either! Because I was told plastic is rubbish and falls to pieces after a year.

Exactly.

And for everyone else... the iPhone starts at $750

anybody has yet to answer me when I hit them with this question. If you have no shares, stake or dont own Apple. Why are you defending a 16gb version? We are both consumers of their products, shouldn't we both want more from them? A 32gb can do everything the 16gb can do. So what reason as a CONSUMER is there to defend Apple?

Everyone that defends it keeps saying 16gb is useful. So does that mean 32gb is not as useful? I am completely lost at this logic as a consumer.
