I bet the 256GB iPhone 7 plus will be so expensive. However I'll have to close my eyes and buy it. I need that space. I mean £789 seemed expensive for the 6+/6S + but I bit the bullet on the 6+ and when it came to the 6S+ it didn't seem that expensive.

It takes for-freaking-ever to sync a 128GB device right now if a restore from backup is needed. I shudder to imagine how long it would take to sync a 256GB device if they don't increase the transfer rate between the device and iTunes.

If this is true, then hopefully they do something with the lighting port and cable too, and if they will, it lends weight to rumours of a new design of the Lightning port that incorporates audio as well ... Maybe a Lightning to USB 3.0 cable to go along with that? That would be nice.

iPad Pro is USB 3 so I guess it's in the pipeline. I'm actually shocked that it's not USB3 already - I totally expected when they made the move to lightning it'd be 3.0 from the start.

Why not? They have the thickens they have currently due to technology limitation and thinner is the way to go (and will go) as the technology advances, like it or not. I for one am not a fan of carrying bulk in my pockets. People who lead companies like Apple are usually not as short sighted as some consumers who buy their products (thanks god for that) If it was for the consumer, we would still be using phones as big as walkie talkie.

They can, it will likely look cool and all. However it's not like it's currently too think. At some point they will be doing it just for the sake of it. If it was as thin as a credit card it would be hard to hold *based on current phones that are already awkward to hold without a case*

Also don't want it to break too easily. One aspect could be such a thin phone with a case or extra battery. That adds quite a bulk on any phone currently.

Oddly enough I'm more likely to want a 4k screen then worry about it being thinner.

So, the rumour is increased storage and increased battery, so now everyone is moaning about the (rumoured) loss of the headphone socket. Apple really can't win, can they?

They can! By increasing the battery life, increasing the storage and keeping the headphone socket. Chill out everyone, the loss of the 3.5 mm socket is just a rumor. I will save my anger towards Apple for when they actually unveil such a bizarre device as an iPhone without a headphone socket.

I'm going to agree with you on the points that most do NOT own a bt set of headphones & that they have rotten audio quality, but quibble with you over then calling them "premium", lol. I will NEVER own bt headphones because I ummmm, what's the word?? Oh yeah... ENJOY music. I'd go convert all my mp3s from 320kbps down to 16kbps or stab myself in the ears if I wanted a worse audio experience... & it would be free!!
The people using headphones based on Bluetooth are suckerfish chumps that know NOTHING about music & only value the idea of someone noticing they don't have wires... which I guess makes them feel cool.

Or maybe we just enjoy running without having wires bounce against us every step, or earbuds popping out every five feet. I just went for a run this morning using nothing but my Apple Watch and Sony wireless headphones and had a rather nice time.

The iPhone 7 could be the best phone on the market in 2016. But I still wont buy it if it doesn't include a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, regardless whether or not the lightning port can give higher quality audio.
If they do, Apple will surely make an adapter that will cost you more but hey that's Apple right?

In Europe if the Iphone 7 comes with a 256GB storage will cost 1200€. A price of a Macbook. Jesus!!!

All i want is a normal price for the latest version, not cheaper phone with last years tech. If Google can do this with Nexus 5x (€399\16GB, €499\32GB), Apple can do the same.

Even if it includes a small lightning to headphone jack adapter? How can they not, given that there's no audiophile grade headphones with a lightning connector.

The hope is that Apple will not change the prices, but finally pass on the savings that currently the retail price of flash is just 30 cents/GB. So 256GB should cost Apple significantly less than $99 TOTAL, and they charge $200 for that upgrade, which is above their 40% target margin. This is similar to when they changed the top end from 64GB to 128GB without upping the price.

Apple has always played Moore's Law this way: the price of things NEVER changes, but they increase what you get for that price.

16GB iPhone 6 = $649
64GB iPhone 6 = $749

16GB model outsells the 64GB 5:1

2016...

16GB model = $649
64GB model = $749
128GB model = $849
256GB model = $949 or high estimate $1049

Which one do you think will sell the most? 16GB! Because people see $100 cheaper > any memory size more.

Apple will never ditch 16GB. It's like their Honda civic model of iPhone.

More like their Honda Fit model...

I digress & will dial back the "audio snob", lol.
I certainly do agree that in your case (exercise), the product makes sense.
I notice however that you are NOT calling for all people to abandon traditional cord based headphones in favor of bt, simply because you have a pair... it is towards those with that type of a mindset that my post was pointed.
I'm honestly both glad that you enjoy your earbuds & envious that you are starting off your new year on the right foot (exercising)!! Congrats. :0)
Now... to stress a further point: I am actually excited about the rumored iPhone 7 form factor! I picked up an iPod Touch lately & thought "dear God, this is svelte! I love it... I hope we get this in an iPhone!" I don't mind letting a small adapter now live permanently affixed to my Sennheiser Momentum on-ears (my current go to headphone). Not a big deal. I am NOT complaining about losing the 3.5mm jack. I couldn't care one whit! I love progress & applaud Apple for being 1st to ditch the floppy & the optical. I will say that, if in the future I may be shopping for a set of cans with a new plug type... I'd HIGHLY prefer if it is an industry standard, such as USB-C & not an Apple standard, such as Lightning.

I am happy with the 128 GB option that exists...heck, I might even consider the 64 GB option for the iPhone 7 Plus. I am now using Apple Music and as a result, I don't have to store any music on my device. I don't really store very many videos on there because I have a 64 GB iPad which is much more satisfying for consuming video than the iPhone (for when I am on a plane or otherwise unable to connect to a WiFi network). The only reason I need the storage is for the apps I have (and I have a lot) but with the exception of a few big ones, my apps don't take up a ton of space. My 128 GB iPhone 6s Plus has like 75 GB of free space. So at least for me, the 256 GB option is not necessary.

My hands are a tad too small for the 4.7 inch right now to reach all 4 corners of the screen. If they could reduce the footprint slightly ...make it even easier to hold and reduce the bezel like so may others say ..... ahhh... wtf.....just dreaming.

ck it better be 256. seeing as how a 128GB Micro SD card exists!

If you meant this as a joke... apologies.
If not... you should bone up on your storage knowledge!
For example: comparing an sd card to an SSD hard drive is ALMOST as ridiculous as comparing an external hard drive to RAM or something of that ilk.
I suppose it's actually more like saying "oh you have a 1tb hard drive?? Well, I have MUCH more space than that over here on my spindle of blank Blu-Ray disks!"
For edification: an sd card is a slow "storage only" medium, very highly susceptible to errors even compared to a standard hard drive, and especially compared to the highly regarded & highly reliable SSD drives. They top out in the high end around 30mb/second. Whereas, SSDs typically operate in the 500-550mb/second & are about as bulletproof as a storage medium that is currently available.

iPhone 7 will definitely come with 16GB of storage and 2GB ram. Don't keep your hopes up. Apple increases RAM every 4-5 years, so I don't expect they will increase it again this year.

RAM increase every 4-5 years?

2007, original iPhone - 128MB
2009, iPhone 3GS - 256MB
2010, iPhone 4 - 512MB
2012, iPhone 5 - 1GB
2015, iPhone 6s - 2GB

Still, judging by previous record, Apple will increase the RAM in 2018.

Remember
iPhone 5: 1gb
iPhone 5s: 1gb
iPhone 6: 1gb

It took 3 years to increase, so i was off by only 1 year. 2gb is still pitiful in Todays standards. And 3gb will be pitiful when Apple increases it in 2018. Remember today's Apple is all about shareholder value and maximizing profits. If it were for Tim he would have kept 1gb for another 2 years, and i bet it took months for engineers to persuade Tim to increase it to 2gb

That whole no 3.5mm headphone jack REALLY grinds my gears.

Why? Let it go. Its time to move on. Personally I would like Apple to put a good amount of time and energy into wireless earbuds that are actually good. Wires are dumb.

I bet you don't buy that new iMac without an ADB port either. ;^D

I may be wrong but you seem to be serious. Have you ever heard the adage that you have it faster, better, or cheaper (pick two)? Given that fast charging and wireless charging run counter to each other you can have one or the other but not both.

?
Of course you can have both. For starters, the Motorola Turbo 2 has wireless charging and comes with a TurboPower charger (13 hours battery time in 15 minutes). Neither of those features may be important to you, but they certainly exist.

Oh wow, it literally has the exact same capacity as a single 18650 battery...in 2016, how exciting.

Apple will never ditch 16GB. It's like their Honda civic model of iPhone.

Yea, but Honda doesn't limit the size of the gas tank just to save money. You get to a point where the distance you're able to drive starts inhibiting your experience and taking away from the other features of the car.

You can't say they'll "never" ditch it. Once it's feasible to do so, they'll increase, just like they did with the mid tier, from 32 to 64.

No, because even that computer still has a headphone jack...

We're talking about replacing something which has been an industry standard for decades. Something which most people still use regularly. Something which phone manufacturers already tried to replace, back when it was all about making phones as small as possible, and they failed.

What's more is that with the Mac they have already transitioned the major peripherals to BT. In contrast, unless you count Beats, Apple headphones are still wired.

If anyone can replace it, Apple can. If the headphone jack is the single thing that's preventing them from working toward a thinner, more weather-sealed (less holes) device, they're going to remove it.

This practice of adding more features to the effing oversize plus size phone is getting annoying. The video stabilization was bad enough, but if they limit upper tier storage to the shoe box lid size phone I'll be disappointed.

Apple always limits features to the larger, more expensive machines.

Apple won't get rid of the piss poor 16 GB.

iPhone 7 pricing:
16GB model = $749
64GB model = $849
128GB model = $949
256GB model = $1049

They'll get rid of it sooner or later.
