The iPhone 7 could be the best phone on the market in 2016. But I still wont buy it if it doesn't include a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, regardless whether or not the lightning port can give higher quality audio.
Why?
Do you not buy macs anymore because they dont have an optical drive?
Seriously...
Who doesnt use a bluetooth headset?
3.5 mm are prone to break off in the port anyway...

Apple will never ditch 16GB. It's like their Honda civic model of iPhone.
Except a Civic can drive farther on the same size gas tank compared to almost any luxury car. A 16 GB iPhone runs out of storage for photos and now 4K video 4x faster than a 64 GB iPhone.

I can't even think of a phone car comparison because to me Toyotas are the best cars you can buy at any price. The luxury cars, especially the ones from Germany, have the worst reliability rates.

Apple just this last summer had a promotion giving away new Beats headphones with 3.5 mm headphone jacks when buying a new Mac. You could pay extra for wireless, but wired were the default. They sell them, too. A lot of them. And the earbuds come included with every iPhone and iPod ever sold. Apple's made bluetooth headsets before, but they never took off. Even Apple's more expensive in-ear earbuds use 3.5 mm jack.

I'm not saying they won't use only Lightning and Bluetooth for audio. But consider the MacBook, which only has the USB-C port and a 3.5 mm audio jack. They got rid of almost every port they could and still kept the 3.5 mm jack, even though the idea of that product is that everything is supposed to be wireless.

Wireless charging has been a rumor reported to be included on "the next iPhone" here for more than 4 years. I wouldn't count on it any time soon.

Though it would be funny because it would have the people here soooooo mad that all of their chargers were no longer useful. They'd cry so much and complain about it.
i wish they did the apple watch has wireless charging

I may be wrong but you seem to be serious. Have you ever heard the adage that you have it faster, better, or cheaper (pick two)? Given that fast charging and wireless charging run counter to each other you can have one or the other but not both.

Don't need to be condescending. I'm well aware of their pros and cons. I want the option to fast charge when I need too and I want to be able to toss my iPhone on a pad and it charges rather than searching for a cable in the middle of night. But please feel free to be the defense force instead of actually objectively looking at possible features.

Whenever the competition (read Android phones) features something popular before it appears on an iPhone Apple plays stubborn and refuses to add it to their cash cow. IE: larger displays. Look how many years it took Apple before they finally caved in and offered a modern size display. The excuse makers will say it's because they've got an aluminum body, or offer some other "reason". But we know that Apple can do whatever they set their mind to. With a world class engineering group, the only thing holding Apple back is their ego.
apple always late for everything android way ahead

I don't use bluetooth when flying as I use my wired noise cancelling headphones. Additionally, for my 10-13hr flights, those bluetooth will give out in no time.

The weight makes sense, however it still needs to be strong. It can get away with thinner when in a case. Personally I would rather see a focus on something other than thinness.

How is it remotely thick? If it was the size of the 4S and that thin would that still be the case?

Unless I am not quite seeing a possible sarcastic tone in this comment?
It is thick and heavy for such a large device when compared to the 6 and other phones.

How does it affect design? I can see that it may affect software.
You have to design a way to remove the storage in a user friendly manner. This is something extra. The dream of Apple is for the device to be one solid piece with no seams. Adding a second 'sim tray' doesn't align with those ambitions.

How thin do they want phones to be? Thin as a credit card?

Why not? They have the thickens they have currently due to technology limitation and thinner is the way to go (and will go) as the technology advances, like it or not. I for one am not a fan of carrying bulk in my pockets. People who lead companies like Apple are usually not as short sighted as some consumers who buy their products (thanks god for that) If it was for the consumer, we would still be using phones as big as walkie talkie.

you can add the micro sd card in the same tray that the sim card goes. Hence only one "sim tray". I am not petitioning for micro sd though. I know it will never happen. Was just correcting you that it wouldn't have to affect design on the exterior.

I hope they keep the same thickness and maybe with the space they are able to save to make the battery bigger. If its thinner and has about the same battery life then I am keeping my iphone 6. Theres no need to go even thinner than it already is. More people are worried about battery life than how thin/light their phone already is.

You really aren't from around here, are you?

Please leave the 3.5mm headphone jack alone. Think of all the people with expensive beats headphones who won't be able to use them all of a sudden.

Maybe apple could do this with their line up after the iPhone 7
iPhone 6C 4" version - 16GB
iPhone 6S & 6S Plus - 16GB & 32GB Limited colour options (Space Grey and Silver)
iPhone 7 & 7 Plus - 64GB, 128GB, 256GB

You don't really need a removable MicroSD card. The iPhone will already show up on your computer as removable drive and you can access all your photos and video files from there.

If people would just hook up their iPhone to their computer... and offload their thousands of photos to their computer... a lot of these "problems" would be solved. (and it's the first step to making a proper backup)

I dump my iPhone photos and videos quite often. I simply drag and drop... and I already have a backup scheme in place. Granted... I'm an experienced computer user and a photo/video professional... but it's not that difficult once you learn how.

It pains me to see people with their iPhones crammed full of photos shouting "I'm out of space!"

Well... that's what happens when you take thousands of photos and videos and let them pile up on the device!

Below is what it looks like in Windows... and I'd assume it works the same on a Mac. And doesn't iPhoto and Apple Photos offer a "import and remove from device" option? I think other software does this.

Here's the deal... people are generating thousands of files a year. But those files can't (nor shouldn't) remain on the device forever.

Even if the iPhone had a MicroSD card slot... people would still need to learn what to DO with those files.

Just looking at the range of headphones sold at airports and the vast majority of people on the street I can assume Most people still don't use Bluetooth headsets.

not everyone is the same. Although I would agree pics and videos may take up majority of storage for many persons. Apps and cached data also takes up majority for many users.

For me, currently I have 1.6 GB in pics and videos, 10.4 GB in apps (Google Play being the largest at 2.81 GB since I download music from it, Vrse and asphalt 8 accounts for another 2.2GB) and 2.62 in cached data. Just adding my apps and cached data would fill up 16 GB. When you think about how large many apps are now, just adding a few games or downloading some music from Google Play, or downloading offline maps from Google Maps (400mb for a relatively small geographic area)....memory is done in no time.

Of course.

I was just recalling all the times I had to help people free up space on their phones. (I'm the tech guy)

It's usually thousands of photos going back for years... and no plan of what to DO with those photos :)

Hell... one friend of mine had some X-Men movie on her iPhone at over 4GB. I asked "Did you watch this yet?"

And she replied "How did that get on my phone?" I assume she bought it for her son to watch on the AppleTV. But it was taking up quite a lot of space on her phone and she had no idea. Michael to the rescue!

The truth is... most people don't understand any of this stuff. Even Apple's incessant hand-holding still confuses people.

I will only buy the lowest storages capacities available. I just cannot give in giving apple another 100$ or more for more storage. It sucks but I manage it. I am starting to get sick of doing that though, and will probably make the switch if the next iphone doesn't come with 32 standard. Nearly 700$ with tax for a 16gb is starting to irritate me honestly.

They won't change the 64, and 128 in this iteration. They realize the need for more storage, but until the 128 sales numbers go up they won't offer an even larger option.

Now if the next phone removes the headphone jack and is still 16, then we have a problem. No more charging while listening to music, being able to plug into others vehicles who only have 3.5, having to get new headphones, using an adapter, all for what benefit?

Thats what I have trouble figuring out, and the reason I don't think it will happen. There is not a benefit in removing the 3.5. They say for waterproofing, but there are still buttons, speakers, and lightning ports exposed. So why not waterproof the 3.5 as well?
