The data is from those sales-tracking firms.. you can also look up various analysts mix projections too if you wanted. You jumped context from 16GB to 32GB without prompting, 11.5GB useable is the useable space "now", the internal only preview version apple are playing with now I'm told is slightly bigger, so 11GB useable on the 16GB is not BS and I'm 99% sure you would not be so impolite and arrogant face to face, so why do it on a forum? it's just not needed and its not BS.

64GB for base is not absurd, firstly 64GB of NAND is now costing less than 16GB was at the launch of the 5.
Flash storage devices have grown from 64GB to 256GB as standard in some configs and by the same measure in the same time frame the MBAs RAM has gone from 2GB RAM 8GB as standard now.

Regardless of the fact everything else has grown by that same factor, i don't believe apple will go with 64GB. They will go with 32GB i'd wager, but that's because they are more bothered about "profit" than the customer and doing the right thing.
Ah, I'd interpreted your comment as saying 11 GB usable space on a 32 GB phone. My apologies. As for a 64 GB base, that is rather absurd. Let's assume that 64 GB costs less now than 16 a couple of years ago - 32 costs less, I imagine. Now, to you the difference in price between 32 and 64 may be insignificant, but at the volume that Apple sells, it is not. Also, I'm not sure why you think Apple didn't care about profit at one point. Even under Jobs the 16 GB base didn't budge - even on the 5s and it was an issue then too. Again, given that the last time a 32 GB model was sold (with a 64 GB an option) that the 32 GB model was the most popular by far, it is the right choice for a base model. No company, even Apple, has ever built a device to have the base model be the most popular option (if there are options, that is).

Um, why? I don't even fill up 32 GB, and I highly doubt most people use up anywhere close to 64 GB. 32 GB is perfectly fine imo.

Most people don't store a large number of pics on their device FYI. As for no reason not to put in the 64GB, the cost isn't negligible at the volume they have. 32 GB is enough for the majority of the population

I do not even fill up my 16GB. This is a severe over-reaction. I have quite a bit of music and pictures on my phone too.

32GB is nice, and I am all for that. I just think people are severely over-reacting regarding the 16GB version. It works fine for me and my family.....

Well I have about 26GB left off my 128GB 6S plus so wether it's 16GB Or 32GB Doesn't matter to me as I will always need 128GB on an iPhone but on my s7 edge 32GB is enough due to SD card storage.

the problem with apple devices is that there are no micro SD card supported, which make the small storage more problematic
We've been over this for years now - micro sd provides a terrible experience for the end user compared to the standard flash storage on the iPhone; this is shown by an increasing number of Android smartphone manufacturers abandoning microSD

1-only a few android devices have abondoned the micro SD support like samsung with the galaxy s6 but they retracted with the Galaxy s7 which have a micro SD slot

2-the last version of android (android 6) even offers an option to merge the internal memory with the SDcard

3-If you move only media files like pictures and videos than you don't risk to make your phone slower
Yep all valid points indeed.

1. microSD is slowly being abandoned by Android manufacturers
2. Very few people have Android 6 and said merging doesn't really increase speed
3. Yes it does if you frequently need to access it

Hmm mm the biggest Android OEM just brought back the SD card to all of its flagship phones. The biggest selling flagship phones in 2016 all have a SD card.

I agree adoptable storage is not ready for prime time. Too many variables like slower versus faster SD cards. Then what happens if you remove the card.

Most SD cards on the market now are fast enough to handle loading pictures and videos and music.
